From the President’s Desk Back to monthly Tower issues! As I write this, seal coating is going on in various locations on the north side. Short-time bother, but makes the roads look nice. Seasonal residents are beginning to return, and hopefully the weather will moderate a bit, both in temperature and rain frequency. There are a couple of dances scheduled this month, including the Halloween event. Costumes and other fun including music by the “Livewire Band”.
We should have Pickle Ball courts (west of the clubhouse) and a dedicated dog park area by year’s end, maybe sooner. (It’s Florida, however, so we’ll see). The above comment about Florida has to do with the problem of getting various vendors to provide services when scheduled. I’ve encountered this problem several times myself, and have seen others have the same issues. I don’t remember this being an issue up north. Maybe it was, but it
never affected me. Hometown has this happen over and over. I just don’t get it. Bottom line for us is for you to turn in a contractor report when you get someone who actually does what they say in a timely manner. It will be added to our list in the HOA office. Not looking forward to added in-season traffic, but that’s more than offset by the return of old friends. Al Wells, HOA President

FISH Flu Time Please join FISH on October 13 to receive your yearly Influenza Immunization. It will be held in the Starlight Ballroom. Bring your Medicare Card and any additional insurance cards with you. The flu shot is free for those on Medicare. You do not have to pre-register, just show up! This year our neighbor at Walgreen’s will give us our flu shots. Try to adhere to the following last name schedule, however if you cannot make it during the assigned time, just come anytime. We will accommodate you!
One very nice thing about Walgreen being our provider this year is that for every shot Walgreen administers means a free flu shot will be given to someone who needs it. Remember to bring your Medicare Card! FISH needs more drivers to be able to have enough drivers when the snowbirds return home. Give a call to Betty Scheetz (609-4779147) or Ginnie Benjamins (239322-9863) to register with FISH. Speaking of drivers, an incident happened recently. One of our volunteer drivers went to pick up a lady to chauffer her to a doctor’s appointment. Our bookie (a bookie is the person who gets the

After pounding on the door the driver called me. I was on my way over, thinking we would have to call the police, when the driver called back. The people from across the street came over when they saw her and told her that the lady had gone to the hospital the night before. I certainly understand that if someone who was getting a ride from FISH has gone to the hospital that they wouldn’t have thought to call FISH. However, this is a reminder about how dedicated our volunteer FISH drivers are, our driver called for assistance. If, after I had not been able to get a answer, I would have first called the Lee County Hospitals to see if they had someone by that name as a patient. If they did not, my second step would have been to call the police. We would not leave until we found out if the

Vote For Smart InVeStment moVeS The presidential election is little more than a month away. Like all elections, this one has generated considerable interest, and, as a citizen, you may well be following it closely. But as an investor, how much should you be concerned about the outcome? Probably not as much as you might think. Historically, the financial markets have done well – and done poorly – under both Democratic and Republican administrations. Also, many factors affecting investment performance have little or nothing to do with the occupant of the White House. Consequently, no one can claim, with any certainty, that one candidate is going to be “better for the markets” than another one. Still, this isn’t to say that any given presidential administration will have no effect at all on investors. For example, a president could propose changes to the laws governing investments, and if Congress passes those laws, investors could be affected. But in looking at the broader picture, there’s not much evidence that a particular president is going to affect the overall return of your investment portfolio. As mentioned above, many factors – corporate earnings, interest rates, foreign affairs, even natural disasters – can and will influence the financial markets. But in evaluating a president’s potential effect on your investments, you also need to consider something else: Our political system does not readily accommodate radical restructuring of any kind. So it’s difficult for any president to implement huge policy shifts – and that’s actually good for the financial markets, which, by their nature, dislike uncertainty, chaos and big changes. The bottom line? From your viewpoint as an investor, don’t worry too much about what happens in November. Instead, follow these investment strategies: Stay invested. If you stop investing when the market is down in an effort to cut your losses, you may miss the opportunity to participate in the next rally – and the early stages of a rally are typically when the biggest gains occur. Diversify. By spreading your dollars among an array of investments, such as stocks, bonds and other investments, you can help reduce the possibility of your portfolio taking a big hit if a market downturn primarily af affected just one type of financial asset. Keep in mind though, that diversification can’t guarantee profits or protect against all losses. Stay within your risk tolerance. Investing always involves risk, but you’ll probably be more successful (and less stressed out) if you don’t stray beyond your individual risk tolerance. At the same time, if you invest too conservatively, you might not achieve the growth potential you need to reach your goals. So you will need to strike an appropriate balance. Forget about chasing “hot” stocks. Many so-called “experts” encourage people to invest in today’s “hot” stocks. But by the time you hear about them, these stocks – if they were ever “hot” to begin with – have probably already cooled of off. More importantly, they might not have been suitable for your needs, anyway. In any case, there’s really no “short cut” to investment success. Elections – and even presidents – come and go. But when you “vote” for solid investment moves, you can help yourself make progress toward your financial goals.

