AMORADA RESIDENCE This project consists of a two-floor house in the Amorada Development near the Pueblo Magico Villa de Santiago. This is a house for a family between 4 or 6 people. It provides spacious common areas and comfortable rooms for the family. The Design process was focused on functionality and proximity. The narrow property called for a rectangular house but it resulted in dark spaces and lack of green areas.

Este proyecto consiste en una casa de dos pisos en el Desarrollo Amorada cerca del Pueblo Mágico Villa de Santiago. Esta es una casa para una familia de entre 4 o 6 personas. Ofrece amplias zonas comunes y cómodas habitaciones para la familia. El proceso de diseño se centró en la funcionalidad y la proximidad. La estrecha propiedad llamó a una casa rectangular, pero resultó en espacios oscuros y falta de áreas verdes.

NATURE INTERPRETATION MUSEUM Journey from the city to the mountain. Chipinque natural reserve is situated 300+ AMSL in one of the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountain range, and is one of the many that surround mountains that surround the city of Monterrey. Because of its contrast with the urbanized city, Chipinque has become an oasis for the people that live in Monterrey. The idea of building an interpretation center in the slope of the mountain was challenging because it should not interfere with a massive volume that cuts thru the mountain without regarding the natural environment. This building adapts to the slope and allows the existing vegetation to remain.

Viaje de la ciudad a la montaña. La reserva natural de Chipinque se encuentra a 300+ AMSL en una de las Cordilleras Sierra Madre Oriental y es una de las muchas montañas que rodean la ciudad de Monterrey. Debido a su contraste con la ciudad urbanizada, Chipinque se ha convertido en un oasis para la gente que vive en Monterrey. La idea de construir un centro de interpretación en la ladera de la montaña era desafiante porque no debería interferir con un volumen masivo que corta la montaña sin tener en cuenta el medio ambiente natural. Este edificio se adapta a la pendiente y permite que la vegetación existente permanezca.

The shape of the building responds to the slope of the mountain. It consists of four half levels that are connected thru ADA accesible ramps so everyone can enjoy the museum. It is divided in Three main areas, two experience cubes and two circulation and service cubes. In first area, located in the first floor, is the reception, auditorium and offices. The second Area, located in the second and third floor, holds the main part of the museum where the main expositions and proyections take place. It also houses workshops and open interactive rooms. Finally, Hotel is located in the highest part of the building.

NANOTECHNOLOGY CENTER The purpose of this project is to create a space for high-tech research inside DistritoTec corridor. This proposal incorporates a nanotechnology research center in one of the most important corners of the Tec de Monterrey to encourage encourage the retention of talent produced by the institution and capture new ones from other places. The shape and scale of the building responds directly to the characteristics of its surroundings. Garza Sada Av., being a main artery, displays a much massive scale while Garcia Roel shows a more adequate scale for pedestrian activity. In the center of this space, a plaza is proposed with shading elements to incentivize activity in this area and serving as the gateway to the innovation district that this square holds.

El propósito de este proyecto es crear un espacio de investigación de alta tecnología dentro del corredor. Esta propuesto incorporar un centro de investigación en el área de nanotecnología en una de las esquinas más importantes del Tec de Monterrey para fomentar la retención de talento producido por la institución y captar nuevos de otros lugares. La forma y escala del edificio responden a directamente a las características de su entorno. Av. Garza Sada al ser una vialidad metropolitana se muestra una escala más masiva. Al contrario, Garcia Roel muestra una escala más adecuada para la actividad peatonal. Al centro de este espacio se sitúa una plaza con elementos que generan sombra para incentivar la actividad en este espacio y servir como puerta de entrada al distrito de innovación dentro de esta cuadra.

This project is located on the intersection of Garza Sada Ave. and Fernando Garcia Roel St. An importan part of this project relies on the relacion and connections that it generates, merging to the node it belongs to and creating a new node that that serves as the entrance of the innovation district block. This node is in front of the most important node on the campus, the one located in the Rectoria Esplanade.
The center of nanotechnology will be equipped with very high precision appliances that can only be used under certain conditions. The main factors to consider for these spaces were the vibrations produced by the environment, and the own building, and the quality of the air. 27METERS PROTECTION PERIMETER AGAINST VIBRATIONS PRODUCED BY VEHICLES

Vibrations The main source of vibration is the enviroment. This includes vehicule movement, sounds waves and building machinery. To reduce the effects of this, the building was pushed back creating a broad space that transformed into an esplanade with green areas for sound reduction. Also, the elevators and intalation shafts for HVAC and machinery rooms, meant to serve the office tower, are located at the end of the building where the effects of the vibration doesn’t reach the cleanrooms. --

Air quality The most important benefit of working inside a cleanroom is the capacity to work in a controlled area. The air is processed by filters that allow just a certain amoint of particles into the system. The amount of filters varies depending on the amount of particles allowd in the system; ISO9 being the one that permits the largest diameter and count of particles and ISO1 being the one with the smallest diameter and count of particles. Filters are placed above the cleanroom and air is injected into them letting it flow ondirectionally to the perforated floor that returnes the air to the system. In cleanrooms of lower particle count, the air is not recycled as it may contaminate the system.

