Ball to bring down Youth Suicide

More than 250 guests helped bring down youth suicide in Isaac at Mayor Anne Baker’s Charity Ball proudly supporting youth suicide prevention on Saturday night (October 22).

Isaac Regional Charity Fund Director and Mayor Anne Baker said the impacts of youth suicide are instant, widespread and long-lasting.

“If you are going through a tough time or you’re concerned about someone you know, don’t wait speak up.

“There are services like Kids Helpline, Headspace and ReachOut, visit their websites for information and support.”

“According to HeadSpace, one in four young Aussies will experience mental health issues and most of them will not seek help.

“We need to talk more openly to tear down the stigma about mental health issues.”

“By raising funds and community awareness we can make a positive contribution and provide support to those who need it.”

“To ensure Isaac communities directly benefit, proceeds raised will be pledged to support local initiatives through the Isaac Regional Charity Fund.”

The stylish evening under the stars included a three course meal, live entertainment by country rock artist Brooke Schubert, comedian Des Dowling and Mezzanine, raffles, charity auction and dancing in Moranbah Town Square.

More than 25 businesses and organisations have sponsored the evening to support youth suicide prevention.

$38M funding injection spells a great day for Isaac Isaac communities and industry are set to benefit from more than $38 million of Federal and State funding announced today.

Long standing Isaac Regional Council advocacy projects, the Peak Downs Highway, Clermont-Alpha Road, Clermont Water Security and Urannah Dam, are set for a boost.

Mayor Anne Baker said it’s been a long time coming.

“I would like to congratulate and thank everyone who has had a part in bringing this funding to Isaac.

“The Australian Government’s Northern Australia Roads Programme (NARP) and Beef Roads Programme will see the Peak Downs Highway receive $28 million.

“The project will include pavement widening and strengthening from Logan Creek to Nine Mile Creek.

“This is a particularly dangerous section of the highway linking Clermont and Moranbah, with a large volume of heavy traffic.

“Clermont-Alpha Road has received a much needed $6.97 million.

“Funding will be used to progressively seal sections of the critical economic corridor used by mining, agriculture and tourism industries in Isaac.”

“The hard work doesn’t end here.

Council will continue to advocate for better road and water infrastructure to ensure Isaac has a bright and secure future.”

Meanwhile, the Queensland Government has provided a boost to crucial water infrastructure and supply projects.

Isaac’s Federal and State Government funding announced today:

“It’s exciting to see the Clermont Water Security Feasibility Study will receive $225,000,” said Mayor Baker.

“It’s a valuable solution to meet growing water supply demands from industry.

“It feels like a lifetime of advocating, but today is a significant step forward.

I’ve been at some emotional events lately. The 1916 Clermont Flood commemorative plaque unveiling ceremony was very moving.

While I’ve attended the National Police Remembrance Day in Moranbah for a few years now, each year I get emotional. We should all appreciate the fantastic job these people do and thank them more.

The Clermont Mental Wellbeing also gave me a lot to think about.

The Clermont Races had a festive atmosphere. Well done to everyone involved in these events. Lagoon works are underway and the Clermont Pool is looking fantastic. While we should all use water wisely, there are no authorised water restrictions in place. Details to be provided in November.

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.

Isaac SES ‘Be Extraordinary’ Who We Are

The Isaac State Emergency Service (SES) is part of a national organisation of ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things’.

Each year they help their communities in times of emergency and disaster, protecting the safety of our people.

The Isaac SES is always in need of volunteers. All SES volunteers are trained and equipped to help their communities with the primary purpose of helping our most vulnerable community members.

Isaac SES operate across depots in Moranbah, Nebo, Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount, Glenden, St Lawrence, Carmila and Greenhill, and welcomes volunteers aged 16 years and over.

What We Do Isaac SES volunteers empower members of the community to help themselves and others in times of emergency and disaster, so they can focus on helping the most vulnerable.

SES members work as part of a skilled team and have approved functions based on local hazards and skill sets.

As an SES volunteer you may not be activated on a regular basis, however your assistance will be critical when needed.

Becoming ‘Extraordinary’ No matter who you are or what you do, there’s an SES task to suit everyone. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds - officer workers, miners, farmers, students, tradies and retirees.

In addition to helping your community in times of need you’ll become part of a like-minded yet diverse group of people.

You’ll form lasting friendships, and develop real life skills and knowledge that can be carried through to the workforce and will stay with you forever.

Many Isaac employers support volunteers in their workforce, meaning if you’re activated while at work they will support your SES commitments.

No matter who you are, or what you do, the SES needs you.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps.

This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

XT - THUMP boxing It’s a nice way to start your day.

This class incorporates 10mins of circuit cardio, 10mins strength training and 20mins thump boxing.

A fully functional total body workout that burns, burns, burns.

80’s Night This will be a quick 30mins aerobic workout inspired by the ‘Greats’ of the 80’s. It will incorporate acerbic movement, 80’s Step Aerobics and some of the old time chain dances.

It’s fitness and fun in one!

Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results!

It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45mins whole body workout.

This is achieved through the use of Barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.
