Established in 1966, Hong Kong Japanese School has been set up to enable Japanese families abroad to continue their education and to facilitate their children's re-entry into the education system when they return to Japan. Pupils are Japanese and the two Hong Kong campuses follow the Japanese National Curriculum. Most pupils go back to Japan to take the high school entrance exam after completing junior secondary. In 1997, Japanese International School (JIS) is established, which is the international arm of Hong Kong Japanese School (HKJS), providing education in English from Reception to Primary 6. While HKJS caters primarily to the Japanese expatriate community in Hong Kong, JIS has about 158 students representing 18 nationalities. Although English is the medium of instruction at JIS, the school also offers Mandarin and Japanese as foreign language courses. Through a positive learning environment, the Japanese International School respects the diversity of its community and provides quality education by empowering students to think, create, discover, solve problems, become responsible citizens, and achieve their personal best.

MACAU The Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) is a part of China’s territory. It is located on the southeast coast of China to the west of the Pearl River Delta. Bordering on Guangdong Province, it is located 60km from Hong Kong and 145km from the city of Guangzhou. Made up of Macau city and the islands of Taipa and Coloane, the former Portuguese outpost has been gaining momentum for years, fueled by a loosening of regulations. When restrictions on foreign operators were lifted in 2002, new casinos opened in droves as international firms joined the rush, leading to a spike in the number of expats choosing to call Macau home. Now housing about 600,000 residents, Macau has 1 international school. This school is listed in this Guide. For more information, check www.isacchina.com.
