Option Subjects Students have already begun one IGCSE Humanities course (either Business studies, Geography, History or Psychology). You will continue to study this subject in Year 10. In Year 10, students will choose two more IGCSE options. The Option Courses allow you to build on your strengths and interests, but it is still important that you follow a balanced curriculum. This will give you more opportunities when you come to make your Post-16 choices. Students will be introduced to the Option choices during lessons between the 8th and 12th April. Final Option selections will be completed online, on Friday 12th April. Choosing your new option courses should be done carefully. Parents have the opportunity to join one of two workshops on IGCSE options  Friday 5th April at 11am in the ISB theatre  Monday 8th April at 5pm in the IB Workroom Here are some guidelines: You should:  talk to your parents, form tutor and teachers  read the information given about all the subjects in this booklet carefully and ask if you need to know more.  think about what you are good at and what you feel you will enjoy.  opt for a balanced range of courses to keep open future careers and study options.  be realistic about your abilities You should not:  choose a course just because your friends may be doing it.  choose a course just because you like the teacher (or the reverse!).  choose a course simply because it sounds easy – all courses require hard work to be successful.

What YOU need to do next… Now you have all the information, it’s time to make some important decisions! You will be sent an online option form which will need to be completed with your parents on Friday 12th April. If, when making these important decisions you and your parents feel that you need to have a personal interview to discuss your options further you could book a meeting with:   

Ms McGhee – the university councillor (cmghee@ac.isb.edu.bn) Ms Snell – the IB coordinator (jsnell@ac.isb.edu.bn) Book a meeting with any of the secondary senior leadership team (secadminmgr@ac.isb.edu.bn)

Graphic Products (DT)Economics Economics is all around us and the IGCSE course teaches the fact from the fiction in the media’s 24/7 coverage of economic issues. It is a science that studies human behaviour and analyses how markets work so that scarce resources are allocated to meet the needs and wants of individuals, businesses, industries, countries and the world as a whole. It is the study of how the world uses what it has to make choices that maximise wealth and reduce poverty.
