FORM & LANGUAGE : By using a single material for the manufacture of the furniture pieces the idea behind the design is as the name suggests a basic extrusion of a given line. The lines are conceived in elevation and then extruded to provide a 3 dimensional form to the 2D line. The furniture pieces in the Line Extrusion series are made of 3/4� Birch plywood. All the design are consistent in height and use the famous 20 point biscuits for joining two sides. PERFORMANCE : The series are essentially small scale table placed either at the bed-side or used as a coffee table/side table in a living room or any other social space such as balconies and porches within a residential setting. Having said this, the furniture pieces can also be kept in public spaces such as cafes, book stores etc. Furthermore, with flexibility in terms of its location, the fact that they are line extrusions allows the user to use the furniture piece in 2 or 3 different positions as well. Thus, the series provides variety in form and utility. AESTHETICS : The project explores small scale furniture pieces to understand its purpose within a larger setting. The series is develped keeping in a mind a minimalistic aesthetic with simple geometry, the turning points having subtle curvatures and the fact that they are all made of Birch plywood.

LEARNINGS FROM THE MOCK-UP JOINERY : The series can be easily made by one, by the use of a saw machine and a routing table machine for the curvature. But while making it one must be mindful of the direction of the grain of the plywood. The direction of the grain determines which edge would achieve a smooth rounding while working on the routing table for the curvatures at the corners. While cutting the sides on the saw-cutting machine, add an inch to the actual dimensions stated so that there is enough room while used on the routing table and later when the sides further smoothened by using sand-paper.
