COLORS TREATMENT The video aims to bring attention to one of the most unique aspects of OCAD’s architecture – its colors. The intention of the video is to prompt students, teachers, designers and visitors of OCAD to reflect about the role of colors in the built environment. The film is a low-budget project, relying on the use of equipment rented from the Daniel’s Faculty. The video will run for approximately two and a half minutes. Designers, artists and architects turn to colors to create moods, symbols and aesthetic appeal. Throughout the campus, an individual can observe a strong emphasis on a colored theme. This emphasis presents itself in the form multicolored pillars of the Sharp Centre for Design and various uniquely single colored locations around the campus. The motif of the film is the relationship between people’s moods and the different colors of the building. While the focus of the film is placed on the spaces within the campus of OCAD, the relationship between mood and color is depicted through the appearances of a character who moves through different locations of the building. The film depicts the journey of a student through different parts of OCAD in a regular weekday. The film goes through green, yellow, blue and red spaces before ending with a night scene. The feelings of freshness, happiness, sadness and passion are illustrated respectively by the different colored spaces. The track “The Winner Is” by Mychael Danna & Devotchka was chosen as it begins with a light hearted tone before moving to a more emotional climax. This corresponds to the emotional order of the scenes, allowing the journey through the building to become a more immersive experience. The film is largely shot through panning movements and moving shots. This was done to replicate natural movement through the building despite the budget constraints. At the end of the video, the audience will have gone through an emotional journey around OCAD and hopefully, they will pay more attention to the colors that are subtly influencing their moods.

FILM STILL 1 We start the film by introducing the character as she makes her way towards OCAD through the park. This scene shows the position of OCAD beside the green park where there are tons of activity happening during the day. The greenery of the park suggests “freshness” marking the start of the student’s daily journey through the OCAD campus.
9
COLORS FILM STILL 2 This scene depicts the yellow stairwell, an extremely impressionable and easily accessed area. The stairs are fequently used by the students of OCAD as it leads to all the levels of the building, allowing students to skip waiting for the elevator situated beside it. The character depicted in this scene feels happy, represented by the color yellow. Her other thoughts and emtions are subtly represented by other colored spaces throughout the video of the building.
10
FILM STILL 3 The final scene of the video depicts the building at a landscape scale while showing the motion of the character leaving the campus, marking the end of the daily journey through OCAD. The scene is filmed at night to represent that it is common for a design student to work till late at night, only to leave the school when the city sleeps.
