More people, more markets
The countdown to the next Integrated Systems Europe begins in earnest with the publication of this, our second annual edition of RISE. As the Official Magazine of ISE 2011, RISE is designed to enable you to make the most of your visit to Amsterdam by highlighting some of the key product launches, new additions to our Education and Conference programmes, and some of the new association partnerships and show features that await you at ISE 2011. ISE is getting bigger every year, so it comes as no surprise that this year’s RISE is substantially bigger than the 2010 edition. As well as adding more pages, however, we have broadened the scope of the publication by interviewing representatives from the trade associations InfoComm International and CEDIA, our Conference partners, and some of the other key figures behind the development of ISE 2011. As B2B event organisers, we are of course delighted to be staging the largest tradeshow ever dedicated to Europe’s audiovisual industry. But all this growth is really a tribute to you – the ISE attendee. It is the ability of our visitors to create more markets for AV and electronic systems technology that has made our event so popular with manufacturers. And it is the ever-growing number and range of exhibitors that enables us to fill the halls of the Amsterdam RAI with more and more professional people every year. We hope you enjoy leafing through the pages of this year’s RISE, and look forward to seeing you in Amsterdam. Europe‘s No. 1 show for professional AV and electronic systems integration presented by

With exhibit space occupying 10 halls of the Amsterdam RAI, more than 700 exhibiting companies and an expected attendance in excess of 30,000 for the first time, there is no doubt that ISE 2011 will be the largest show in the event’s dynamic seven-year history. With Europe’s AV and systems integration industry having emerged from the economic downturn with great resilience, the entire value chain of manufacturers, distributors, consultants and integrators is now anticipating a period of further growth to cement the dramatic gains seen over the past decade. This trend will be reflected on the ISE 2011 show floor, with digital signage, unified communications, home automation, professional audio and green energy management among the many areas of technology showing increased exhibitor numbers over 2010. Between pages 13 and 25, this 2011 edition of RISE throws the spotlight on more than 44 of the new products that ISE exhibitors will be unveiling for the first time in Amsterdam next February. These products span the full range of activities pursued by the show’s attendee base – from sound to vision, residential to commercial, off-the-shelf to bespoke. As ISE continues to grow in size and scope, so the range of business-orientated activities outside the show floor is developing rapidly. Much of this year’s RISE is dedicated to this expanding Conference and Education programme, with features on DiSCO – the Digital Signage Conference (pages 26-27), the InfoComm Future Trends Summit (pages 28-29), and the Visual Communications Summit hosted by Wainhouse Research (pages 30-31). All three of the above events are due to begin on Monday 31 January, meaning that delegates are not obliged to miss any time on the show floor once the exhibition gets under way on Tuesday 1 February. Which is just as well because, as the ‘Highlights’ section of RISE (pages 38-43) shows, there are many new features and partnerships to be found in the exhibition, as well as the latest, hottest technology. Happy reading!

