Elmo’s big birthday bash at Isaac Libraries Children are invited to celebrate Elmo’s birthday at Isaac Libraries.

Mayor Anne Baker said everyone’s favourite furry red friend is turning 3½ on February 3rd.

“Listen to stories; sing some rhymes and take part in some fun Elmo themed craft activities.”

“Elmo is like any other 3 and half year old, always wanting to learn about new things – words, songs, numbers, craft and games.

Mayor Baker said the special sessions are part of Isaac Libraries First 5 Forever program.

“Kids up to five years old are invited to bring their Elmo or cuddly toy to the Special Story Time sessions from Monday January 30 to Friday February 3.

Tell us how you love your local Isaac Regional Council is inviting residents and visitors to say what spending locally means to them during February.

Mayor Anne Baker said promoting and supporting local businesses are key Council priorities.

“Local spend is vital to increasing employment opportunities, business activity, visitor numbers and economic growth.”

“By participating in the survey, you are providing valuable information on community values and spending habits,” she said.

“With your input, Council aims to develop an understanding of residents and visitors perception of local business.”

“This data will contribute to Council’s 2017 ‘Love Your Local’ awareness and incentive program and beyond.

The survey and campaign are proudly supported by funding through Isaac Regional Council and the Local Buying Foundation.

“You can have your say through the Isaac Local Spending Habits Survey.

The survey will be available online at Council’s website and in hardcopy from Council Libraries and Offices from Wednesday February 1.”

The survey takes around 8 minutes to complete and closes 5pm Tuesday February 28.

Join in the fun of ‘Blind Date with a Book’ and weekly chocolate draws during February.

“If you’re new to Isaac Libraries, come on in and sign up for a free membership to get reading.

“They’re a great place to meet with friends, learn new skills, explore technology and let imaginations run wild.

“Our friendly staff are specifically trained to help you find what you want.”

“Everyone is welcome to join in the free fun this February. “’Blind Date with a Book’ is back by popular demand, where adult novels will be wrapped and placed on shelves for borrowing.

“Take a lucky dip and save the surprise for when you get home, you never know what exciting new title you may discover.

Library Lovers Month is run in conjunction with Library Lovers Day on February 14.

The Australian Library and Information Association initiative aims to raise the profile of the services offered at libraries across Australia.

Public Notices Clermont Historical Centre closed for conservation works Isaac Regional Council advises residents and visitors the Clermont Historical Centre will close for planned conservation works from: Saturday December 24, 2016 to Tuesday February 28, 2017 During the closure museum staff will work to preserve Clermont’s historical items to ensure their longevity.

Projects include: •

Restoration of the original Aveling Porter Steam Traction Engine that moved Clermont during the 1916 Flood.

•

Continued restoration of Masonic Lodge including sanding and sealing of floors.

•

Progression of the digitisation of paper based collections.

•

Working to improve disabled access to the centre.

•

Planning for the 2017 Community Open Day and 2018 exhibition theme.

The centre will reopen to visitors from Wednesday March 1, 2017.

When the centre reopens the ‘Flood of Memories’ Exhibition will be on display until December 2017.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by the closure and thanks the community in advance for their patience.

Skate park shade structure works, Clermont Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents and skate park users of construction to install a new shade structure.

Weather permitting, construction will occur:

During this time the skate park will be closed for public use.

Construction access will be via Collins Street due to the current wet conditions on site.

Floodwater is unpredictable - water may be deeper and faster flowing than it appears. What looks safe can quickly escalate into dangerous conditions.

Laglan Road open at Mistake Creek (Rocky Crossing)

Road crews are monitoring current conditions and updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Every Suspension training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once, as is required on the playing fields of sport and in life.

A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility.

Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast

It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps.

An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas.

Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy.

Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results!

It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45mins whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of Barbell and Dumbbell weights.

This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

One Million Stars to End Violence Isaac Libraries will host star weaving work stations between August 2016 - July 2017. Everyone from individuals to community groups are invited to join the project and help weave stars.

Help Isaac Libraries reach their goal of 10,000 stars

August 2016 - July 2017 One Million Stars to End Violence is a love and peace filled community project started by Brisbane artist Maryann Talia Pau and supported by Queensland State Government. The goal is to weave one million stars to display at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018.

‘One Million Stars’

Celebrating Library Lovers month February is a month of romance and if you are a lover of books and reading, join the Isaac Libraries in celebrating Library Lovers Month during February.

Isaac Libraries staff are encouraging patrons to have a blind date with a book. Books will be wrapped in paper and patrons may go on a ‘blind date’ with these books by borrowing them.

Isaac Libraries books exchanged Isaac Libraries recently completed an exchange of books among themselves to refresh their collection. Come and check out what is new to the Clermont Library.

A huge thank you to the Clermont Community for its participation in the ‘One Million Stars to End Violence’ star weaving project.

Isaac Libraries are well on the way to reaching its goal of making 10,000 stars for the ‘One Million Stars’ project.

We have a star weaving station set up for people to drop in anytime during opening hours to weave a star from ribbon.

If you want to escape the heat, come to the Clermont Library to enjoy the air-conditioning and make a few stars. Gather a few friends and make a morning or afternoon of it.

What’s Happening In February at Isaac Libraries Storytime will be celebrating Elmo’s Birthday on Friday February 3 and welcoming the Chinese New Year on February 10.

The Chinese Zodiac is celebrating this year being the Year of the Rooster and Storytime on February 10 will be themed around chickens.

Storytime will also celebrate Valentine’s Day and Library Lover’s Month during February.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.

Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs.

Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.

Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years.