Here we are at the beginning of October. The air should feel a bit cooler, the breeze a bit more forceful and refreshing, after the hazy, hot and humid August days. I love Florida, but I yearn for the fall of New England. My most favorite season of the year, the season that reawakens all of my senses! Currier and Ives captured amazing scenes in their prints, but the true experience is when you are physically standing amidst the autumn beauty that seems to surround you. I yearn for those New England early morning October walks. Those beautiful maple trees wearing their new fall coats of orange, red, and gold, the brisk breezes coming off the ocean, causing the waves to hit the rocks, releasing a spray of salty water that touches you ever so gently on your face. Suddenly your whole being is inhaling and tasting that magnificent salt air …it’s an explosion of senses one can only individually understand. As the month progressed the temperatures would become a bit cooler. It wasn’t a “Jack Frost
nips at your nose” kind of feeling but that subtle reminder to let you know that the cold weather was right around the corner and that you’ll soon need a bit more than a light sweater. By the middle of the month “Jack” is back but this time the hint is not so subtle. Going for a walk? Time to pull out those heavier jackets, hats, scarves, and maybe some mittens, just in case! Those breathtaking morning walks by the ocean would turn into country walks on the weekends. The sensory experience continued…When I think of October in the country I instantly see this one special road, a road that seemed to go on forever and housed at least four huge apple orchards. It wasn’t officially fall until you took a ride to the country and took a walk through those orchards, or attended the Apple Peach Festival each year. If you did nothing else but stepped out of your car and closed your eyes and inhaled, your senses would take you on a marvelous journey. I can’t even begin to describe the delicious smells of the freshly baked apple and peach pies! Each orchard, although in many ways alike had its own

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR By Sue Dunigan Susan Bell 319 San Remo Lane It is always fun to get acquainted with our new neighbors and I believe you will find the Q&A interview with Susan very interesting. She is known to be a delightful friend and co-worker on projects and committees. I am so pleased that Susan decided to share her story with me and I am happy to be able to share it with you. If you do not already know her---you may have seen her walking her two adorable white doggies and been greeted by her charming and friendly smile. As you read the interview below--you will begin to understand Susan has had a very exciting life with her share of challenges and sorrow along the way. Just think, we have a “model” in our midst! 1. When and where were you born?
I was born on February 5 in Honolulu, Hawaii 2. Schooling? My elementary education took place at Admiral Nimitz Elementary School in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. I went to high school in at Spaulding High School in Rochester, New Hampshire. Three days after graduating, I returned to my beloved Hawaii! I began post secondary school at Cannon’s School of Business in Honolulu directly after returning to the islands, graduating first in my class. 3. Your Career? My first working experience after high school was at Pearl Harbor Shipyard but I didn’t enjoy working there, so I applied for a position at CINCPAC (Commander in Chief, Pacific) and began one of the best positions in my entire career. I was responsible for planning all the bases to be set up all over Southeast Asia. This was during the Vietnam War, so I had plenty of work to do from design-

