When I was about 13 years old, my English teacher told me that "saudade" was an untranslatable Portuguese word. This event has filled my thoughts for a while now, I have wondered ever since how such a common feeling could not be this easily expressed in any other language. Google translates it to "nostalgia", "longing", "yearning", "missing". these words don't do "saudade" any justice. I have been feeling it all my life and never been able to properly verbalize it. This is my attempt to communicate it. I imagine that viewers of this publication will not necessarily fully understand my intention, but I sure hope they might feel it too. This is an ode to a time that is over, yet very much alive - an interpretation of its presence. this work is informed by and reliant on 60's precedents, combining my admiration and thankfulness for this period. I wasn't there and I miss it. There is much of today that was instigated by that time's originality; change is a 60's child. This is a celebration of that innovation and an "amen" to reinvention.
(Plus, you know something's virtuous when you have "avant-garde" and "bohemian" in the same sentence.)

"saudade" is folloied solitude, it is when the love is not gone yet,but the loved one is. "saudade" is to love a past that has not yet passed, to refuse a present that hurts, to refuse an inviting future. It hurts to feel it. it hurts even more not to.
