Isabella Malheiros NOL14439889 Key Concepts in Styling Styling and Promotion Year 1
On my first year and term at London College of Fashion on the Styling and Promotion course I was asked to define style, or better respond to “What is style?” I have to confess that since that the topic was very wide I felt a little confuse and lost on how I was going to translate this in photo session. At the beginning I had many ideas but none of them felt right, I started to not focus on clothes but on faces and people’s personality but it wasn't until I had a talk with some artist, singers and people that I was inspired by that I started to get a better feeling and notion on style so I decided that style was about being comfortable, nor only inside your house (where we can consider it being our happy place) but also outside of it, and so being yourself and accepting it. I found it hard to work on a sketch book and trying to make the ideas that were on my mind work and making proper sense and I believe that this and time management are two things that I need to plan better. I really like my images and the final outcome of it, the two places that the model is insert on represents quite what my idea was and I believe that this was my strong point, I truly enjoy doing the casting, looking for locations and creating mood boards and I liked that I could give people directions. The Style Lab class was also very helpful I felt like it open my eyes to try think and be more creative and experimental but what I didn’t really like on that class was that we had to work on groups quite a lot, not that I don’t like working in groups but I really enjoy putting my ideas and working out there and I believe that this would be a better way for me to grow more, on the other hand working on groups was good for me to talk more, discuss and exchange ideas with people since I am a shy person and being on a group forced me to interact with others. If I had the chance to do all over again I would probably pick another photographer for the bedroom shoot or maybe I would have shoot myself the model just so I had a clear image of what I wanted. I would also look for models in advance instead of last minute. It
was very stressful, I had great options but all of them were busy at the shooting day, I guess next time I would in fact try to be more organized.