Hitachi debuts three new ‘Ultimate Short Throw’ projectors
MX88 audio/video controller and system components debut from Xantech
Hitachi Digital Media Group has launched three new LCD projectors that deliver the no-compromise capabilities that redefine what customers expect of Ultra Short Throw projectors. The light and compact ED-A220NM, CPAW250NM and the CP-A300NM, named Ultimate Short Throw projectors offer high quality, virtually distortion-free images with a compelling compact design and low total cost of ownership. Available in XGA and WXGA resolutions with brightness levels of up to 3000 ANSI lumens, these networked models ensure straightforward management and, with the new bundled, 6-axis wall mount, are easier than ever to install quickly and precisely. Installation can now be performed by a single engineer at a fraction of the time of previous ultra short throw installations. Upgraded in almost every possible way, the new Ultimate Short Throw projectors come with an optimum throw distance that delivers all the advantages of virtually shadow-free projections, achieving an 80“ (2m) image from only 50cm away (mirror to screen). Throw distance has been reduced while image quality improved and distortions minimised as a result of enhancements to the free shaped optics in these second generation models. New Renovia Powerline whole-home audio system NuVo‘s Freestanding Renovia whole-home audio system provides the most efficient retrofit option for the custom installation industry. Using Powerline Carrier Technology, Renovia offers up to eight listening zones by transmitting audio and metadata across a home’s existing electrical wiring. Eliminating the need to chase cables into walls, Renovia installs quickly for a swift, adaptable, architectural audio solution.
The system starts with a main hub unit, where six audio sources are centralised, which then communicates over the electrical lines to 50-watt zone amplifiers located in each listening area. Simply plug into an outlet, then connect the amp with speaker wire and, if using an on-wall Control Pad, a short run of CAT-5, and the zone is finished. The small (48mm H x 148mm W x 148mm D) zone amplifier is conveniently concealable through placement in a ceiling, cabinet or mounted directly to the wall. It is the perfect solution for quick, profitable retrofit projects, especially when a home‘s construction makes wall-cutting difficult and expensive.
Renovia has several control options, including in-wall OLED Control Pads and a Colour Touch Pad. Add a Music Port (MPS4 or MPS4-E) into the system for control with the NuVo App for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Florian Rotberg, Invidis Consulting
CONFERENCE
digital signage On the eve of the show, ISE presents ‘DiSCO – the Digital Signage Conference’, with one track aimed at strategists and the second at systems integrators The DOOH Business Conference has been a feature of recent ISEs but, in 2011, it will become DiSCO – the Digital Signage Conference. An ISE conference managed by Invidis Consulting and supported by the trade association OVAB Europe, DiSCO will differ from previous ISE conference programmes by offering two parallel presentation tracks. According to Florian Rotberg, managing director of Invidis Consulting, the economic crisis has accelerated the consolidation process within the digital signage and digital out of home industry, forcing market players to rethink their product and solution offerings with regards to customer demand – and this is resulting in a simplification, and therefore a reduction of TCO. The digital signage market is in a state of flux – meaning that last year’s knowledge and understanding may not be a good fit for this year’s challenges. “Most digital signage vendors and integrators claim to know the market,” says Rotberg, “but most of them are too specialised – and they’re missing the big picture. Our Conference will cover new topics which will provide new impulses and directions in thinking for the attendees. Networking is also important. The Conference should be used to make new contacts and to refresh old ones. This is a chance everybody should take once a year during Europe’s biggest AV integration show.” Invidis Consulting predicts that the digital signage market will continue to see growth in the range of 14-20% in the coming years, with Germany, France and Scandinavia showing especially exciting potential. “The market is not saturated and there is much potential out there for information and way-finding systems,” said Rotberg. “Industry marketing and lobbying have brought digital signage closer to marketing and communication departments. But there are threats to today’s players. One of those is mobile technology. Another is that multinational companies with excellent brand recognition are seeing the opportunity and entering the market with great lead generation and a proven sales structure.” For Rotberg, the big theme for 2011 and beyond in digital signage will be pressure on TCO and ROI, and those issues will be central to DiSCO. He also notes new internet technologies, cost-reduced solutions, the death of the on-premise licence model and the future dominance of Software as a Service (SaaS) as important changes in the market. And commenting on the decision to add a second track to the Conference this year, Rotberg says:“DiSCO will have a Best Practice Track (Track 2), where integrators can hear about successful installations throughout Europe. In the main track (Track 1), meanwhile, we will focus on strategy. We will hear about open-source digital signage software, about TCO reduction through standardised media player platforms, about interactive technology leveraging customer engagement, and about streaming solutions as an alternative to store/forward technologies, bringing the IPTV idea to digital signage. The ROI team from the UK will present the latest research results from one of the best-known retailers, and iSuppli will provide market data.” The Business & Strategy Track of DiSCO – the Digital Signage Conference begins at 08:00 and runs until 18:00 on Monday 31 January. The Best Practice Track runs alongside, it, starting at 13:00. Track 1 delegates may switch between Tracks as they wish during the afternoon; reduced pricing is available to those attending Track 2 only. Further information: www.DiSCO-EUROPE.org

