San Pedro Springs has been a staple in San Antonio for hundreds of years. What started as a water source and landmark for the community has, over time, turned into a forgotten park that no longer serves the public. This project aimed to rejuvinate the park by introducing a revenue generating business that would revitlaize the area and bring purpose to the park once more.

The site, San Pedro Springs Park, is located just north of downtown San Antonio. It is focused around a pool which is provided water by the natural springs. The park is bordered by a residential district and a college campus. Due to these conditions, the goal of this project was to design a building which would service the students, as well as residents of

Urbino Art Gallery

LOCATION : URBINO, ITALY SPRING 2024 SEMESTER: ADAPTIVE REUSE TYPOLOGY: TEAM

Urbino is a small Renaisance town in the Marche region of Italy. During a three month study abroad trip there, my team and I did a project for the local Art Academy, aiming to design new spaces for the students to showcase their art.

The project consisted of an outdoor extension in the form of a small art gallery and entryway, two interior gallery spaces, a courtyard common area, and repurposing multiple classrooms for specific art mediums.

We worked in collaboration with the Archdiocese, Governor, and Educational faculty to produce a result that was respectful to the existing buildings and city while also giving it new life and purpose.

VIEW OF INTERIOR GALLERY

Palimpsest refers to a material that has been layered upon by new writing or information, while still leaving traces of the original layer. This is the essense of a Renaissance town such as Urbino. The town and its buildings have been expanded over time in layers which form what is there today.

The aim of this project was to take this idea of palimpsest and incorporate it into a newly built art gallery and interior rennovations. The approach we took was to define planes and lines directly from the site and utilize them to construct a modern form that is sculpted from the site.