ing the Mess Hall to where the Flagpole would be installed. This Command consisted of all Officers in all branches of the military. I loved working there! I remained with the military while working in Alaska, North Carolina and Texas. It was in Texas that I switched to the Social Security Administration. From Texas to New Hampshire and finally to Southern California where I decided I had found a permanent home. Seventeen years later, I decided that Real Estate was where I belonged. About this time, I became an empty nester and decided to have some fun so I began modeling again. I have been modeling since the age of twelve whenever I could. 4. Marriage and. family? I met and married a Marine while working at CINCPAC. Three months later, I found myself in the freezing cold of Kodiak, Alaska. We had two children in no time! It was cold there! After numerous forced separations, we divorced. I moved myself and son and daughter to Southern California where we found a permanent home. We had a home in Huntington Beach, just a couple of blocks from the beach. They grew up surfing and swimming in the Pacific Ocean. I found the ocean way too cold, so I took up running to supplement my weight training. The children grew up. My daughter married and my son went off to Europe then to San Francisco for college. My daughter had my first granddaughter and I met and married Dino. My son has since mar-
ried and has two wonderful sons. My daughter went on to have two more children, a son and another daughter. The eldest is now 25 years old. I am the proud great grandmother of a beautiful little 5 year old girl and we have another baby girl on the way, due in February, maybe we’ll share a birthday! Sadly, my daughter passed away almost 9 years ago due to colon cancer. 5. When did you move to Florida? Dino and I moved to Bushnell, Florida in August 2014. We intended for it to be a three month layover on our way to our retirement in Panama. Well, I discovered my mother was unable to manage living alone any longer. I’m the only remaining living child of my mother’s, so the responsibility of caring for her has become mine. It was obvious that our plans to leave the country for a retirement abroad were no longer viable so we sold her home and went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for seven months. 6. How did you discovered Del Tura Country Club? We discovered Del Tura Country Club by complete accident. We were having difficulty finding a place to live after returning from Mexico in the middle of the high season. We just decided to look around the area when I met a real estate agent who recommended we look in Del Tura. As soon as we entered the community, I knew it was our new home.
7. When did you move to Del Tura? We became residents of Del Tura in March 2016. We purchased the second home we viewed after looking at a third. We bought our home the same day we first entered Del Tura and moved in the following day. 8. What activities do you enjoy here Del Tura Community? Here in Del Tura, I enjoy going to the gym, taking Yoga, swimming and other fitness pursuits. My favorite activities are walking around the community with my two Maltese babies meeting other residents and riding the babies around in our golf cart. 9. Are you involved as a volunteer here in our community? I volunteer in the kitchen during Tuesday Coffee, I help with decorating the ballroom for our dances, and I’m coordinating the Bake Sale held in conjunction with the Craft Fair in November. 10. Do you have special interests and/or hobbies that you enjoy? I really enjoy going to the gym every day. It keeps me fit, both mentally and physically. I also enjoy children immensely, so I’ve made myself available for volunteer work at the Littleton School. I am sure now that you have learned more about Susan that you will be eager to get to know her and Dino. It is without doubt that Del Tura Country Club is enhanced because they have chosen to live here and to be involved in the life of our community.