CONFERENCE
Fast forward to
Making its debut at ISE 2011, the InfoComm Future Trends Summit is designed to give delegates a one-day overview of the developments that are most likely to shape the business of professional AV and electronic systems integration in the years to come. An established and successful feature of InfoComm tradeshows in the US, the Summit gives delegates the chance to share the insights of some of the industry’s most prominent thought leaders, without missing any time on the show floor – as Scott Wills, InfoComm’s Director of International Education, explains: “In the States we hold the Future Trends Summit the day before the InfoComm show, and we are repeating the formula in Amsterdam by hosting it at the RAI on Monday 31 January. And, since we know people generally don’t like to travel on a Sunday night, we have deliberately given the Summit a start time of 11:00 so that delegates can travel in from much of Europe on the Monday morning and still arrive in time for the opening session.” The Summit will offer five separate topics for discussion plus an introduction from Terry Friesenborg, InfoComm’s Senior VP of International Development, on the evolution of the global market for AV products and services. Wills is reluctant to highlight any one topic for special attention but feels that Joe Bocchiaro’s session, ‘Standards Are Our Future’, will impress delegates with its direct appeal for feedback.
“There’s no credibility in standards if a wide cross-section of people people are not involved in their creation,” Wills stresses. “Joe will not just talk about the industry standards that are coming in and what impact they might have – he will make the audience aware that they can get involved.” Another Summit topic sure to be thought-provoking is Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its impact on the AV industry, a session led by acoustical consultant Bill Schuermann. “BIM is shaking the architectural world,” says Wills. “It’s been described as making AutoCAD obsolete because it allows you to put all a construction project’s materials into a database and essentially troubleshoot the building before it is built. This has huge implications for the AV industry because it shows how different systems in a building overlap. And it will matter all the way through to facilities management as well, because the data stays with the building and can make an important contribution to system maintenance.”
FUTURE TRENDS SUMMIT The Summit’s final session will feature some crystal ball-gazing from Electrosonic’s Bob Simpson, who Wills describes as “our ace in the hole because his passion is pushing the envelope – he won’t just talk about technology trends that we can all see coming, he’ll discuss some ideas that are still a way off but which still cannot be ignored.” Perhaps best of all, the InfoComm Future Trends Summit is conspicuously good value for money, at Euro 225 for non-InfoComm members or Euro150 for members. Those members wishing to use InfoComm EduBucks can save even more, with a 50% discount reducing the price further to just Euro 75 for the day.
“We have given the Summit a start time of 11:00 so that delegates can travel in from much of Europe on the Monday morning and still arrive in time for the opening session” Scott Wills, InfoComm International

CONFERENCE
Watching the world New for ISE 2011, the Visual Communications Summit will address the issues facing enterprises keen to deploy their own rich media communications strategies – and the implications for AV systems integrators Wainhouse Research specialises in gathering information, identifying trends and providing analysis in the Unified Communications, videoconferencing and rich media conferencing markets. For the last six years, it has hosted its annual European Collaboration Summit in Berlin – but this year, for the first time, the Summit (now named the Visual Communications Summit) will run in conjunction with ISE. “We know that many of the people involved with videoconferencing and visual communications in general are also very concerned with AV issues, so joining up with the ISE event makes a lot of sense,” said Andrew W. Davis, senior partner at Wainhouse Research and the conference‘s programme manager. “In today’s business environment, with limits to business travel and limits to how many days people can be out of the office, the co-location strategy gives prospective attendees a strong ‘synergy’ or ‘travel efficiency’ motivation. Travel once – attend two great events: attend the conference and see the products on the show floor.” Davis goes on to note that ISE is a good fit for the European Visual Communications Summit because the success of so many videoconferencing deployments and conference room systems depends on good audio and video: as such, the AV technology that is at the heart of ISE is integral to their success. Davis expects that the Summit will benefit from the presence of such a large number of AV professionals. “However,” he said, “we believe that around half our audience has never attended ISE in the past, so this is an opportunity for ISE as well.” What benefit will Summit attendees get? “Many enterprises are trying to figure out how to move forward, what are the risks and costs, what are the options, and where are the potential returns,” says Davis. “The Wainhouse Research Visual Communications Summit will include indepth presentations on several of the major issues of concern to customers today, including extending the communications spectrum with streaming and webcasting, issues surrounding the engagement with a video managed

