contributed by Sarge Another wet week in Clermont has some farmers and graziers smiling from ear to ear. Like I said its the talking topic of the town. Some are boasting how much they got and the sight of some folks trying to outdo each other is great. Some have still missed out and lets all pray that everybody gets something.

Low level flooding on some of the roads in the area has been a danger to some drivers. If it is flooded, forget it. I know some people go through it all the time but it is what is under the water that matters. The ramifications and consequences can be devastating from loss of vehicle, life and also insurance companies not paying for losses. So if flooded, FORGET IT. On the crime front a utility in the hospital carpark was damaged by having the back window broken during the night. The damage was reported to hospital staff but nobody was seen in the vicinity of the vehicle so if anyone has any information about this offence please call crimestoppers 1800 333 000 or the station on 4983 4400. This follows another window being smashed on a vehicle in French Street a fortnight before. I don’t need to tell everyone how much this crime costs so any information would be appreciated. Some items that went missing from the Toll Depot in town have been located in Emerald at a suspects residence. Information was provided to the victim who then alerted Emerald Police where the items have been recovered. A young woman is helping police with the investigation now.

The news on traffic enforcement is also good with no drink drivers detected so far this year in Clermont. With four courtesy buses in town its good to see patrons utilising them instead of risking running the gauntlet. Remember there is no excuse if you get caught, it is your fault. Some people still insist its the police officers fault when they loose their licence and job. Think again!!

Weapons Audits are continuing across the area with the latest round almost completed. If you do get contacted by police it is a simple process of us inspecting your gun safe where the guns are kept to ensure compliance with legislation. This is good for everyone so guns do not get stolen. Every day weapons are reported stolen in Queensland and we all know where they will end up, in the hands of criminals who can’t obtain them legally! If you are purchasing new weapons Graeme Gordon at Jimbaroo Downs does brokering firearms transactions so see him only if you live within 100 kilometres of that property. You can broker at the Police Station but try Graeme first. Please everyone keep vigilant and don’t let those licences expire, check the dates and renew as soon as possible.

Same with drivers licences, check the dates and make sure you check your most recent licence. Had a very embarrassed and apologetic lady come into the station the other day to say she was over a year out of date. When I checked she was fine. She had forgotten she had renewed her licence and was looking at the old one, not the new one. She then complained of getting older and walked out. A short time later she came back in again as her car keys were still sitting on the counter, older age again apparently!

With the kids back at school now parents can take a sigh of relief but please be vigilant on the trips to and from school.

Practice good road rules and watch the kids on bicycles and when they are walking. By nature kids are a wandering group and sometimes easily distracted.

I, Stephen Masters would like to thank all the people of Clermont and surrounding areas who have brought their vehicle’s to me to fix over the last 35 years.

Time has come for me to hang up the spanners and to start a new career, as Highland Motors is now closing because of the downturn of the economy.

Monash Lodge residents love the library

A group of residents from Monash Lodge visited the Clermont Library last week. Those who are regular borrowers loved being able to visit the library and choose their own books.

Library staff usually choose the books for these patrons and they are collected by a Lodge volunteer to deliver them to Monash Lodge.

The residents also enjoyed a singalong to ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’.

As the bus had to make 2 trips to ferry the residents the last group also settled back and happily listed to me reading them a picture book.

The ‘ressies’ enjoyed the visit and Clermont Library staff are hoping that this can become a monthly event for the Monash Lodge residents.

Clermont & District Servicemen’s Club Opening hours are: 5.30pm to 7.30pm Wednesday and 5.30pm to late on Friday Come on in and enjoy a friendly chat with your friends or family.

On the Shelf Calling all Library Lovers It’s February…the most romantic month of the year!

February is Library Lovers month.

Isaac Libraries is celebrating Library Lovers month during February and invite all community members to visit their Isaac Library to find romance…with a book, propose to read a book on their ‘must read list’ or go on a blind date with a different genre or author.

As 2016 is a leap year, there is an extra day in February… so leap into reading this month!

Back to school The new school year has started and have you thought about getting your child/children to join the Clermont Library?

The Isaac Libraries, which the Clermont Library, is part of, have a lot to offer school students to help them with their school work and assignments.

Young students can access numerous e-resources databases through the Isaac Libraries link on the Isaac Regional Council website to help with literacy and numeracy skills and for high school students, there are databases focused on history, science, geography and other subject areas.

An Isaac Libraries membership will allow students to borrow resources from any Isaac Libraries or through an Interlibrary Loan outside the Isaac region.

Come and visit the Clermont Library and enquire about library membership.

Play and Learn with Busythings Busythings is one of many free library e-resources available via Council’s website.

Busythings aims to help children aged three to 11 years develop their literacy, numeracy, music, art and ICT skills through fun and interactive learning activities.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime and Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families.

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.

Rhymetime is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.

Pregnancy Pilates A low impact pilates class which focuses on pelvic floor, posture and general strength and well being for pregnant ladies who have been cleared to exercise during their pregnancy.

Pilates Level 1 Matwork 45mins learn the fundamentals of Pilates in a low impact class for good posture, strength for pelvic floor, core and general toning.

Yoga A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility.

There are many benefits of Yoga, this class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation. BOOKINGS FOR YOGA ARE ESSENTIAL. $16.50 for casuals . $6.60 for children up to 14 years. Power Yoga is not suitable for children under 10 years of age.

SPIN/Revolution Great music and a fantastic calorie burning hour of indoor cycling. You’ll learn correct technique for improved performance and have fun cycling.

We shoot on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. Arrive at range at 9.30am and commence shooting at 10am. Anyone who is interested in shooting rifles or pistols are welcome to attend.

This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Aqua Fit An excellent fitness class in the water for all ages groups and fitness levels, the class is a combination of deep water and shallow water aquatic exercises designed to improve flexibility, aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy.

Madabout Fitness

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

THUMP boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.
