RAISE YOUR HAND FOR MENTAL HEALTH GRANTS Not-for-profit organisations in the Isaac region with projects and programs targeting mental health awareness and support are being encouraged to raise their hands for assistance from the Isaac Regional Charity Fund.

Mayor Anne Baker said organisations were invited to apply for the Charity Fund’s 2019 round of grants to assist with the delivery of worthwhile charitable projects which engaged with residents in the mental health space.

Clermont Show 2019 will move from celebrating the past 150 years to this year, celebrating and looking to the future of our region’s strong and diverse rural economy.

In an interesting new approach to “what’s good about Clermont”, a forum to highlight the dynamic new business entrepreneurs of our region will blend with the collection of displays, sideshows, giant pumpkins and tomatoes, cattle, horses, dogs, goats, machinery, pavilions full of local produce and all things rural. It is this diversity that makes Clermont Show one of the top rural exhibitions in Australia!

The forum, co-hosted by Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3), Belyando Enterprise Network Inc (BENI) and Clermont Community Business Group (CCBG) has been developed to align with Small Business Week.

Receiving funding from QLD Government Department of Education, Small Business and Training and the Local Buying Foundation, the forum will begin after the Grand Parade on Wednesday, people’s day, as a closing event to what’s shaping up to be another spectacular show.

The organising committee is currently seeking budding entrepreneurs who have recently started, expanded or are planning to start a new business in our region.

Prue Lonergan, Business Support and Facilitation Officer for GW3 outlined the opportunity for new businesses to gain positive exposure.

“Small business events are being coordinated across the Isaac Region for small business week, in conjunction with Isaac Regional Council.

“The Clermont Show event will be an excellent opportunity for both new start-ups and established business teams to come together to celebrate and discuss opportunities to develop connections and the potential of our region.

“We are already aware of many ideas that Clermont people are developing into new businesses. If you would like to present ‘what you are doing’ to a wider client base, this will be the perfect opportunity.”

A keynote speaker is being finalised.

All businesses will be given an opportunity to outline their vision, and some time will be spent discussing and developing the business start-ups through entrepreneurship and innovation.

A panel will then field questions from the audience, to help solve some of the mysteries that define successful business ventures. There will then be plenty of time for networking and exploring what you can provide for potential clients.

ATTENTION - HELP RESTOCK DEVASTATED GRAZIERS GRANTS

contributed by Bill Faint After contacting an organiser of the ‘Re-stocking the North West’, who are helping graziers devastated by the flooding earlier this year, Ross and I have decided to donate some cattle to their cause.

This re-stocking is aimed at the smaller producers who have lost 80 to 100 percent of their stock.

We currently have 30 head donated and would love to increase this number to help those affected.

PUBLIC NOTICES RESTORATION OF COOMBURRAGEE HUT - CLERMONT HISTORICAL CENTRE Isaac Regional Council advises residents and visitors that the Coomburragee Hut currently located at the entrance of Clermont Historical Centre, Gregory Highway will undergo a restoration project.

The project will include dismantling and rebuilding the hut at a different location at the centre.

The project began on: Monday April 15 Major works to remove the slab hut’s roof using a crane from: Monday April 29 to Tuesday April 30

On Monday April 29, the work camp access road will be closed.

During these two days the centre’s access road will be closed.

As Council will be rebuilding the hut as historically accurate as possible a date of completion has not been set.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents and visitors for their patience during this time.

GET IN NOW BEFORE DISCOUNT ENDS Isaac Regional Council would like to remind residents there is two weeks left to take advantage of the rates discount period.

Ratepayers who make prompt payment on or before 1 May will receive a 10 per cent discount on general rates.

Council rates and charges that remain unpaid after 1 May will incur 11 per cent interest per annum, compounded daily.

Some financial institutions take up to three days to process electronic payments.

Please check with financial institution to ensure your payment is received by Council in time to secure discount.