services provider, and understanding what unified communications and collaboration are all about. We hope to help attendees make smart, informed decisions about their own company’s rich media communications strategies.” Among the trends identified by Wainhouse Research – and about which Summit participants can expect to learn more – are the increasing participation in the market of giants such as Cisco and Microsoft; mobility, with unified communications capabilities now being extended beyond the conference room; outsourcing the management of unified communications systems, recognising their growing criticality and complexity; and the opportunities for business transformation. According to Davis, those who have attended previous Summits have been equally divided between videoconferencing managers and strategists; channel partners in the AV, videoconferencing, and unified communications space; and vendors, financial analysts, and consultants. “Our scope is broadening because the market is broadening, the technology is broadening, and the customer interests and applications are broadening,” concludes Davis. “That’s why it makes sense for us to be here alongside ISE, close to the professionals who are deeply involved in what is, for many of them, a very exciting opportunity.” To learn more about the Visual Communications Summit, visit: www.wainhouse.com/amsterdam2011.
After five successful years in Berlin, the Wainhouse Summit is moving to Amsterdam to be closer to the integrator community whose skillset is needed to drive greater adoption of visual communications

A new environmental accreditation programme for products and projects will be the focus of attention at the GreenScreen Conference – ISE’s first-ever collaboration with The Screen
What? Where? When?
As digital signage networks proliferate and become more extensive, attention is turning to their environmental footprint. Recognising this growing awareness – and the imperative to address the issue of sustainability – The Screen will, for the first time in conjunction with ISE, host GreenScreen, a conference that will help attendees understand what they can do. GreenScreen will take place on the morning of Wednesday 2 February at the Amsterdam RAI. “It is our aim to bring the initiative to the attention of as wide an audience as possible,” says Richard Cobbold, chairman of The Screen. “ISE is Europe‘s largest professional AV event, and therefore a natural fit for an initiative looking to instil a sustainability framework across the digital signage industry. Pro-AV companies will, in the coming years, be installing many billions of euros of equipment into digital screen media applications, so it’s imperative that we have a credible framework around which to benchmark the green credentials of our technology choices.” Last year The Screen launched a ‘12Step’ programme designed to lay the foundations for such a framework, and it is this that will form the basis for discussion at the GreenScreen Conference at ISE. “Supported by 12 international companies from across the industry, the 12Steps provide the building blocks for the GreenScreen initiative and act as an essential guide to companies looking at getting involved in the digital out-of-home industry,” Cobbold continues. “We will also be hearing from key industry decision-makers from the outdoor advertising community, discussing how the green agenda is affecting their technology choices, plus a couple of key suppliers of next-generation green technology.” The GreenScreen programme offers not only a wealth of knowledge, but also an accreditation opportunity for any products, projects or case studies that align with the ‘12Step’ framework. To find out more and register for the GreenScreen event at ISE, go to: www.thescreen.org/green-screen/index.

A dedicated European Education Advisory Group helps InfoComm International tailor its ISE sessions to local market needs
E D U C AT I O N
A programme for Europe Quality, quantity and diversity are the three themes behind InfoComm International’s education programme at ISE 2011. With over 30 sessions scheduled for 1-3 February, InfoComm International – co-owner of Integrated Systems Europe – is hosting more classes than at any previous ISE, but the sheer number of opportunities available is only part of the story. As Scott Wills, InfoComm’s Director of International Education, explains: “Our education offering at ISE is not created in a vacuum – it is the result of consultation with a dedicated European Education Advisory Group, an open group which we have been running for the past three years and which, we’ve found, offers the best way for us to assess what is desired by the market in Europe. “Members of the Group vote online and anonymously from a range of topics, and we end up taking the top four topics from each of a number of ‘tracks’ such as system design, digital signage, audio and so on. That way, there’s no peer pressure and we avoid falling into the trap of simply adding a class because it is a particular person’s pet project.” As in 2010, the InfoComm education programme for ISE 2011 covers a mix of technology and business topics, and many of the sessions are eligible for CTS Renewal Units (RUs), meaning that attendees take valuable strides toward renewing their InfoComm certification. What is new in 2011 is that InfoComm members can use the ‘EduBucks’ that come as part of their membership package to reduce the cost of taking any class. “All the sessions we are running between Tuesday 1 February and Thursday 3 February are 25% ‘EduBuckable’, so members can make very substantial savings on the cost of the training they take in Amsterdam,” Wills continues. “The Future Trends Summit we are hosting on Monday 31 January, the day before the show, is an even better opportunity with EduBucks counting for a 50% discount off the regular member price.” For the latest information and full descriptions of all InfoComm classes at ISE 2011, go to the ISE homepage at: www.iseurope.org

