Safe Mothers and Newborns Accelerating the Reduction of Maternal and Neonatal Mortality: A Leadership Workshop
WHAT: “Accelerating the Reduction of Maternal
and Neonatal Mortality: A Leadership Workshop” will provide participants from high-burden countries with the technical knowledge and leadership skills they need to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. Participants will gain knowledge on: • Main determinants and global trends in maternal and neonatal mortality. • Evidence-based interventions for improving maternal and newborn health and survival, and potential delivery platforms. • Available metrics for monitoring and evaluating progress, and indicators for assessing the quality and coverage of maternal and newborn health interventions. They will also develop and strengthen: • Problem solving and analytical skills needed to lead, design, implement, evaluate and improve policies and strategies in the countries where they work. • Effective leadership and programme management strategies to scale-up interventions and successfully reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.

from countries with a high burden of maternal and newborn mortality who have proven experience in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health and current responsibilities in the health sector. *Nationals from any of the so-called Countdown to 2015 countries: i.e. the 75 countries where more of than 95% of all maternal and child deaths occur, including the 49 lowestincome countries. We are able to admit 30-35 participants into the 2017 workshop.