FISH Fruit Tree Picking Project The latest update (September 10, 2016) of the Fruit Picking Committee activity: The committee would like to keep the residents apprised of our progress and to give the proper, well-deserved special thanks to our resident fruit donors. Without these donors the needy of our community would not receive the fruit they need to supplement whatever diet they do have available to them. So, to date, (our picking season runs from October1 – September 30 each year) the team has picked 3248 pounds of fruit: namely, mangos, grapefruit, star fruit, tangerines, lemons and oranges. We picked 550 lbs. with 2 volunteers this month (Sherry and Barry). Thanks to you guys – you worked real hard during the hottest summer ever! The fruit was
delivered and distributed to the soup kitchen and was greatly appreciated. We would also like to welcome Walter Dehmel to our list of volunteers – Welcome aboard! This season the residents who opened up their properties for our opportunity to pick their fruit were: Helene Stell, Rita and Bill Immoor, Karen and Dave Toothman, Mary Pimental, Bertie Dugo, Charles and Marlene Troeller, Florence Hammond, Sandy Mulvaney, Lucy and Paul Schaefer, William Smith, Diane and Joe Bevilacqua, Jerry Still, Frank Spinale, Hank and Margaret Zanger, Glenn and Joy Martin, Jessica and Jose Enrique, Marilyn Hanson, Tom and Jan Condos, Mike and Jill Scott, Lucy Schaefer, Dan and Laura Weaver, Fran and John
Baumberger, Donna Brown, Rick and Sandy Morgan, Nancy and Robert Moyer, Isabel Passinger, Carolyn and Bernie Forsey, Suzi Raiger, Carolyn and Fred Brueggemann, Sandy Mulvaney, Dick Roche, Grant and Mable Karpe, Audrey Hopcia and Dorothy and Woody Cook. We’re really proud of our residents for their generosity and concern! Since this report we’ve had more requests to pick residents’ fruit. Keep those requests coming! We’ll report on those, as they are collected. Call Rick @ 5433662 or Sherry @ 567-0538. God bless and thank you very much!

Justin Denbe of Denbe Construction Company, and his wife Libby, hit a rough patch in their eighteen year old marriage when she found out he was unfaithful to her. So tonight they are out on a “date night” trying to restore their prior marriage status. Upon returning home they find their complex security system has been disarmed and believe their fifteen year old daughter Ashlyn is at fault. However, once inside they are attacked with a Taser gun. Their daughter is brought down from her room to the entry way and the “adventure” kidnapping begins. There are three men responsible for this act and they drug their cap-
tives and are extremely rough on Justin. Since Justin’s company is a million-dollar one that builds multi million dollar projects including hospitals and jails the reason must obviously be for ransom. Soon Boston police, FBI, and an investigator whose company is hired by Justin’s company are involved with trying to locate the family. It becomes obvious they have left the state and headed into New Hampshire and their police also become involved. A piece of Justin’s jacket with a GPS sewn inside is found up in the White Mountain area and the chase is on. Meanwhile the family and captors have reached their “hideaway” in a huge prison facility that was

By Oscar Le Cochon True to it’s name, Stevie Tomato’s Sports Page is a sports grill with a flair for Chicago culinary tastes. In addition to Chicago style pizza, thin crust only, Chicago dog’s (yes, Vienna natural casing snappers) and Chicago Italian style beef sandwiches, you will find nearly anything that you might expect from a sports grill. The pizza is adequate but the hot dogs and beef sandwiches are spot on. The baby back ribs are among the best in our area. Watch for the ads in the News-Press or on TV for the times they have the baby
back ribs special, i.e., Father’s Day, a whole rack for $6.99 including French fries and Cole slaw. They recently ran a special for $8.00 . . . just because. Of course, nothing goes better with ribs than an ice cold beer and
there is plenty available including domestics, craft and imported; draft or bottled. The menu boasts all types of pub grub items including chicken wings with your choice of 15
sauces, from hot to sweet. There are burgers galore and sandwiches to satisfy the fussiest of breads with meats aficionados. Lighter taste? Try one of their 10 meal sized salads or pair up a couple of their appetizers. All are good and priced for value. If your up to a full meal or large platter you can chose from snow crab, salmon, the ribs, and grilled chicken. For the beef lovers, think one pound T-Bone steak. With all that selection and all that quality you also get top notch service from friendly experienced servers. And for the best part, there must be 50 large screen TV’s all tuned current sporting events! Oh, did I mention the ribs?

