CLERMONT RAG FRIDAY APRIL 6, 2018

MAYOR ENCOURAGES ISAAC REGION FARMERS TO HAVE THEIR SAY ON VEGETATION MANAGEMENT LAWS Mayor Anne Baker says it’s not too late for Isaac farmers, landowners and rural and regional community members to have their say about proposed changes to vegetation management laws. Even though written submissions to the State Development, Natural Resources and Agricultural Industries Development Committee has closed, regional hearings are still being heard and State Government decision makers are accessible right up until the law is finalised in Parliament. Mayor Baker said Isaac Regional Council understands that this is an important issue for the agricultural sector. “We encourage affected landowners in our region to have their say now before it is too late,” she said. “The last regional hearing will be in Cairns on April 13 as it’s the only one left still taking registrations – act now.

“While we are not the decision makers we can advocate to State Government on behalf of our communities. “We therefore welcome copies of any submissions made to State Government so we can even better understand and advocate where appropriate.” To register to be part of the regional public hearing in Cairns on April 13 call 135 VEG (135 834) or go to www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-committees/ committees/SDNRAIDC/inquiries/currentinquiries/5VegManagOLAB2018.
