The Clermont Hospital Auxiliary (CHA), is a not for profit community organisation which aims to support the staff and patients of the Clermont Hospital in providing quality care to our community.

The Auxiliary has been working within our local community for over 35 years.

The current voluntary committee and members strive to raise funds to enable the improvement of health services for the residents of our community.

To enable the continued success and sustainability of the CHA, we are seeking more members to assist in

achieving the goals of the organisation.

The CHA is a relaxed, friendly group who meet over lunch every second month.

We will be holding our Annual General Meeting today Friday August 19 at the Commercial Hotel Dining Room from 12 midday.

We encourage and welcome all interested parties to attend.

Well again a few happenings in Clermont. A break and enter reported at the JJ Richards workshop and office. Police are investigating but any information on possible goings on there on the night of August 14 or morning of August 15 would be appreciated. Also some gas bottles have been reported missing from the now closed Motor Inn. The gas company is saying it was not them but the truck was seen collecting bottles recently.

Any information please ring the station.

Recent concerns about a male person seen around the streets acting strange including talking to imaginary people, complaining of satellite monitoring and so on.

Community members were right to be concerned.

Clermont Police with the assistance of Mackay Mental Health, the QAS, Clermont Hospital and other health professionals were able to get this man the treatment he needed. Incidentally this is quite a large drain on the town’s resources. When outside people visit our town it does take away from what we have to survive on here so if you do know of people who are coming to visit that will present a challenge should they decide to replace their medications with the fresh air out here tell someone or get them to a major centre where there are a lot more resources to help.

A local man will be appearing in court concerning charges arising out of cattle thefts. Members of the Rockhampton Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad visited Clermont after stock thefts were reported.

A good result from the investigation including extra charges before the court concerning illegal branding, waybill offences and driving offences.

August 22 - 28 is Road Safety Week Clermont Police will be targeting the fatal 5 this week with particular gusto. Remember they are fatigue, speeding, drink driving, distraction (mobile phones etc) and seatbelt wearing. I will be personally speaking to both primary schools in the town of Clermont prior to the week and initiating a certificate and small prize for kids caught doing the right thing on the way to school whether it is by bus, car, bike or walk. I encourage you all to talk to your children about safety on the road, this includes everyone not just mums and dads. I will also be paying a visit to the Year 11 and 12 classes at school and hopefully imparting wise words to adhere to if they want to keep their hard earned licences!

Anyway that’s about it for now. Please travel safe on our roads in the area and talk to you all soon.

Sip and Style is the brainchild of the volunteer fundraiser committee at the Clermont Kindergarten and Day Care Centre. In a routine review in 2015, the Office of Early Childhood Education and Care told the centre that it needed to carryout upgrades to the outdoor play areas. After some small raffles and discos the committee realised that they needed to host a large fundraiser. Past committee members Jennifer Oswald and Fiona Hardgrave had the idea of an upmarket ladies night and rallied support from other volunteers and businesses to turn the idea into reality.

Last year’s Sip and Style was such a success that it raised $12,000, which along with grant funding allowed stage 1 of the upgrades to be completed in April of this year. Following this success and with the support of the local community it was decided the event had to be held annually.

The theme for this year’s Sip and Style is ‘Wonderland’.

Organisers are hoping for an abundance of colourful cocktail dresses accessorised with imaginative yet elegant headpieces.

Jenny Ellis of Sip and Style committee has said “It would be great to see lots of people getting creative with their headpieces. There will be a prize for the best headpiece, amongst other prizes on the night”.

This year’s entertainment will be provided by former The Voice contestant Tameaka Powell. The event will also feature a fashion parade, unlimited access photo booth and an auction. 2016 MasterChef contestant Miles Pritchett will be the Master of Ceremonies. Mr Pritchett will also be recreating a signature dessert for three lucky VIP ticket holders.

Tickets for the event go on sale in early September.

Dress up for Children’s Book Week Storytime

First Five Forever

Come along to Storytime next Friday, 26 August dressed as your favourite book character to celebrate Children’s Book Week 2016.

The First Five Forever program aims to give children from birth to five years old the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes.

Isaac Libraries staff will be getting into the spirit of Children’s Book Week by dressing up as book characters.

Babies and children love sharing stories and it’s never too early to talk, read and tell stories with your child.

Children’s Book Week is being held from 20 – 26 August and is a celebration of Australian children’s literature.

Every year during Children’s Book Week, the Children’s Book Council of Australia announces the ‘Book of the Year’ winners.

The theme for Children’s Book Week 2016 is Australia!

Story Country and there are many fantastic children and young adult books written by Australian authors at the Clermont Library.

Reminisce with May Gibbs’ tales of Blinky Bill’s adventures or settle down for a good read with John Marsden’s ‘Tomorrow’ series.

History books for sale

Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families?

The Clermont Library has some history books relating to Isaac, for sale. If you have an interest in local history, these books would be great to add to your book collection or make a nice gift for someone who likes reading books on ‘Australiana’.

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.

The books for sale are: ‘Below These Mountains’ by Lyall Ford ($15), ‘Behold Nebo: A History of Nebo Shire’ by George A. Mayes ($20) and ‘A Photographic Record of Colonial Queensland’ by Lyall Ford ($20).

Both books by Lyall Ford relate to his great grandfather pioneer photographer and miner, John Henry Mills, who lived in Mount Britton.

Bag a book bargain If you love books and a bargain, come and check out the Clermont Library Book Sale.

Most of the books and items on sale are preloved library books in good condition and paperbacks, magazines and CDs are priced at $2, hardbacks and DVDs cost $3 or buy a bag of books for $12.

Stock is constantly being added to the sale shelves.

Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs.

Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

XT - THUMP boxing It’s a nice way to start your day. This class incorporates 10mins of circuit cardio, 10mins strength training and 20mins thump boxing. A fully functional total body workout that burns, burns, burns.

Shoots this Sunday are as follows:

80’s Night This will be a quick 30mins aerobic workout inspired by the ‘Greats’ of the 80’s. It will incorporate acerbic movement, 80’s Step Aerobics and some of the old time chain dances.

Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results!

It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45mins whole body workout.

This is achieved through the use of Barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

We shoot on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. Arrive at range at 9.30am and commence shooting at 10am. Anyone who is interested in shooting rifles or pistols are welcome to attend.