What do “the rules”say about you? 5 ways we relate to rules-&-regulations, and 5 ways to evolve
10/16
By Dr. Nathaniel Dunigan
16
Community living - as in Del Tura - offers many opportunities for support, recreation, safety and fun. And it also results in the necessity of rules and regulations to keep things running smoothly and harmoniously. The psychology of rules - and of how we individually relate to them - is particularly interesting in our setting: an environment populated by folks who are at a mature stage of human development. We have lots of experience under our belts - some of it positive -some of it not - and this experience informs how we engage with a community’s rules, and with each other. Generally, we fall into one of five categories of rule-followers. Can you find yourself on the list below? It’s important to understand where we might be on this list, and then to consider how we can become more balanced—and more understanding of our neighbors, especially of those who fit into the categories that are very different than our own. THE FOLLOWER: Whatever the rules say, the follower does; no questions asked. They would never dream of stepping outside the confines of the regulations, and would be terribly, terribly embarrassed if anyone even thought they would—or if they accidentally did so. The follower will say things like, “We can’t do that,” as opposed to “Maybe we shouldn’t.” Breaking the rules simply is not an option for the follower. THE NEGOTIATOR: If the rule makes sense to the negotia-
tor, they’ll enthusiastically follow along. “After all, it just makes good sense,” they’ll say. Adding something like, “And I don’t mind. I am glad to be a team-player.” If, on the other hand, the rule somehow does not make sense to the negotiator, they will either ignore the rule, or find ways around it. If pushed, the negotiator will eventually comply, but that won’t be their first instinct unless the rule simply resonates from the start. THE REBEL: Needing almost no introduction is the rebel. They might be a happy, life-ofthe-party sort of person or the recluse behind the drawn shades— but the minute that enforcement is threatened, the rebel reacts, digging in their heels and absolutely ready to suffer nearly any consequence rather than oblige— or even appear to oblige. The rebel says things like, “I dare them to just try to enforce that rule,” or “What are they gonna do, sue me?” THE ENFORCER: The enforcer also needs no introduction—and they probably have the front-office and county-inspector on speed-dial. But there are three important things to note about the enforcer: 1) They likely suffers from what Dr. Jane Bolton calls “personal power leakage.” The enforcer, rightly or wrongly, has a sense that their personal power is weak or non-existent in other relationships, and therefore uses the community’s rules as an opportunity to exercise power—and to feel powerful. 2) For other enforcers, it’s just a matter of not having much to do. Their personal theme song might be “It’s a Small World After All.” Little things ap-
pear very large when isolated. 3) The enforcer assumes that everyone else is a rebel at heart, and that even those who appear to be followers will eventually step out-of-line if the enforcer does not remain vigilant. “It’s a matter of principle,” they’ll insist, or “of safety,” and, “Besides, it’s the rule!” THE CHRONICALLY UNAWARE: No matter how many signs might be posted, or how many feathers might be ruffled, the chronically unaware (CU) functions from a place of complete oblivion. It’s Florida, it’s sunny, it’s all good. The bane of the existence of both the enforcer and the follower, the CU doesn’t pay a dollar for donuts, they walk across the golf course, they have three cats, and they never stop at stop-signs, all while waving, smiling, and ready to chat. If you’re not happy about the way you look on this list, here are five reflection-questions that might help you evolve: Which is more important: the letter-of-the-law or the spirit-ofthe-rule? Why am I too-willing or sounwilling to see a distinction between the two? Why am I reluctant to simply be the bigger person—and either let an infraction slide, or step into compliance, or to pay more attention? What can I do to help someone else today—rather than to remain so focused on (or so unaware of) my own surroundings? What are my top-five favorite things about living in Florida? (Mindfulness and gratitude make everything better—including ourselves.)
AGING You know you are getting old when everything on your body either dries up or leaks. One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young. Being young is beautiful but being old is comfortable. Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth... Amen!