A natural ‘home’ for re At ISE 2011, CEDIA is broadening the total number of courses on offer to visitors and dou Professional Development, talks about the Association’s training ambitions for ISE 2011 an
What are the objectives with the CEDIA training at ISE this year? As European economies continue to emerge from recession, ISE offers an ideal platform for the industry to re-group, re-focus and lay the foundations for future growth. Training is one of the fundamental enabling components in this expansion. In this era of rapid innovation and change, custom installation businesses are under pressure to evolve and stay in touch with the technological advances that will take us forward as well as the core business skills that will help us develop individually and as companies. With this in mind, we have devised a varied and exciting seminar programme that will give insight across multiple tracks, and that is subdivided into a mixture of free 45-minute sessions and longer, more intensive half-day and full-day paid training.
“We have devised a varied seminar programme that will give insight across multiple tracks, sub-divided into a mixture of free 45-minute sessions and longer, more intensive half-day and full-day paid training” Peter Aylett, CEDIA What free courses will be available to visitors? We’re offering five free courses in total in the ISE Theatre, located in Hall 10. Running on Tuesday and Thursday, Technology and Consumer Trends will highlight the likely future technologies and perceptions affecting the market. On the Wednesday, Commodotisation - From Threat to Opportunity will examine how the commoditisation of previously highmargin, limited-distribution hardware is forcing all sectors of the industry to look towards a more service-driven business model. Later, the HDMI and HD Transport Update will discuss current and future HDMI transport technologies and standards. Finally, in CEDIA Standards and Recommended Practices we will look at how the Association is working with the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) to create recommended practices for the industry. Delegates can find out how these will help them design and install systems which are repeatable, highperformance and profitable. Will there be specialist training available on home cinema design? Yes, as part of the paid seminar programme, we are running our full-day Home Cinema Design Workshop on Tuesday 1 February. This course will examine the standards involved in creating a truly immersive home-cinema experience and give delegates an insight into the importance of designing cinemas using standards based engineering calculations rather than subjective guesswork. This course proved to be one of our most popular courses at ISE 2010.

What other technology courses are on offer? IP and the Ethernet are changing the way products and systems operate and perform, and how they are integrated. To meet these challenges we are offering two specialist courses. Wednesday’s IP For Integrators course will provide a foundation for understanding IP (Internet Protocol), helping delegates to formalise and increase their IP networking knowledge base. Meanwhile, Designing Ethernet Networks will educate participants about the importance of thoughtful network design when coming up with solutions for converging sub-systems onto an IP network. Another practical and popular CEDIA course running at ISE is Understanding and Eliminating Ground Loops. This advanced level course will explain what ground loops are, how they add interference to signals, how to perform simple tests to locate the cause, and how to ‘break’ the loops without creating potentially deadly hazards or legal liability issues. What about content for business owners? On Wednesday 2 February, Building a Functional Organisation is relevant for start-ups and new CI businesses as much as for existing, growing organisations. The course will explore the available markets, processes and strategic planning involved in defining a business operating system. Later that day, a special Maintenance and Aftercare course will identify how businesses can develop a strategy for a recurring revenue stream from their CI installations. On the final day, Developing Profitable Business Processes will provide a high-level overview of business planning, funding and formation, as well as information about developing a corporate culture. What about CEDIA Certification? We are delighted and very excited to bring the CEDIA EST (Electronic Systems Technician) Level 2 examination to this year’s ISE on Thursday 3rd February. For the first time ever in Europe, we are offering this examination in French and Spanish as well as English. CEDIA Professional Certification establishes clear, objective standards for the required skills and knowledge of electronic system designers and installers and is helping to promote professionalism and growth throughout the industry. CEDIA EST2 is the baseline technical certification suitable for anyone with a technical role within the residential CI sector, and represents the first step in a structured certification path offered by CEDIA. The first three hours of the day is an optional revision session to help candidates prepare for the exam which they can sit in the afternoon. An individual who passes the EST2 exam will attain the status of ‘CEDIA Certified Professional, EST2’. A final piece of advice? As you can see it’s a pretty packed programme with lots of choice, but also a limited number of places available. So if you’re a residential custom installer keen to check out the latest home integration technologies as well as seeking to update your skill-sets, then ISE is definitely the place to be. Visit www.cedia.co.uk/education to find out more and click the link there to book your place on the ISE website.

