HONOUR THE ANZAC’S SPIRIT IN THE ISAAC REGION Standing shoulder-to-shoulder from the coast to the outback, Isaac residents will honour the nation’s most revered commemorative services this month.
This year marks the centenary of the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux. Throughout early April, in 1918, Australian units helped defend Villers-Bretonneux from this onslaught, but at dawn on the 24 the Germans attacked and captured the town.
Residents are encouraged to attend dawn and morning services across nine towns in Isaac for Anzac Day services on Wednesday, April 25.
Leading the British counter attack, the Australian 13 and 15 Brigades successfully cleared it of Germans on April 25.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker, who will be attending the dawn service in Moranbah and the morning service in Dysart, said the Isaac region will pay tribute to the sacrifices of diggers past and present.
This year, services will commemorate this action which effectively ended the German offensive launched a month prior and also marking the 103rd anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli.
“We will remember the tenacity, resilience and heroism our soldiers have done for us,” Mayor Baker said. “We will honour the strong sense of solidarity, sentiment and pride as we come together to remember the Anzacs and all those who fought for our country. “I encourage residents in the Isaac region to come together, not to glorify war, but to acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who contributed so much in shaping the identity of this proud nation, and those who continue to serve.”
