WEEK 1
- FOUNDATION - FLOORING - WALL - ROOFING - GUTTER - AESTHETICS
FOUNDATION:
1_STRUCTURE & CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM AND FUNCTION OF MEMBERS
- The flooring utilises reinforced concrete - The concrete’s compressive nature helps withstand the vertical loads that are put on the site. - The reinforcing steel within the concrete allows it to withstand any tension that the site encounters. - As the site itself is on a slope, the slab and footing system needs to be reinforced as the site is more susceptible to load the will test he tensile strength of the site. - The site has been cut into and flattened before any reinforcing or concrete is placed. - Formwork is used to outline the slab’s borders and heights of the base. - Before the concrete is poured, the underground water and wastewater piping system is put in place as it will be covered. - A series of steel meshing is placed on site to coincide with where the slab will be. - The concrete is mixed off site and poured on site and levelled out to create a clean flat surface.

FLOORING SYSTEM:

1_STRUCTURE & CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM AND FUNCTION OF MEMBERS - The flooring system on the ground floor utilises the concrete slab and a carpet or floorboards will be placed on top of the concrete slab. - The first floor utilises a Posistrut Floor Joist. - These joists consist of 2 beams running parallel to each other and triangular connections are placed to help spread the weight across the beams. - A series of perpendicular F17 load bearing beams also run across the flooring to help with the dead load created by these series of beams. - Each joist is 450mm apart. - Placed on top of the trusses are larger chipboard flooring which helps create a consistent flat surface as well as help spread the live loads that the level will encounters - The floor trusses are fabricated off site by the company Melbourne Trusses and fixed in place accordingly. - Timbre nogging is also used to prevent any tilting of the floor joists. - A series of load bearing timbre columns are also placed around and within the house to help support the second floor up. - Steel beams are also evident as hey help support both the flooring system and the roofing system. - The timbre columns and beams are bolted and utilise fixed joints to ensure that no movement is accessible. - They originate in planks that are then cut accordingly and constructed all on site.

WALL SYSTEM (INTERIOR): 1_STRUCTURE & CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM AND FUNCTION OF MEMBERS - For whole house utilises a timbre framing - In detail, this framing consists of a series of larger timbre load bearing beams as well as columns. As framing structure is constructed around this to create the where the walls and windows would be - Each column is separated at 450mm. - The plasterboard comes at generic sizes therefore; the timbre framing should be able to fit them accordingly. - A mixture of plywood wall bracing and metal wall bracing is used to help fix the timbre framing together. - Sicilation sheeting is placed for sound reflection - On the ground level a foam waterproofing membranes is also placed along the exterior to stop any moisture entering through

- The exterior of the house uses clay brick masonry that is laid and is able to withstand lateral loads such as wind and rain. - The exterior overall will be partly rendered and partly face brick. - The garage is a sold bricks and to help carry the brick lintel steel beam are used - Windows - A timbre lintel beam is located on the top of window to help carry the roof trusses as the window itself cannot carry the roofing system - The lintel steel beam runs parallel to the timbre lintel beam to carry the brick work that will be above the window

ROOFING SYSTEM

1_STRUCTURE & CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM AND FUNCTION OF MEMBERS - The roofing system utilises a series of fabricated timbre trusses - The timbre trusses are 600mm apart - A series of galvanised steel metal truss bracing is used along the roof - Timbre trusses help spread the vertical loads - A series of roof purlins are nailed to the trusses 600mm apart - Used to hold on to the roof tiles. - Roof tiles are made of concrete and layer roughly on top of each other so that water flows down to the gutter accordingly. - The roof is on a 25 degree pitch

GUTTER SYSTEM: 1_STRUCTURE & CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM AND FUNCTION OF MEMBERS - Colourbond steel gutters and fascia - Quad gutter - A box gutter is utilised along the edge of some of the walls to further direct water down to the gutter. - A section along the front of the structure there is a small roofing system that is flat, thus is utilises a box gutter. - A lead flushing is also placed along the edge of the first floor wall and roof to help direct the water onto the roof

- WALL - GUTTER
WALL SYSTEM (EXTERIOR): 1_STRUCTURE & CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM AND FUNCTION OF MEMBERS - This week they were focusing on doing the brickwork around the structure. - The brick work utilises a stretcher bond - The grout used for the brick work is weather struck - Along back of the structure, instead of using bricks, a foam board will be used on the first floor and will be rendered. - The foam board is 75mm thick - Cheaper and much easier to set in place, yet still able to withstand thermal stresses
