ISEGI-NOVA The NOVA School of Statistics and Information Management (ISEGI-NOVA) is an organic unit of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. It is a research based school and the first institution in the Iberian Peninsula to integrate iSchools, an international organization that brings together the best universities in research and teaching in the area of information management. ISEGI-NOVA offers bachelor, post-graduate, master and doctoral courses in the areas of information management and information systems and technologies. Introduction The post-graduate course in Statistical Systems, with specialization in Central Banks Statistics, was developed in a close collaboration between ISEGI-NOVA and the Bank of Portugal in order to endow the experts and managers who work with central banks statistics (either as producers, analysts or users of statistical information) with the fundamental knowledge and skills to the development of their activity. Anchored in the latest techniques and statistical methodologies, the course places a special emphasis on the collection and elaboration of monetary, financial, foreign exchange and balance of payments statistics, as well as any other statistics produced by central banks.

The specific objectives of this course are the training of managers and experts who will be able to:

• Develop data collection techniques and methodologies; • Master the tools and processes used for the storage, organization and access to information in an entity with the responsibility for the production of central banks statistics;

The course is also addressed to all those interested in central banks statistics, particularly employees in statistical departments of banks and other financial institutions, as well as in national statistical offices and other statistical authoritites.

Study Plan The course offers 16 optional curricular units, totalizing 96 ECTS. To complete the post-graduation, students must obtain a minimum of 60 ECTS, corresponding to the completion of 10 curricular units. Students can enroll in a maximum of 12 curricular units, in a total of 72 ECTS.

Academic Calendar and Timetable

Applications and Applicants’ Selection

The course lasts for two academic semesters, with each curricular unit having a lecturing load of two hours per week.

Applications must be submitted in the online Applications’ Portal of ISEGI-NOVA, during the application phase, from 4th of June until 18th of July, in the following link: www.isegi.unl.pt/candidaturas.

Classes will take place after work (after 6pm), two to three times per week, starting in September 2013 and ending in May 2014.

The selection process is based on the analysis of the academic and professional curriculum of the candidates and on an interview.

The post-graduation gives access to the Master in Statistics and Information Management, with specialization in Analysis and Information Management. To obtain the Master degree students must present a scientific thesis or a project work, carried out in the third semester, which corresponds to 35 additional credits.
