Larena Mayor inspires, vows strong support to PNP, other nat’l programs by Rizalie Anding Calibo SIQUIJOR, Aug 19 (PIA)—Larena town Mayor Dean Villa vowed support to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the programs of the national government. In his message during the blessing and ceremonial turnover of motorcycles at Siquijor Police Provincial Office, the mayor assured the PNP of his strong support and commitment to the men and women in uniform. “I will always say that whether local chief executives are given or stripped off of police power, I will always stand committed as your partners,” he said. Villa was the Guest of Honor and Speaker in the event where at least eight motorcycles with complete gears were turned over last week to the Siquijor Police Provincial Office (SPPO) and its six police stations provincewide. The blessing was made at the SPPO ground in LARENA MUNICIPAL MAYOR DEAN S. VILLA Caipilan, Siquijor, Siquijor officiated by Siquijor Parish Priest Leonilo Torres. Villa also challenged the police officers to uphold the law amidst operation on the illegal drug fight. DOST Siquijor turns over PhP3.6M to tech upgrading clients

GL Motors on the other hand received PhP2,299,700 for its “Upgrading the Blasting and Machining Te c h n o l o g y f o r S h i p B u i l d i n g . Prior to the turnover ceremony, the beneficiaries were oriented on the proper utilization of the fund. They were reminded to adhere to the contents of the notarized Memorandums of Agreement which were signed by the

agency and their respective enterprises. The beneficiaries were also required to submit 36 post-dated checks for the monthly rental of equipment which is equivalent to the total amount of assistance and one post dated check (PDC) as payment for option to purchase which is 0.5% of the total Capital Outlay. The assistance is part of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) of the agency, a nationwide strategy to encourage and assist MSMEs to adopt technological innovations to improve their operations and boost their productivity and competitiveness. For CY 2016, DOST Siquijor PSTC has granted more than PhP6.6 million and assisted 8 firms in the sectors of furniture, ICT, food processing, metals & engineering, and agriculture. DOST-7 invites all grade 6 science, math enthusiasts to apply for scholarship

CEBU CITY, August 22 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) -Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS) invites all Grade 6 elementary students with high aptitude in science and math to apply for high school scholarship. Scholarship privileges to include the following: free tuition fee, textbooks, uniform and monthly stipend. In order to enjoy these scholarship privileges, one must pass the National Competitive Examination (NCE) which shall be administered on October 22, 2016 in selected testing centers nationwide. Deadline for filing of application

for the NCE will be on September 2, 2016. Any Grade 6 student from a duly recognized school by DepEd who meets the following criteria is eligible to apply. Applicants must have; 1) a final grade of 85% or better in Science and Mathematics, evidenced by the student’s report card; if grade is below 85% in said subjects, must provide evidence that he/ she belongs to the upper 10% of the class; 2) be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as immigrant to any foreign country; 3) be born on or after August 2, 2002; 4) have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in his/her Character Rating in his/her report

card for SY 2015-2016; 5) not have taken the PSHS NCE previously; and 6) preferably, be in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program. We are going manual for the Barangay and SK elections, Comelec says The Commission on Elections is reminding the public that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 31 will be conducted using the old manual voting and counting method. “There might be a common perception that the Barangay and SK elections will also be automated since the 2016 National and Local automated elections have just been concluded. We will be voting manually on October 31st. Voters will be using a ballot with blanks where they will write down the names of their selected candidates.� COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez said.
