Make every drop count during National Water Week As drought season approaches Isaac Regional Council is reminding residents to make every drop count. during Water Week.

In support of this CEO Rod Ferguson said water conservation is a whole-of-community responsibility and something that we all need to be mindful of, particularly those living in regional areas.

“Being aware of water consumption is a nationwide priority and in a region such as ours with declared drought areas and water restrictions in place, the need to conserve is even higher,” he said.

“The Australian Water Association’s theme for this year is Innovation, and this is a timely reminder to think about ways to capture and manage water during wetter months so we are better prepared when it’s dry.”

“I encourage everyone to support this important national initiative, and help conserve the natural resource we so heavily depend on.”

Council would also like to remind residents to be aware of the designated watering days and hours for their town. Don’t wait until it’s too late Bushfires, storms and floods can happen quickly and if you’re not ready, their impacts can be devastating.

This week is Get Ready Week and Isaac Regional Council is strongly encouraging residents and businesses to take the time to prepare their disaster emergency plan and kit.

Mayor Anne Baker, Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, said with bushfires ablaze in Queensland and cyclone season upon us, don’t wait until it’s too late.

“Disaster events are indiscriminate,” she said “We’ve had back-to-back high fire warnings and dry and hot conditions are settling in.”

“We’re all concerned and residents should not be complacent.”

“Get Ready Week is the perfect time to get your emergency and evacuation plans in order. And that includes for your pets.”

“By preparing ourselves before a situation arises, we build our personal and community resilience.”

“Everything you need to know to prepare is on the Get Ready Queensland website getready.qld.gov.au.”

Moving into summer months, Council is advising residents to clean gutters, remove dry leaf matter and debris from around the house and ensure loose outdoor items can be easily stowed away in the event of high winds.

Residents can regularly check weather warnings and updates at www.bom.gov.au or www.disaster.qld.gov.au.

“For local weather warnings or during a disaster event, Isaac residents can also monitor Council’s Facebook Page or website for information,” said Mayor Baker.

Fuzzbook contributed by Sarge Now a lot of people might say I’m getting on a bit and have missed a couple of episodes of fuzzbook for the township, but hey it just means more to tell! So sorry I haven’t kept everyone on the ball concerning recent happenings but here goes.

Good news straight from the press heard during the weekend about a certain dapper gentleman that is soon to be a father.

With his parents just recently marrying off their daughter I wander if they can cope? Anyway let’s hope he is a good role model and not the Brainiac of the week winner he once was.

The last few weeks has seen a couple of more incidents of Ice being located in Clermont. For those of you that are unaware this is an insidious drug that can cause all sorts of problems for communities, families and people alike. It is essentially the same drug as speed or ecstasy but just a different form and looks like bits of ice. It is highly addictive and people are using it in preference of marijuana or other recreational drugs.

If you see any signs of ice, not the frozen water type, then give me a ring at the station or ring Crime stoppers.

Enough gossip down to business. People are still speeding on the highways and I don’t know any real remedy to fix it.

We seem to right out hundreds upon hundreds of fines every year but nothing seems to work. Thankfully not a lot of locals getting caught same to with drink driving.

We need to, as a community, stop this before it gets a stronghold in the town. Tell-tale signs of users are they look gaunt, sores starting up on their face and they generally look haggard and dishevelled. This drug takes over their lives so watch out if any kids are neglected and so forth. Australia is a target market for the mainly Chinese based manufacturers where ice is produced for about $5000 a kilo but resells in Australia for millions of dollars.

Good news for the district with Carmichael Coal being reapproved but there are protest groups to the project. If anyone hears of any such protest activity I would be obliged if you could inform the police station as small protests can often turn nasty and then community members can get hurt or police resources and other emergency services may have to be deployed away from the town leaving townsfolk vulnerable.

Anyway if it does create jobs and so forth it will be good for the town if some of the people struggling to find work get on board.

A few good community events during the past few weekends of which the highlight of course was the High School formal.

Every year my adopted school year 12s turn out in their finery much to the joy and amazement of the local community. It just goes to show our high school is top notch and is putting out the right kids every year. That being said the day after the formal after party, not so good. One young chap was seen literally hacking up a toe nail in one garden but he explained it as something he may of ate.

Like I said great kids and to think when I started here they were all in grade two.

Some action on Saturday night just gone. Grinders was open for the first time in a while and it was good to see everyone having a good time and keeping the festivities going. One local football player however apparently also must have ate something a bit crook as he was apparently very sick in the toilets of another hotel. Not to be outdone he wandered to another hotel and was seen a short time later leaving with a rather nice looking girl. Don’t know why, might have been a ‘should have gone to specksavers’ moment for her. The part I find the funniest is the people I used to have to ‘deal with on regular occasions’ are now parents and apparently don’t go out too much anymore and can’t handle it.

The courtesy buses are doing a great job and if you do get caught it’s your own fault. We tell the Magistrate at court that there are courtesy buses so watch out for a lecture from him on the day.

Finally bike helmets. The fine is now well over $100 for not wearing a helmet. You have been warned. You get caught, no moaning and groaning, cop it sweet and learn from it.

Kids if I catch you, your parents will have to come and get your bikes from the station and you get to be lectured by me in front of them. Fun hey!

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these sessions are a good way to connect with parents and young children.

Literacy section expands The Clermont Library’s Literacy Section has expanded with the addition of many new and interesting books. The Literacy Section helps children to expand their reading skills and gain more independence in their reading. Yoga A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. There are many benefits of Yoga, this class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation.

Bookings for Yoga are essential. $15 for casuals. $6 for children up to 14 years.

Power Yoga is not suitable for children under 10 years of age.

Pilates- Level 1 Matwork 45 mins learn the fundamentals of pilates in a low impact class for good posture, strength for pelvic floor, core and general toning.

Mats required.

Pregnancy Pilates A low impact pilates class which focuses on pelvic floor, posture and general strength and well being for pregnant ladies who have been cleared to exercise during their pregnancy.

SPIN/Revolution Great music and a fantastic calorie burning hour of indoor cycling. You’ll learn correct technique for improved performance and have fun cycling.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane.

While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas.

Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Boot camp Boot camp is a type of outdoor group class that mixes your traditional calisthenic and body weight exercise with interval and strength training.

Our boot camp incorporates; tyre flipping and throwing, battle rope work, kettlebell, fence climbing and much more! It is a work at your own pace class, designed to be challenging whilst also having fun!

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains.

Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

THUMP boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.