Good Timers’ Singles Club News By Joyce Lienert
10/16
“If we could first know where we are and whither we are tending, we could better judge what to do and how to do it.” Abraham Lincoln If you are single, consider joining our group. You can attend a monthly meeting as a guest. The meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at 5:00 p.m. in the Jacaranda Ballroom at the Clubhouse. Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 4. For further information, call Joyce Lienert at 973-6321147. Our officers are Lorna Callan, President; Nancy Skorlinski, Vice President; Deborah Alt, Secretary (November through April); and Joyce Lienert, Secretary (May through October). Joan Whaley has charge of the Sunshine Club
and Ann Boncore runs the monthly 50/50 raffle. Meetings were held in August and September. Despite a small attendance, we all enjoyed seeing each other and discussing plans for the rest of the summer and the fall/holiday season. The following birthdays were celebrated during August: Susan Baron, August 15 and Esther Kuntz, August 25. A birthday luncheon was held at the Pancake House. Lorna Callan made the arrangements. The food was great and the “pie” was free. Great pie! Joyce Lienert made arrangements for dinner at Ruby Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, the last official day of summer. The following birthdays were celebrated: Susan Savitt, September 2; Bea Botterbusch, September 4; Sandra Mosley, September 23; and Peg Gia-
vanti, September 29. We looked forward to the great salad bar and Long Island Iced Tea. A picnic, with hot dogs/ hamburgers, will be held at Del Tura clubhouse pool on Wednesday, October 19. Members will bring the rest of the picnic stuff, including but not limited to potato/macaroni salad, baked beans and desserts. October birthdays for Betty Buescher, October 9; Lorna Callan, October 20; and Barbara Boyd, October 24 will be celebrated at that time. Lorna Callan has been in charge of this event for many years and does a remarkable job. “I’m very pleased about each advancing year. It stems back to when I was forty. I was a bit upset about reaching that milestone, but an older friend consoled me. ‘Don’t complain about growing old - many people do not have
that privilege’.” Chief Justice Earl Warren Joyce Lienert reminded all members that the Home Owners Association (HOA) has a board meeting the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Starlight Ballroom. Yearly HOA dues of $12.00 provide many benefits, including delivery of “The Tower”. It is important to support this association. Dues can be paid at the Tuesday morning coffee or by contacting Doris Meyer at 239-731-1937. Also, the Federation of Manufactured Home Owners (FMO) is an important membership at $25.00 a year. Check out their new website at www.fmo1.org to find out why! Bette EwingChaney is our FMO representative. She is at the Tuesday morning coffee and can be contacted at 239-652-390. Our meetings also include discussions that ensued at the Tuesday morning coffee held in the
Starlight Ballroom at 9:00 a.m. Peg McTernan or Lorna Callan usually provides this informative recap. There were no new memberships during the past 2 months. Vice President, Nancy Skorlinski, is receiving rehabilitation for a broken leg. We all wish her a speedy recovery and looked forward to her return to “Good Timer” activities. Rehabilitation is tough but she has a positive attitude and great stamina. “It will never rain roses: When we want to have more roses we must plant more trees.” George Eliot It is interesting to note that George Eliot was born Mary Anne Evans. She lived during the male-dominated Victorian era. It is thought that her masculine pen name increased the power she needed in order to be all she wanted to be. No waiting for a rain of roses for her.