A gallery for new ideas Following its resounding success at the CEDIA Expo in Atlanta in September 2010, Crestron’s System Programming and GUI Design Gallery is coming to ISE 2011. This innovative demo feature provides a unique opportunity for Crestron Accredited Independent Programmers (CAIPs) to showcase their work. Crestron provides each CAIP with identical equipment: a TPS 15L Crestron touchpanel and processor. Using the equipment, along with their own design and programming talents, the programmers develop a custom GUI which is then used to demonstrate the individual CAIP’s programming and design skills. “The GUI Design Gallery is a great way to see programmers’ work in action, set in an accurate, real-time environment,” comments Petra van Meeuwen, Marketing Manager, Crestron. “Visitors and show attendees will gain insight into the complex world of system design and programming, in which programming professionals must ensure their work achieves both technical integration and a creative and intuitive interface to deliver the ultimate user experience.” The Crestron GUI Gallery has become a hugely popular and much anticipated event, so be sure to visit the stand to see the Gallery in action in the Europa foyer of the Amsterdam RAI, for the duration of ISE.

tries,” says KNX director Heinz Lux, “so it makes sense for us to be even more visible at ISE. It’s important to know that KNX isn’t just a standard for controlling HVAC, blinds, lighting and so on – it also allows the control of AV equipment, and the integration of the entire home. As such, ISE is a natural place for the KNX Association to be.” According to Lux, KNX stands for high product quality and guaranteed interoperability. The current focus of the Association and its members is on ensuring energy efficiency in houses as well as commercial buildings. KNX is also increasing its activity in other application areas such as LED technology controlled by KNX, and KNX control via iPhone, iPod, and iPad apps. “By becoming a KNX member, manufacturers boost the image of their products and company internationally,” Lux concludes. “They get free access to KNX know-how and KNX services, while resellers and integrators can add real value to their offering by taking advantage not only of what KNX can do, but also the widespread recognition it has in the end-user community.”

Build your business with CEDIA As the market for residential custom installation expands across the continent, being able to demonstrate CEDIA membership is a powerful sales and marketing benefit – so says Marc-Etienne Huneau, owner of French design and installation company DSR and International Membership Chair of CEDIA. It ensures that professional businesses who stay up-to-date with the new technologies and business practices taught in the CEDIA curriculum can promote themselves as clearly better than nonCEDIA competitors and electrical contractors. As co-owner of ISE, CEDIA always has a prominent role to play at the Amsterdam event, and the 2011 show will be no exception. Visitors to the CEDIA booth at Stand 1M66 will be able to discuss the benefits of membership with both professional staff and existing members, and Huneau stresses: “The Association’s aim is to advance home automation and systems’ integration by demonstrating its benefits and promoting excellence in the profession. To this end, membership (renewable annually) provides a range of advantages to companies that help can help them develop their employees and grow their business successfully. “First and foremost, CEDIA provides a quality education programme. This CEDIA training programme is specifically tailored to the residential custom installation market and adapted to fulfil training requirements at all
levels, from absolute beginner to advanced and experienced professionals.” But the Associations’ activities do not begin and end in the classroom, as Huneau explains: “CEDIA can also help you sell to architects, interior designers and other specifiers. The CEDIA course ‘Designing Integrated Future-Ready Homes’ is tailored to these audiences as an introduction to the smart homes sector. CEDIA members who have completed CEDIA’s training session for teaching this course are then able to present it to practices in their own territory. In France, eight CEDIA member companies recently attended this course and are now actively talking to these audiences about smart homes, integration and the importance of using a CEDIA member.”

