THE NIGHT CIRCUS The night circus is a fantasy novel written by Erin Morgenstern. It is her most recognised novel. The plot of this book revolves around a challenge set by two men with an ancient rivalry for eachother, these men are Mr. A.H or The man in the grey suit and Hector Bowen. Each of them choose an apprentice, marco Alisdair being Mr.A.Hs and Celia Bowen being aswell as Hectors apprentice, his daughter. In the challenge they were to compete against eachother using magic, Celia having a huge advantage seeing as she was born with her powers and Marco had to learn his from scratch. Hector trains Celia by hurting her and making her heal herself with magic, whereas Marco learned the theory of magic woth Mr A.H. Each time the men challenged eachother it took place somewhere different, this time, it was in a circus. Celia and Marco were to create tents and their shows with their magic aswell as keeping the circus running, Celia with her ora and Marco with a firer he must keep going. The circus was all black and white And opened at midnight with the chimes of a clock made by Herr Fiederik Thiessen, the clockmaker and writter of letters. He would talk to Celia with letters while she was iin the circus. He created a sort of fan club for the circus and they would be recognised by a red scarf. Tsukiko was a part of the circus, the contortionist, she also played a bigger part in running the circus and she is important as she always knows more than she lets on.Poppey and Widget Murray are two twins that were born in the circu. They are believed to have magic powers aswell. Their powers have to do with what time they were born. Isobel Martin is a fortune teller in the circus, she also worked for a period of time alongside Mr. A. H and was Marcos lover for a certain time until he found out more about her. 1

STEAM The book that I am going to talk about is titled Steam. It was published in 2013 by Everest and it was written by the American Lea Tobery. It is a realistic and romantic story. It is about a girl called Helena who is nineteen years old and suffered a terrible plane crash. Only she survived. From this tragic event, his life changes completely. Helena, a young woman of a cheerful nature, begins to experience changes of mood, she is almost always depressed, irritable or sad and often feels steamy. Since the accident, its existence is closely linked to a secret. She and her secret are inseparable. Steam begins in the moment when Helena takes courage and confesses her secret to her boyfriend Nathan, who reacts by leaving her. She collapses and feels steam again. She's fed up. Other characters are Hanna, a friend that lives with her and Mr. Rutherford, the owner of the bookstore where for long hours it had become an escape valve for the chaos that lives inside her, Damon, her great secret. The book is narrated in the third person and it follows several perspectives, the main one is Helena, the protagonist. At the same time we also see what happens with the other characters that surround her. That means that her life is not the only thing that has changed, those around her also have to get used to their new way of being and especially their secret. There is one thing I just don’t like which is that to be a secret, they all know it from the beginning. On the other hand I also do not see everything because of what has happened, what is the problem with Damon, with the other characters. From my point of view it is well developed but not in the sense that I would have liked, on the other hand I think that Damon could have gotten more weight, it doesn’t just make everything clear while the other minor characters have more importance. The good thing is that the story is fast to read and is entertaining most of the time, I did not imagine most of the things, but I didn’t like most of the things that happened. I did not know the book but they gave it to me and when I read the synopsis it seemed interesting, the problem comes from the expectations that you imagine and it is that I expected a book much more fanciful than I have found. Nor is it not that I did not like it, it is original, entertaining and the truth is that the story is well constructed but there have also been things that I would have liked more on another way. I liked some elements but there have also been others that have made me think only in an entertaining book, there are characters well described but not necessarily interested in knowing, the story is ingenious but has a development that I don’t has just enjoyed, in spite of being surprising, and in some cases the story made me be confused, although I get hooked on the story and want to know how everything will end.
