Dynamic duo awarded Isaac Citizen of the Year A dynamic husband and wife duo of 36 years have accepted the Isaac region’s top community award, the Isaac 2016 Citizen of the Year. John and Jan Burnett of Bendemeer Station, Clermont, accepted the award together at Australia Day celebrations among family and friends.
“Jack is a true sportsman on and off the field,” said local Councillor Jane Pickels. “He excels in Rugby League and Volleyball, but takes time out to help and encourage younger and disabled students at school.”
“As a team, they are outstanding recipients for this year’s flagship award,” said Mayor Anne Baker.
“As school captain at Middlemount Community School, we are proud of his maturity and strength of character, and we wish him a successful year ahead,” Cr Pickels said.
“They continue to contribute to the region’s vibrant Clermont community through numerous committees and fundraising efforts.”
Community Event of the Year has been awarded to a colourful affair, the 2015 Multicultural Food and Arts Festival hosted by Moranbah Arts.
“They are strong advocates and spokespeople for the cattle and beef industry and philanthropic business owners.”
The event attracted over 2,000 visitors over three days to enjoy food, workshops, displays, music, tours and dance.
“Over the years John and Jan Burnett have played an enormous part in building Clermont and the region’s communities and industry,” said Mayor Baker.
“I congratulate all Australia Day nominees and award winners and I thank you all for your outstanding contribution to our communities. I continue to be inspired each year by the quiet achievers around me,” said Mayor Baker.
Jack Lonergan of Middlemount has been named 2016 Young Citizen of the Year for his exceptional leadership qualities and sportsmanship.