Fall in love with digital advertising There are few participants in the digital signage industry who haven’t heard the mantra “content is king”. But, says Richard Cobbold, chairman of The Screen, that’s changing. “The market‘s moved on,” Cobbold says. “Obviously, content is key - but successful content is about reaching an audience and in the digital signage market, it’s all about relevance, dwell time and format. So now, we talk about ‘the audience is king’; that means content has to work seamlessly with technology and its environment to create compelling and engaging experiences.” To demonstrate the point, The Screen is, in conjunction with ISE, hosting LoveContent, an exhibition of digital signage content that will run in Hall 10 throughout the show. “The digital signage industry may well be built on technology, but it is 100% dependent on great content to succeed,” continues Cobbold. “Manufacturers need to engage with the creatives in order to drive the next stage of the industry’s development. The better job we can get
them to do, then the higher the media values will rise, which in turn will ultimately encourage more investment in infrastructure and technology.” According to Cobbold, visitors to LoveContent will see a gallery space that showcases the very best of the campaign content that is being created around the world. Applications that are delivering the most value and generating the most significant creative spend will be highlighted, and some exciting new display technologies will be featured. “It’s critical to recognise the value that good content adds to our products, our applications, our markets and our bottom lines,” concludes Cobbold. “For too long, technology providers have sat back and not thought about how their products are going to be used. Equally, the creatives often haven‘t known what can really be achieved. LoveContent aims to bring both parties together for their mutual benefit.” For more information visit: www.lovecontent.org

Take your InfoComm CTS test – without leaving the RAI! For the first time at this year’s ISE, InfoComm International is offering attendees the chance to take CTS, CTS-I or CTS-D exams in a controlled environment – without having to leave the tradeshow venue. With so many InfoComm education classes now available on-site at ISE, and so many manufacturer-led sessions now accredited to provide CTS RUs (Renewal Units), there has never been a greater focus on the AV industry’s most internationally recognised set of certifications. So what better way of rounding off your ISE education experience than by endeavouring to gain certification yourself? Scott Wills, InfoComm’s Director of International Education, says taking any of the three CTS tests will be a straightforward process. “The exams are computerbased, and we will have a private room set up at the Amsterdam RAI that will be dedicated to testing,” Wills explains. “The room will be located in the same building

A centre of excellence for audio professionals across Europe A first time exhibitor at ISE in 2011 will be ISCE – the Institute of Sound and Communications Engineers. Founded in 1948 and headquartered in the UK, ISCE says its participation in ISE is a result of growing awareness of, and interest in, the show. “ISCE‘s mission is to raise professional and technical standards in the professional audio industry, and many of our members are in the AV sector,” says ISCE’s Ros Wigmore. “But ‘audio is audio’, and the same technology underlies all its applications, such as AV, voice alarm and sound reinforcement and reproduction.” “There are few exactly similar professional bodies to ISCE outside Great Britain, so ISE represents a great opportunity to increase our overseas membership. We hope to enhance the image of ISCE as a specialist professional body and introduce it to a very large and impor-
tant new audience – and we hope to increase membership and extend our activities into other countries. “Beyond that, we hope to meet all sorts of people who are engaged in the professional audio industry, from students to consultants, manufacturers, contractors and installers. We also hope to meet people from other disciplines with whom our members interact, such as architects, building services engineers and owners, and prospective owners, of sound systems.” At ISE, the ISCE will be presenting its wide range of information based on its Engineering Notes and Training Notes. According to Wigmore, the benefits of ISCE membership are similar to those of any collegiate body. Members interact through training courses, seminars and networking. The Institute also sends representatives to British and interna-
tional standards bodies and many of them make substantial contributions to the resulting standards, which are of great importance, both technically and economically. “ISCE actually has an influence for good in this area of activity,” concludes Wigmore, “which is very large indeed, considering its relatively modest membership.”

“ISE is a major launching ground for products in a marketplace that continues to grow and develop, so visitors can’t be sure what exactly they’ll be seeing from one year to the next. At ISE 2011, I’m looking forward to seeing something I haven't seen before, that will take my breath away. Whatever this new product is, I suspect it will have an element of IP capability, visual display, maybe signal distribution or…it could be something else entirely!”
“I’m sure that ISE will be, as usual, the exhibition to see new products, technologies and trends for the months ahead. But we have seen more and more Italians coming to the show every year, so I also think the next show will be an opportunity for the Italian community at ISE to meet, discuss new ideas, talk about technologies and engage with the media, as well as with the major players in the international market”

The challenging thing about standards is there are so many of them. Which is why the Vista URS-1680 is so special - feed it almost any source in any format, and it routes it to any output display. No fuss, no bother, no scalers, no transcoders, no aspect ratio converters. Just the signal you want the way you want it, from composite analog 480i to digital 4K. You choose. With sixteen inputs and eight outputs its appetite for solving even complex conversion problems is exceptional. And it handles keying, layers, HD and all common stills formats all in one, compact, box And still be hungry for more.
FEED IT ANYTHING.
