FROM THE BOARD ROOM by Lou
“Progress is our most important product”. That was first said by Ronald Reagan speaking for General Electric in the 1960’s. But all progress must have a starting point. Here in Tara Woods our starting point was category 4+ Ian. Much progress has already been made, but much more progress has yet to be done. Your Tara Woods Homeowners Association meets regularly with Community Manager Angi, bringing forth residents concerns and suggestions while offering possible solutions. The minutes of these meetings are posted on your Homeowners website. www.twhoa.net. It is an excellent way to track progress on any number of issues. While we build back better from Ian, we must remember that the very heart of our community is measured by the fabric of its residents. Each of us has life experiences and talents that, when applied to Tara Woods, makes us better each day. We have close to 200 resident volunteers working daily on our behalf. Thank you!! Thank you!! The most valuable gift is the gift of time. Applying some of your time to one or more of our HOA committees pays dividends to you and to our community.
Your entire Board of Directors has successfully completed the FMO (Federated Manufactured Homeowners of Florida) HOA Board Certification training course. Vice President Peter Krilivsky and I met with Community Manager Angi and CERT
(Community Emergency Response Team) members to start developing our plans in the event of another hurricane or other emergency. Some first steps are already in place, and we will be meeting again to further solidify the plans for our community. We need YOUR help. One piece of the pie is for all residents to fill out and submit the 2023 Emergency Registration Form to the Office. If you are full time, please fill out the form now. If you are seasonal, fill out the form before you leave. We learned that this information becomes very valuable in the event of a disaster. You can find the form in the Clubhouse or from any Board member, or at the Tara Woods Office or on your www.twhoa.net website. This is a key part of us being prepared. Thanks for your help.
HEADS UP – Come dance in the street! The third Annual Spring Fling is Saturday, April 15th, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Shiloh Lane behind the Craft Room. It is free! Two food trucks. Karaoke. Fun for ALL! See you there. Sponsored by your Homeowners Association.
DID YOU KNOW THAT – The Clubhouse Ministries meet every Tuesday in the Meeting Room in the Clubhouse at 10:00 AM. Please join them. All are welcome. Any questions, contact Ann Scott at 239-543-2985.

TARA WOODS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION NEWS
As an FMO member you are entitled to receive the FMO Magazine approximately six times a year. I would encourage you to review it thoroughly and become familiar with its contents. It contains a wealth of information from Legal Ease, how to avoid scams, the importance of a living will, and so much more. Please remember only FMO members receive this information.
As your FMO Tara Woods Representative, I receive a list of current and recent members whose membership may have expired. If you are unsure of your membership status, please contact me.
Membership dues are only $25.00 per year or 3 years for $65.00. I like the 3-year deal best. I SAVE $10.00 over the life of the 3-year membership, but, more importantly, I know I am helping the FMO to continue growing and doing all the things that go on behind the scenes.
Once again, by being an FMO member, you can be the first person to know what is coming down the pike. Do not be a mushroom. Get involved. It is your organization and mine, and it works very hard looking out for our interests.
You can join or renew ONLINE at www. fmo.org and follow prompts or fill out the application on the back bulletin board and mail it to: FEDERATION OF MANUFACTUED HOMEOWNERS OF FLORIDA, INC., 222 S. WESTMONTE DR. SUITE 111, ALLAMONTE SPRINGS, FL. 32714. Renters are encouraged to join also.
Questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at stuartberman34@yahoo.com or 239-220-2369.
Thank you for your support of the FMO.

TO SAVE THE CLUBHOUSE MEETING ROOM AS IS OR NOT?
The Statutory Rent Committee continues to follow up with the initiatives put forth at our November meeting with Hometown. A response from Gena Paugh, Hometown’s Regional Manager, was met with mixed reviews.
The internet services and the walking trail appear to be moving ahead, but very slowly, as it will probably be 2024 before we see them as a reality.
The proposal to expand the exercise room in its current building and the other updates to the current Clubhouse blueprint were rejected by Hometown. Gena came back with the following: Take over the meeting room in the Clubhouse and expand the room out onto the Veranda; possibly expand the pool deck along the Lap Pool (which was part of our original proposal); and possibly add some shading to the south end of the pool deck. The meeting room, which would be smaller after the move, would then be located where the current HOA offices are, and the HOA offices would be moved to the old exercise room. If the residents are okay with this, then we act accordingly.
If the footprint of the Clubhouse is rearranged as Gena is proposing, however, many of our Clubhouse activities may be impacted in the future if the Hometown proposal is enacted . Our community is expanding. We
could expect another 200 or so new residents in the next two years, which may impact the Clubhouse availability. We need your opinion as to whether we fight to keep the Clubhouse using the current footprint or just let Hometown make the proposed change and put the exercise room in the current meeting room, move the meeting room to the HOA offices, and move the HOA offices to the old exercise room, thereby disturbing the ambiance and functionality of the Clubhouse, or just let Hometown do what they want to do. Understand that it is Hometown’s ultimate decision. We can only try to influence them. We would ask that you use the Resident Concern Form to voice your opinion. Either pick up a copy in the Clubhouse next to the mail slot and drop your completed form in the mail slot, or go to the TWHOA website at www.twhoa.net and complete the form online. You then have the option to send your completed form directly to Lou.
As an aside, if we reject the proposal by Hometown and are successful in stopping the projected moves, we may lose the money allocated to the community for this project. Please let us know your thoughts.

