Mr. Doyle spent the afternoon looking around the property and fell back in love with the island he had visited in his youth and decided he needed to own the Somerset property and restore it to an “ultra-luxury” cottage colony. Mr. Doyle has hired local developer, Kevin Petty and Moongate Resorts, to develop and manage the property. Kevin Petty is the owner and developer of Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa that opened in 2008. In the early 1950’s the first cottage colony was built in Bermuda. Lantana was a family owned resort that quickly became renowned for its immaculate gardens, Sunday brunch, luxurious accommodations, and wonderful water ski shows. In 1998, after almost 50 years of operating the resort, the family felt it necessary to close Lantana and it has remained unoccupied……Until now! Lawerence Doyle, a U.S. hedge fund owner, arrived in dockyard on a cruise ship three years ago with his mother and stumbled across the overgrown Lantana property after renting

Clearing the buildings and the overgrowth started in December 2009. All the endemic plants have been kept in place as have the butteries scattered across the property, original pathways and some Bermudian walls. All of the buildings have been removed, apart from one cottage that has been renovated and is used as the discovery sales center. Plans for the 28-unit cottage colony with a swimming pool, beach, waterfront restaurant, croquet lawn and conference rooms have been filed with the Department of Planning. Once the necessary approvals have been granted then construction will begin.

Ms. Raynor also had the opportunity to work with the company’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Mary-Claire Havas during which Ms. Raynor said, “I’ve really enjoyed my work experience, especially when it comes to marketing real estate and how important the way you advertise to target audiences can be.” Ms. Raynor will spend her summer “just relaxing” before she heads off to the University of Western Ontario in Canada this August where she will study Marketing and Resources. “I’ve gained real-life situations to use on-hand from working here,” affirmed the 17 year-old Southampton resident. When asked what Ms. Raynor is looking forward to, she smiled “Working with Rego in the future.”
