BAL ANCE Autumn and winter are just around the bend. Are you also imagining cosy indoor get-togethers set in the soft glow of hearth fire, or spending quality me-time on a lazy Sunday afternoon? That feels odd to write after all the time we spent in lockdown. But it’s the truth. I look forward to rediscovering life indoors, now that it is a freedom and not an obligation. Over the summer, we did our best to catch up with what we missed, filling our calendars to the brim with family and friends we hadn’t seen in ages. However, that actually came with mixed feelings; some of us badly missed those empty calendars and planning days mindfully without the pressures of the outside world. The autumn and winter months promise to give us the time we need to recentre and restore balance to our lives. Balanced – that’s also the feeling I get with the new issue. Romantic blouses and dresses are counterbalanced with cool trousers in leatherette and winter coats. And there’s another kind of equilibrium, namely the time spent on your own – uninterrupted – sewing beautiful clothes, compared to wearing them after in cheerful company. We also expanded the Fibre Mood range a little this October, with the addition of ‘James’, our first new men’s pattern in two years. James is a simple, longsleeved T-shirt, free to download from our website. It is perfect for all our Sew Bros ready to take their first sewing steps. And in January, there will be five new men’s patterns to follow – for beginners and more advanced Sewist(a)s. So, bring on that indoor time. We’ll spend it together in harmony.
