Inspiring Australia Day Ambassador Annabel Pike will join Clermont’s Australia Day celebrations at the Clermont Pool, January 26.

Clermont to host Australia Day Ambassador Annabel Pike on January 26 Australia Day Ambassador Annabel Pike will bring plenty of heart to this year’s Australia Day celebrations in Clermont.

The humble Australian is recognised nationally as HESTA Australian Nurse of the Year 2015 and 2014, recipient of The Pride of Australia Care and Compassion Medal 2013 and nominated for Australian of the Year 2014 working in her field of Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care Nursing.

Mayor Anne Baker said despite many of her own life hurdles Annabel has achieved greatly.

“I am very honoured to welcome Annabel to our region as an Ambassador to our nation’s day.”

“She is a deeply admirable person, overcoming her own battle to show great virtue and skill in her field of nursing, in Australia and abroad,” said Mayor Baker.

Annabel Pike, born at 26 weeks gestation with profound, bilateral sensory hearing loss, said she couldn’t be more grateful to be an educated woman living in a country like Australia.

“When I nursed overseas, I quickly appreciated the resources and opportunities gifted to me as an educated woman in Australia.”

“It evokes sadness to be this fortunate, but proud to be Australian.”

Annabel Pike will join Clermont Australia Day celebrations held at the Clermont Pool, starting with a themed Australia Day street parade from 7.30am.

Australia Day Ambassadors are sportspeople, scientists, business people, actors, and community workers who provide added inspiration and pride to Australia Day. The Australia Day Ambassador Program is coordinated by Australia Day Council and communities in each state and territory, sending high achieving Australians to over 300 community celebrations nationwide.

Expressions of Interest open for Community Drought Support Packages Isaac Regional Council is seeking expressions of interest from local community organisations to apply for Community Drought Support Packages up to the value of $5,000.

The organisations must demonstrate the ability to deliver local community events and activities which support connectedness, social wellbeing and increased access to support services.

The funding, an initiative of the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services Community Drought Support Package, seeks to strengthen the resilience of drought affected Queenslanders by improving access to and participation in support services and community events.

Interested parties are encouraged to complete the Expression of Interest Form available at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/drought-support-packages and/or discuss their initiative with Isaac Regional Council’s Grants Administration Officer on 1300 472 227 or email communitygrants@isaac.qld.gov.au.

Community Budget Bids now open Isaac Regional Council is encouraging residents to submit community improvements they wish to see through submitting Community Budget Bids.

Community Budget Bids for the 2016-17 financial year are now open, closing Monday February 1.

Mayor Anne Baker hopes that many Isaac residents will take up the opportunity to have input into the new financial year Budget by submitting a bid.

“If residents have a suggestion to help improve community programs or resources then we really encourage them to submit a Community Budget Bid,” she said.

“We are proud to be a region that promotes community input during the budgeting process.”

“We welcome all submissions as they provide us with valuable feedback as to how we can make the Isaac region a better place to live, work and play.”

Community Budget Bid forms can be downloaded from www.isaac.qld.gov.au/budget or obtained by visiting your local Council office.

Council also provides assistance to community groups and organisations through its Community Grants Program.

It’s great to be an Aussie in Isaac

Celebrate what’s great about being an Aussie in Isaac at free Australia Day events across the region, Tuesday January 26.

“Council is hosting a special citizenship ceremony in Moranbah to welcome 15 new citizens hailing from around the globe.”

Clermont’s traditional street parade will transform Rubyvale Road into colonial and colourful displays, starting from 7.30am.

From snags on the barbeque, fun in the pool, thong throwing, live music and awarding our best locals with Australia Day Awards, a smorgasbord of family fun is on offer.

“Australia Day events across the region are about coming together to celebrate, bond and appreciate our friends, families, communities and our country,” Cr Baker said.

The parade is followed by a family fun day, official ceremony and markets at the Clermont Pool.

Mayor Anne Baker said what better way than Australia day to share the landmark moment of people making the final step to becoming an Australian citizen.

A free barbeque brekkie and official ceremony will follow, with free entry to the Greg Cruikshank Aquatic Centre all day.

Give your child the best start Come along to the launch of First 5 Forever at Isaac Libraries, 10am Wednesday February 3 to find out how you can give your child the best start to life.

“We know parents and primary caregivers are their child’s first and most important teacher,” Mayor Anne Baker said.

“This family literacy program supports parents and caregivers to nurture their child’s love of language before they start kindy and school.”

“The aim is to give children from birth to five years old in our communities the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes.”

To help parents get started, there are free packs with Meme Fox’s ‘Reading Magic’, a children’s book, fact sheets, nursery rhyme CD and a play-based activity available at their local library.

The launch features Nursery and action Rhymes, a reading of ‘I’m a Dirty Dinosaur’, followed by an easy activity to create a Nursery Rhyme keepsake.

This initiative is proudly supported by the Queensland Government, State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with Isaac Regional Council.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime and Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families.

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.

Bookings are essential please phone 4983 4746 or email Clermont.Library@isaac.qld gov.au Rhymetime is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs.

Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Rhymetime and Baby Bounce will not be held during January.

Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.

Pregnancy Pilates A low impact pilates class which focuses on pelvic floor, posture and general strength and well being for pregnant ladies who have been cleared to exercise during their pregnancy.

Pilates Level 1 Matwork 45 mins learn the fundamentals of Pilates in a low impact class for good posture, strength for pelvic floor, core and general toning.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane.

While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas.

Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Boot camp Boot camp is a type of outdoor group class that mixes your traditional calisthenic and body weight exercise with interval and strength training.

Our boot camp incorporates; tyre flipping and throwing, battle rope work, kettlebell, fence climbing and much more! It is a work at your own pace class, designed to be challenging whilst also having fun!

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains.

Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic

workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

THUMP boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.

Clermont Clay Target Club Shoots are held 4th Sunday of the month. 9.30 am start. Practice is held most Tuesday afternoons or via appointment.