All I know is that I need you to be with me at all cost. Do not lose your patience with me. Do not scold or curse or cry. I can’t help the way I’m acting, can’t be different ‘though I try. From the book “Coach Broyles Playbook for Alzheimer’s Caregivers.” Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Currently, more than 5.4 million Americans have Alzheimer’s and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this horrific disease.
Unfortunately, there is no known cure for this horrendous disease and it’s going to take people like you and me to participate in raising the money needed to aid in the research for a cure for Alzheimer’s. By Jim Stenzel This is the first of a new column I hope to write for you monthly. I have a number of topics already outlined, but if you have specific questions regarding maintenance of your home here in the South, please relay them to me in person or send to my email: stenji49@gmail.com Do you have a humidistat in your house? Do you use it when you go away? If you answer yes to both these questions, I’d like to share some thoughts and observations with you, based on my experiences since living here in SW Florida. (If you do not have a humidistat installed in your home, you are ahead of the game). First of all, know that many of the top A/C companies in our area are no longer installing humidistats when they install new air conditioning equipment. Although I have not polled any of these companies for specific reasons, my own anecdotal experience provides adequate answers. Humidistats are devices that respond to relative humidity. The purpose of humidistat is to protect your house from excessive humidity and mold formation when you are away, while minimizing the cycling of your air conditioner ($$$). However, given the normal installation of the humidistat, it
is possible that while your humidistat is controlling the humidity of your house, under certain conditions the temperature can run away to well over 100 degrees. In such a situation, the air conditioning will not come on until the relative humidity in the home exceeds the humidistat’s set point. Unfortunately if such a temperature overshoot occurs, the amount of water in the air could get quite high, even though the relative humidity is still not over the humidistat’s set point. This happens because air can hold more water as it gets warmer. Relative humidity is a measure of how saturated the air is with water, and actually can go down as temperature increases. For example, expressed a different way; in a typical 1200 square foot home here in Del Tura, at 78 degrees (inside temperature) and 60% RH, there is about 1 gallon of water contained in the air within the house. In that same house, at 90 degrees and 60% RH, there is 1-1/2 gallons of water in the air, and at 105 degrees and 60% RH, 2-1/4 gallons of water! If you are concerned with protecting your home and furnishings, you should be concerned with absolute humidity, which is the actual amount of water in the air, and is usually expressed in grams of water per cubic meter of air. However, simple and
inexpensive sensors do not exist that can accurately respond to absolute humidity. (As a footnote, the humidistat you have is really more aptly suited to controlling a humidifier in a northern home in the winter.) So what’s the alternative? Bottom line: Keep your humidistat set to the ON setting. This allows your thermostat exclusive control over the inside temperature without regard to RH. Keeping your interior temperature at 78-80 degrees will assure the relative humidity in your home stays in the range of 40 to 50%. This is essentially self-regulating with typical Florida summer conditions insofar as when it is hotter outside, it is normally more humid as well. Because it’s hotter, your air conditioner will run a little more often, in turn drawing more humidity out of the interior air helping maintain a desirable amount of dryness. Yes, it may cost a little more per month in your electric bill, but consider the incremental cost cheap insurance to assure the longevity of your furniture, and to maintain a healthy environment in your home. Consider that once mold becomes a problem in your home… especially if it takes hold in ceilings or walls, there is no practical way of removing it.
German as a Second Language By Wolfgang Weber Classes in “German as a Second Language” are being offered at Del Tura free of charge. They will be taught by a language professional, native speaker. Depending on level of interest, at the beginning there will be one class (60 minutes) per week.
Apart from the obvious benefits of communication while travelling abroad, it is also scientifically documented that language learning delays the onset of dementia! If you have an interest and would like to give it a try, send an email with phone number to: wweber1@comcast.net
Put “German Class” in the subject line. If you can not send an email, you may phone me at 239-5436296. I will contact you after responses have been sorted and a time and place will be set up. Viel Erfolg!!!

By Erv Storma It’s time to start thinking about how you are going to decorate your golf cart, bike or whatever for what we hope will be a continuation of this fun Del Tura tradition. My wife Linda and I have taken the baton to lead this, but we would really love (and need) a couple of other people to work with us to organize and run it. We have complete information from the great past leaders... the “Cousins” and we will try our best to carry on with the wonderful work they have done. The date for this event will be Saturday, December 3. We will begin with a little Holiday get together of some sort before the parade for the participants. We also have some volunteers who will help you connect your lights if you need it, but you will get much more information in the next Tower. Call Erv or Linda Storma at 239-997-9066 to volunteer (or if you have any suggestions). Thank you and Merry (almost) Christmas to one and all!