ENTERTAINING NEWS
First, I want to introduce myself! I am Lesley Krauss (I know, I know, many of you already know me!) and I have taken on the task of doing The Columns monthly write-up for the Entertainers for the foreseeable future (or at least until Pat says, “you’re fired!”).
It certainly was a weekend to remember! The Entertainers put together some great plays for all of you to see on March 10th, 11th and 12th! The first play, ‘Help Desk’, by Don Zolidis, was an entertaining series of skits. Our audience seemed to relate to many of the situations presented by the players! Our ‘Help Desk’ entertainers proved to be not so helpful in many ways. The second play, ‘The Great Nursing Home Escape’, by Nathan Hartswick, was a fun-filled romp by some bored retirement home residents hoping to “escape” the mundane life of the home only to have their plans scuppered! What a wonderful bunch of laughs it was! Many thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s performance, from our cast and crew to the Sound & Lighting team and our ushers and ticket sellers!
Next year’s play is already being looked at by our Stage Manager, Pat Dunning, and our
Director, Janet Daly, and the casting is being decided. That way, cast members who are snowbirds will know prior to leaving for the north and can then take their scripts with them to work on!
Hopefully, seeing these delightful plays, and seeing what fun our group had presenting them to you, might encourage people to try their hand and join The Entertainers next season. Did you know that you don’t need to be the next Meryl Streep or Sean Connery to be a part of our fun troop? We are always looking for people to help behind the scenes too. We need backstage crews, set decorators and builders, makeup artists, ushers and ticket sellers, just to name a few roles. Everyone is welcome in The Entertainers! Just contact our Stage Manager, Pat Dunning, and she will be happy to fill you in!

NEW ENGLAND CLUB
The New England Club held our “Welcome Spring & Sports Night” party on Saturday, March 4th. The fan gear was very present, and it was great seeing so many different teams being worn by Club members. The Club enjoyed Publix subs and some very delicious sides, salads, and desserts made by Club members.
After dinner, we had “open sports games” set up all around the Clubhouse. Congratulations to the following winners: The frisbee toss winners were Celeste Post and Steve Pushee, Baseball top honors went to Ed Malatesta and new member Candi McLean. For pickleball, with near perfect scores, Pat Patterson took home the prize for the men while Sue Hodgson grabbed the prize for the women. Our best golfers of the evening were Becky Nadeau for the women and Jim Choquette for the men. For the football toss Sue Hodgson won for the women, while Richard Binkowski won for the men (thankfully). Congratulations to all the prize winners. Our Battle of the States winner was Team Massachusetts, Captained by Nina Lynes. A valiant (and funny) effort was made by all the participants.
Our Bon Voyage Party will be on Saturday, April 8th at 5:00 PM. This will be a pizza, salad, and dessert party. You will have prepaid $5.00 per person to attend. We’ll have some great games, BYOB, raffles. Hope to see everyone there. ~ Judy

MID-ATLANTIC SOCIAL CLUB
We welcome Tara Woods residents from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and friends from all over the country. Check out our postings on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse for contact information and upcoming events. If you have any questions about our Club, please contact one of the officers (names posted on each newsletter).
“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” encompassed our March meeting. Hats and jerseys represented our favorite teams, and we voted on a new Club president. Judy Brda certainly served our Club well for many years in the capacity of president. Of course, our food and refreshments were outstanding, as usual. We plan to meet casually throughout the summer with “Tapas on the Veranda.” ~ Sue

NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY CLUB
If you have not already done so, mark Saturday, April 22nd, on your calendar. This is our ‘Out to Lunch’ get-together and I know you do not want to miss it. We are just going down the road to The Standard in Sabal Springs.
The restaurant was written up in Florida Weekly to go for a delicious meal. I am getting hungry just writing this. Pick your choice of House Salad with Grilled Chicken, Spaghetti and Meatball, Tuna and Egg Salad with Tomato Slices and Crackers, or a Cuban Wrap with Homemade BBQ Chips.
All meals include coffee or tea. The cost is only $14.00 per person with the club picking up the tax and gratuity. Alcoholic beverages are on your own. Payment is due at time of ordering. Cash or checks are acceptable. Please make your checks payable to the New York/ New Jersey Club.
We will have our own area.
Additional choices are available to meet specific health requirements. All lunch selections must be selected and paid for no later than noon, Monday, April 17th. Changes cannot be made after that date.
Questions, please contact Stuart Berman at stuartberman34@yahoo.com or 239-220-2369.
CANADIAN CLUB
Canadian Club… EH!
Our Canadian Club is growing, and we hope this continues. On March 31st we had a gathering and hosted a “Loaded Potato” dinner, where the membership brought the appetizers and desserts. We got this idea from our fellow Midwest Club.
Our season is soon coming to an end, and already we’re thinking about next year. We will be hosting gatherings in January and March once most of us have arrived. Dates to be determined. We will be communicating a number of ways: email if we have it (send to Lesley at: pklesley@yahoo.ca to be added), on the monthly calendar, The Columns, bulletin board in the Clubhouse, and word of mouth. Sign-up sheets will be in the Clubhouse on the bulletin boards for our gatherings.
Maggie Johnston (snowbird), a new resident in January 2023, has joined in assisting with organizing events for the Canadian Club. It takes everyone doing their part and participating to make our gatherings successful and fun.
Fellow Canadians as well as “wannabe” Canadians for a couple days a year, please join in and help our club be the club to join and have fun. See you all next season! Stay safe and be happy, eh!
Looking forward to seeing everyone on April 22nd. ~ Thank You, Stuart Berman •

TENNIS NEWS
TENNIS ASSOCIATION:
I can’t believe the end of our tennis season is quickly approaching. I hope everyone has had fun at our events and has had the chance to meet new people. We did reintroduce a Pick Your Partner event which I think worked out well, and we are looking to keep that going next year. Don’t forget to let those interested in both Men’s League play and Women’s League play that there are sign-up sheets on the Tennis Bulletin Board. Everyone, have a great summer; and for those driving home, have a safe trip and see you next season. ~
Ed Sandre
OPEN TENNIS
We have had a lot of new residents move in to our Tara Woods community over the past few months – and we are happy that some of those new residents are tennis players! We are also happy that some of them have joined us to play at our Open Tennis which is played every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 9:00 – 10:30 AM. It is always good to see new people on the tennis courts. All skill levels are welcome to join us on the courts. There is no need to sign up to play on those “Open Tennis” days – just show up at the tennis courts with a racquet and a desire to have
some fun. As the “tennis season” winds down, there will be less people showing up for “Open Tennis” but it is still available all three days all summer long. If you have an interest in playing tennis, stop by the courts and check us out.

TENNIS LEAGUES
Men’s League: White Team – Stallions
We have had a great season and had lots of fun playing the other teams in the league. This is a great way to meet people, see other communities, and develop friendships with others. Thanks to all those who came out every week to support the teams; it’s appreciated, and it lifts us up as we are playing. I would like to mention again for those interested in playing next season that there is a sign-up sheet on the Tennis Bulletin Board for the various levels of play.
~ Ed Sandre
White Team – Mustangs
The Mustangs season came to an end on March 28th. It was a season of ups and downs, more losses than wins, but still very competitive. Most matches were hotly contested, with many deuce games and tie breakers. It was a pleasure partnering with the players on this team, giving their all every match. It was a real honor competing
alongside them. The players on the team include Tim Hoch, Ed Malatesta, Cliff Baugher, Tom Cooney, Mark Hoffman, John Darpino, Bill Taylor, John Burke, and myself. A big thank you to our Tara Woods fans for coming out and cheering us on throughout the year; it was so much fun playing tennis with your support. We are looking forward to next season beginning in the fall of 2023. We love representing the Tara Woods community. ~ Roger
Blue Team – Tigers
Rafferty
We finished the season on March 30th with 10 players on our roster; they included Captain Frank Neveu, Co-Captains Andy Hardy and Gene Dickie, Phil Yenrick, Ray Flynn, Tony Pinelli, Rod Dolan, Brian Francey, Don Swartz, and Bill Nothnagel. The season was full of fun and a chance to meet new friends from other parks! Thanks to Frank for his recruiting style throughout the season. Because of his work, we had a sufficient number of players, which made it a fun year! Next season should be easier with more potential tennis players moving in to Tara Woods. There is a sign-up sheet on the Tennis Bulletin Board for next season! Join the fun! ~ Gene Dickie
Women’s League: Women’s Team –
Angels
The Tara Woods Angels are still in first place by three games moving into the second half of the season. We have some tough games ahead, but we are confident that we can continue with our successful season. In the meantime, our captain, Trish Martell, and coach, Dick Heffron, continue to challenge us at practices and teach us skills to improve our games. Three of our last five games are at home, so we hope you can come out and support us. Home games are on Thursdays at 10:00 AM. ~ Mary Sandre
ROUND ROBINS
All four of our Round Robins this season were very well attended. After lots of fun and competitive tennis during the last three Round Robins, we were treated to a great BBQ lunch on the Veranda, thanks to Ed Sandre and Greg Girard. They did a great job serving up burgers and hot dogs (plus chips and desserts) to a hungry group of tennis players. I also would like to personally acknowledge and thank both Ed and Greg, and also Mary Sandre, for volunteering to give up their place on the tennis courts during those Round Robins when we had more players than the courts could handle. ~ Linda