DISTRITO-TEC URBAN CORRIDOR This project was born with the necessity of generating sustainable spaces and conditions that encourage research, innovation, learning and entrepreneurship. The main goal is to develop a safe, inspiring and dynamic community to attract and maintain talent within the area to trigger the development of Monterrey and benefit its positioning in the international context. However, this was a multidisciplinary task were, not only did we use architecture and urbanism to develop a plan for the area, we researched and analyzed topics such as real-estate market, demographics, human behavior, geographic mapping of information and citizenship to cultivate a plan that was best fitted for the area and its specific characteristics.

Este proyecto nace con la necesidad de generar espacios y condiciones sustentables para la investigación, innovación, aprendizaje y emprendimiento. La meta principal es detonando una comunidad segura, inspiradora y dinámica que atraiga y retenga talento, que impulse el desarrollo de Monterrey y coadyuve a su posicionamiento en el contexto internacional. Sin embargo, esta fue una tarea multidisciplinario donde, no solo usamos arquitectura y urbanismo para desarrollar un plan para el área, investigamos y analizamos temas como el mercado inmobiliario, demografía, comportamiento humano, mapeo geográfico de información y ciudadanía para cultivar un plan que se ajustara mejor a las características específicas de la zona.

The corridor lacks of attractivness so young families and graduated students leave the area. 48.5% of the total population of the corridor are between 15 and 29 y.o. and most are university students that depend on their parents to live and are here only until they conclude their education. Furthermore, real-estate offer is expensive and deficients so people rarely stay.

The corridor is well connected thru the City and it’s located in a privileged area. However it’s car oriented and pedestrians are, often, displaced or removed from the equation. Most areas lack of adequete sidewalks, or they are blocqued by cars or urban equipment. Also, the Tec’s fences, borders and parking lots create a sensation of solitude that extends for almost 1/3 of the corridors length.

TACTICAL URBANISM: CIAP POCKET PARK The Tec de Monterrey, in collaboration with DistritoTec, has created a plan to build Pocket parks inside and outside the institution to create larger range of green spaces for the community. Before we started this project, two pocket parks were operating in Luis Elizondo Av. and Junco de la Vega. We came across the opportunity to work on a project that would revitalize an existing sub utilized area by giving it a purpose and a program. This green area (that will hold the thrid pocket park) is approximately 650m2 and was originally inside the instirution. It was decided that it had to be an ephemeral intervention, so with the cooperation of Mike Lydon and Grupolite, we created a proposal for tactical urbanism.

El Tec de Monterrey, en conjunto con DistritoTec, a creado un plan para construís pocket parks dentro y fuera del campus para crear una mayor oferta de áreas verdes para la comunidad. Antes de empezar este proyecto ya existían 2 pocket parks sobre Av. Luis Elizondo y Junco de la Vega. Tuvimos la oportunidad de trabajar en un projecto revitalizaria un area subutilizada dandole un propósito y programa. Esta área verde (que albergara el tercer Pocket park) tiene aproximadamente 650m2 y estaba originalmente dentro del Tec. Se decidió que la intervención tenía que ser efímera, así que con la ayuda de Mike Lydon y Grupolite decidimos crear una propuesta de Urbanismo Táctico.

Before the intervention the fence was a main border that interrupted the view making this corner dangerour to walk in.
As the fence was removed the sence of the space changed and the sidewalk became more inviting for pedestrian traffic.
Proving that a space could change with little to no money, it was decided that we would only use materials that were readily available for donation or inexpensive to buy.
Low budget material became urban furniture, and a little paint became a sidewalk. As soon as the intervention began people started making use of the “extra space� no available for them.
One of the main concerns was how traffic would react to the intervention. However, the narrowing of the lanes and turn radius helped with the flow of the cars.
With a wider turn radius, the cars respected the signals and were less likely to go or turn right when the red light was on.

The final design consisted of narroving the lanes and painting colorfull sidewalks (marked in purple) with temporary paint so people would use the place designeted for them. Inside the park, there were three areas. The middle part became a stage and open area for games. The side areas became sitting areas that were each served by a foodtruck that parked in a designated space in the widening of the sidewalk.

Providing recreational activities for the people automaticatly transform the spaces in a focus points.
Even is furniture is made of recycled materials, adequate antropomorphic dimentions are essential design factors for successful use of the space.
Flexible space is requires so people hace room to seize the space.
Providing open spaces for artists to showcase their talents atracts watchers and other atists. Entertainment and art are activities that people seek.

SATELITE TOWERS’ SCULPTURE Luis Barragan is undoubtedly Mexico’s most prominent architect. With simple lines and vibrant colors, he embraces Mexican culture. His architecture, beyond everything, is about experiencing. It’s about living the place, evoking emotion and discovering new ways to see where you’re standing. This sculptures purpose was to simplify his architecture and to understand the complicated relationship between the volumes.

Luis Barragán es sin duda el arquitecto más prominente de México. Con líneas simples y colores vibrantes, él adopta la cultura mexicana. Su arquitectura, más allá de todo, trata de experimentar, vivir el lugar, evocando emociones y descubrir nuevas maneras de ver el lugar donde te encuentras. El propósito de esta escultura fue simplificar su arquitectura y comprender la complicada relación entre los volúmenes.