Ratepayers who have encountered delays with the postal service in their area can register their email address with Council for an additional rates notice to be issued electronically.

If you have not received your rates notice please contact Council.

Ratepayers can register their details and speak to Council’s Rates Team by phoning 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227) or emailing records@isaac.qld.gov.au between 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

SHOWGROUND HIRE FOR CONVOY APPROVED WITH STRICT CONDITIONS Following a comprehensive assessment process, Council has approved an application by the Bob Brown Foundation to hire Clermont’s showground to accommodate a stopover for its Stop Adani Convoy, subject to a range of stringent conditions.

Chief Executive Officer Gary Stevenson PSM said Council understood and appreciated that members of the Clermont and wider Isaac community may have strong feelings about this decision, given the intent of the convoy did not reflect prevailing community sentiment.

“However, the inevitable reality of the situation is that this convoy was and still is coming to Clermont regardless of an approval to use the local showgrounds or otherwise,” he said.

“For Council, this presented the significant question of how to effectively manage an influx of 500 to 800 people into Clermont with a view to minimising impact and disruption.

“We have absolutely sought to protect the interests of the local community throughout this process.

“Council concluded that the Clermont Showgrounds was the most suitable venue to accommodate convoy participants and this is certainly a more appropriate outcome than leaving people to set up camp anywhere.

“It is also the most appropriate site based on advice from the Queensland Police Service in relation to managing a large gathering of this scale.”

As part of the application process, Mr Stevenson said Council had engaged in detailed discussions with convoy organisers regards their event to ensure it was within the capacity of the showgrounds.

“All applications to hire Council facilities are considered on their merits with consideration given to site capability, suitability of amenities, potential risks and impacts,” he said.

“The outcome of this process is that significant conditioning, consistent with requirements placed on any major event, has been imposed on their approval to use the showground.

“This includes a limit of 500 campers onsite overnight and 800 participants in total, a substantial bond to ensure any potential impacts to the site from such an event can be addressed at no cost to ratepayers, and specific provisions for public safety.”

In addition, Mr Stevenson said Council had been provided with assurances by the Bob Brown Foundation that the convoy was to be a peaceful and lawful gathering related only to its opposition to Adani’s project and not vegan protest issues.

“We have sought this undertaking and clarity of intent in response to community concern about the invasive nature of recent vegan activism in rural areas and past disruptive actions by anti-Adani protestors in areas such as Bowen,” he said.

Mr Stevenson said participants in the national convoy would arrive in Clermont on the afternoon of 27 April and depart on the morning of 29 April.

“We will be monitoring the activities of the convoy as it heads our way through communities including Rockhampton, Mackay and Airlie Beach and will continue to liaise with the organisers, police and local stakeholders,” he said.

“Queensland Police Service have received and approved a Notice of Intent for convoy participants to undertake peaceful assembly in the Clermont area. Council cannot reasonably refuse such a request without having the matter considered before a magistrate.

“As a Council we need to take a measured and reasonable position, which includes acknowledging the right to peaceful assembly and protest.”

A request by convoy organisers to utilise Nebo’s showground as a rest stop was declined

by Council as the venue was booked for a regional gymkhana, Mr Stevenson said.

RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Our Club hosted the State Titles for Gallery Rifle last week end. There were some good scores produced.

We had shooters from Townsville, Ipswich and Tasmania, as well as our local members. We showed our visitors some good country hospitality, and an enjoyable time was had by all.

There is no shoot planned this week end, being Easter, but some members will be out practicing for the ANZAC shoot being held in Sarina the following week end and also the Combined Services State Championships being held on the May Day long weekend. Check the Facebook page for day and times.

Winners were Belyando Produce, Beales IGA were second and Clermont Motel came in third.

A great day was had by everyone.

On Sunday the 3rd monthly medal was played.

Ladies winner was Sandy Rieck, runner up Rhonda Bleakley.
