Clermont Remembrance Day Service - Lionel Duck, Clermont RSL Sub Branch President David Ward and Gordon Murray
Remembering the fallen RSL contingents of Nebo, Moranbah and Clermont led commemorative services on Thursday November 11, to remember fallen men and women in conflict past and present. At 11am, community members joined with RSL representatives, ex-service men and women, police officers and elected members in one minute’s silence at local cenotaphs. Clermont RSL Sub branch President David Ward said it was a solemn occasion, a day we respect lives lost for our country. “Remembrance Day means so much to me personally and to our community,” he said. “Many of us know families of these fallen service men and women, or are affected by current conflicts abroad.”
“It’s important we pay our tributes respectfully,” he said. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said she honoured the meaning of Remembrance Day. “Remembering shows the deep respect we have for our countrymen and women and what it means to be an Australian,” she said. Remembrance Day services were held at the Moranbah Town Square Cenotaph and Clermont Cenotaph at the Civic Centre. The Clermont Historical Centre’s exhibition ‘Anzac Heroes and Heroines’ showcasing local relics and stories to celebrate the Anzac Centenary is still on display, open Wednesday to Saturday 9am to 3pm.
