Seniors week in Isaac – it’s on for young and old This year’s Seniors Week celebrations are on from August 15-23 with lots to do across the Isaac region.

Batchelor Parade. This event will go from 9am – 12pm.

Seniors Week is an opportunity for Queenslanders of all ages to join together and celebrate the valuable contribution of older people and provides an opportunity to bring together the community through events and activities.

Out and about in Dysart, Hinterland Community Care (HCC) will host a Seniors Week High Tea from 10am, Tuesday August 18 in the gardens of the HCC House, 12 Murphy Street. Contact Hinterland Community Care on 4958 2116 for more details.

The annual Seniors Week Luncheon for Moranbah and Clermont residents will be held on Thursday August 20 at the Clermont Civic Centre, Daintree Street. A free return bus service for seniors of Moranbah will be departing from Batchelor Parade, outside the Council Office at 9am.

Commencing at 10.30am the luncheon will commence with morning tea followed by lunch along with a fashion parade and cent sale. This event is proudly supported by Isaac Regional Council to book or for more information call 1300 47 22 27.

In Moranbah, the Moranbah Community Workers Club will host a special morning tea from 10am – 11.30am on Monday August 17. For bookings and details call Moranbah Community Workers Club on 4941 6060.

Public Notices Clermont library temporarily closed Isaac Regional Council would like to advise that the Clermont library will be closed on Saturday August 15.

We are currently reviewing library programming and services and have implemented some temporary changes to the operational hours of the Moranbah and Clermont Libraries.

These changes are while we work to ensure library services meet the needs of the community and remain financially sustainable.

The library will reopen at 8.30am Monday August 17 as per usual opening hours.

Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.

Road works on Jeffrey Street – Rubyvale Road, Clermont Isaac Regional Council would like to advise motorists that intersection upgrades are being conducted at the Jeffrey Street-Rubyvale Road intersection.

This maintenance will commence on Monday August 3 between the hours of 6.30am to 5pm and the expected completion date is Friday September 11.

Traffic management signage will be in place and motorists could expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

Council apologises for any delays or inconvenience during this time and asks that motorists abide by the traffic management plans in place.

Clermont Midwifery FAQs

What is a midwife?

Clermont’s midwives are registered nurses who have specialised in midwifery and are endorsed midwives, Midwives are educated to give all necessary care throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the new-born period.

Can I deliver my baby in Clermont?

Clermont is not a birthing hospital, however the Clermont MPHS has a shared care arrangement with all major facilities in the district.

Do I still need to see a doctor?

Yes – you should still see a doctor to confirm your pregnancy.

Following he initial visit, you can contact the Clermont MPHS Midwives who will advise you as to future care required for your pregnancy.

What is shared care?

Shared care is the formal partnership between the health professionals that will look after you and your baby during pregnancy and following the birth of your baby.

The Clermont mid-wives also run Antenatal classes for groups of pregnant women who wish to learn about labour, birthing options, preparing for your newborn, breastfeeding and looking after the mother after birth. Groups run regularly as required, and can be flexibly timed to suit your schedule.

QCWA News contributed by Jo-Anne Dennis At our AGM the following Officer bearers were elected for the coming year: President Elaine Grubb; Vice Presidents Jenny Wilby and Lillian Duckett; Secretary Linley Hollier; Treasurer Fay Walker; International Officer Maureen Legge; and Publicity Officer Jo-Anne Dennis.

At our recent meeting discussions were held on our upcoming Dinner Dance/Auction to be held on the September 12 to celebrate our 90 years. The catering will be done by Coast2Coast Roast and the band for the night will be Time Lapse and Danny McKay. Tickets are $40 and are available at Ornabellas. We are still looking for items to Auction on the night.

A decision was made to donate $500 to Monash Lodge towards their bus and $50 to each of the local schools for their Awards night.

Some members have had a very busy time catering at the local cattle sale, bull sale and a clearing sale. Well done ladies.

Members, Traci and Selina with the help of Betty Murphy held a very successful Hoy and morning tea. Thank you ladies.

Another Hoy and morning tea is planned for Friday August 21 to celebrate National Seniors Week. We will be hosting this event at the CWA hall and the Isaac Regional Council are sponsoring this event. Admission will be free.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime and Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families.

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these sessions are a good way to connect with parents and young children. Bookings are essential please phone 4983 4746 or email Clermont.Library@isaac.qld.gov.au Rhymetime is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs.

Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years.

Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.

Playgroup If you have children under 5 and would like to get out and meet other mums and children, you are always welcome at playgroup on Wednesday mornings (during the school term) at 9.15am in the Clermont State School Hall.

Smiling for Smiddy is coming to town.

On Wednesday September 2 the Smiling for Smiddy challenge is coming into town for its tenth anniversary celebrations. Around 50 bike riders and 10 support personnel will spend the night here as part of their epic fundraising challenge of riding 1800kms between Brisbane and Townsville. The event is held in honour of Adam Smiddy, a Brisbane Triathlete who died at the age of 26 from an aggressive melanoma.

Money raised supports the Mater Foundation research into cancer.

Participants stay at various places and venues throughout the week, with Clermont being one of the special nights when riders are billeted out and all billiters and interested people are welcome to join the group for a community dinner – allegedly one of the highlights of the trip for the group. It is a great chance to meet some interesting people and to have a fun night out. Everyone is welcome.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS TRX Suspension Training Every exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability, as is required both in sport and in life.

Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants.

Intermediate Monday, Friday and Saturdays.

Rip Group Rx A high intensity strength conditioning class using barbell and light weights.

1 hour in duration. Bring towel and water bottle! $15.00 casual/free for members. Rip Express is a 45min major muscle group workout.

THUMP boxing for fitness 1 hour free for members, Beginners L1 run Wednesday nights 6pm. A pair of inners to be worn under gloves can be purchased for $5 before class. L2 and L3 bookings only! Boxing equipment provided for both classes. $15 per class, free for gym members.

Yoga A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility.

There are many benefits of Yoga, this class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation. Bookings for Yoga are essential. $15 for casuals. $6 for

children up to 14 years. Power Yoga is not suitable for children under 10 years of age.

Pilates- Level 1 Matwork 45 mins learn the fundamentals of pilates in a low impact class for good posture, strength for pelvic floor, core and general toning.

Pregnancy Pilates A low impact pilates class which focuses on pelvic floor, posture and general strength and well being for pregnant ladies who have been cleared to exercise during their pregnancy. Bookings essential.

Tight Arse Tuesday’s $7.00 gym passes and squash. Don’t get offended get active!

SPIN/Revolution Great music and a fantastic calorie burning hour of indoor cycling. You’ll learn correct technique for improved performance and have fun cycling.

Thirteen vets played a stroke competition and the winner was Jerry Marr with run downs to Kathy McGuiness, Bill Moller and Alan McGuiness. Least putts 13 to Alan McGuiness.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane.

While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas.

Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Open Gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

Lets Lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minute whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for every fitness level.

Mad GRIT This is a 30min program incorporating core, strength and cardio based exercise, ideal for total fitness development.

Workout Of the Day (WOD) This is a board based program, working TO the principles of H.I.I.T where you can come in and complete the workout in your own time.

Shoot this Sunday will be: 10am – Rifle - 50m Rimfire Field Rifle 3 & 4 positional 1pm – Pistol – IPSC Match & Air Pistol Silhouette or Gallery Pistol Man v Man.

What is H.I.I.T? High-intensity interval training is a training technique, which commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by active recovery periods. This form of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolizing fat at the same time.
