Diploma: A Diagrammatic Self-sufficient Urban Structure
The Earth is a spaceship – a closed system with finite resources. We are currently 7 billion people consuming 1,5 earths, with 3,5 billion of them living in cities. In 2050 there will be 6,3 billion city dwellers. How we choose to organize our lives in these vast new urban areas is vital to limiting the impossible growth in resource consumption. Producing basic resources such as food and energy locally provides resilience in an ever-changing world. The project presents a tool, method and structure – a framework for life in cities – reconnecting the people with their lifesupporting functions.
