Golden local artists invited to ‘Paint the Pan’ Aspiring and talented artists across the Isaac region are invited to ‘Paint the Pan’ ahead of this year’s Clermont Gold and Coal Festival, August 14 -15. Designed as a creative celebration of all things Clermont, ‘Paint Your Pan’ asks entrants to paint a gold panning dish with anything relating to the unique personality of the town. Exhibition organiser and Clermont Artslink President Erin Zordan said the opportunities are endless for turning gold pans into fantastic works of art.
“Paint Your Pan is Clermont’s first ever art competition and exhibition, and is a great opportunity for young and old to stimulate imagination in a way that is uniquely Clermont,” he said. “The competition has four categories: Primary School, Secondary School, People’s Choice/Community and Open, and for the judges, choosing just one winner from each category will be a tough job.” “It’s a positive first step towards developing Paint Your Pan into an annual event for Clermont.”
“‘Paint Your Pan’ aims to challenge perceptions about conventional art and to provide an innovative approach to art education. Clermont schools and community groups are invited to take up the challenge with entries open until Thursday August 6,” she said.
The competition is funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) who support professional and emerging artists, Glencore and the Gold and Coal Festival who have generously donated the gold pans.
“Entrants can have a go at decorating their gold pans with pop art, zentangles, patterns or folk art—the quirkier and brighter the better.”
The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Queensland local councils.
“We already have 180 pans ‘under construction’ by entrants which is an incredibly encouraging sign that the community has embraced this innovative arts initiative.”
The quirky art competition is open to all residents from around the region, with free entry for students and $10 entry for adults, which includes a gold panning dish.
Deputy Mayor Dale Appleton is looking forward to viewing the final entries, with judging to be held on Saturday August 15.
Entry forms are available at Clermont Library or www. clermontartslink.com, with gold pans to be collected and submitted at Cool Autos, Clermont. For more information please visit www.clermontartslink.com
