FROM THE BOARD ROOM by Lou SORROW – Tara Woods lost a true Tara Woods advocate, Frank Millette, to a massive heart attack on March 2nd. Frank helped shape Tara Woods as we know it today. Frank was always there! You name it, Frank was there. Personally, he was a true friend and mentor who helped me navigate with his time, experience and patience through Florida Statue 723 and the many other rules and regulations that cover our particular lifestyle. Always there, always helpful, always calm. Frank was on the Board for many years and served as President of our Homeowners Association. Plus, he did a gazillion other things for our community. We will be forever grateful that Frank called Tara Woods home. Our prayers go out to his wife, Ann, and their children and families. We miss you, Frank. THE CLUBHOUSE main floor and kitchen floor will be completely refurbished starting Monday, April 11th, through Friday, April 22nd. As a result, the ENTIRE Clubhouse will be closed. This advocated HOA major step is part of the plan to bring our Clubhouse to a premier status. We have cancelled our scheduled April 11th, HOA meeting and will resume our regular HOA meetings in September. SPRING is in the air. Take time to enjoy the simple pleasures of Tara Woods – searching out and observing the numerous wild creatures that call Tara Woods home. Walking, biking, riding around our beautiful community to see the different foliage is akin to visiting a nature preserve. Feel it as your blood pressure drops and you are re-energized. HILARIOUS – The Tara Woods Entertainers (the theater group) just completed three performances of She Was Only Marginally Modest. I hope you came out to one of the shows. It was laugh out loud funny. Well done to all! CALL the security gate (239-731-1582) when you are expecting a delivery or

guests unless they are on your permanent guest list. Security gate personnel are on duty 24/7 to help insure only authorized vendors/visitors are permitted on the property. Do your part. In doubt, call the security gate and inquire. DON’T BE LEFT OUT – join our Homeowners Association (only $15.00 a year). See Barbara Werner-Lubich or any Board member and keep up to date including full access to our www.twhoa.net website to enjoy when you are here or when you are up north. DID YOU KNOW THAT - ALL are invited to join us for our HOA sponsored Annual Spring Fling – Dancing in the Street on Sunday, April 3rd. It will be located behind the Ceramic Building on Shiloh Lane. Food will be available for $10.00 for sloppy joes or a hot dog with coleslaw, chips, pickle spear, soda, and dessert. Come enjoy the DJ, plus try your hand at Karaoke and join the line dancers as they take over Shiloh Lane showcasing their expertise. Bring your chairs, your tables, BYOB, and enjoy an early evening 4:00 to 7:00 PM with your fellow residents. Lou Dunning, President 239-240-5847, loudunning2@gmail.com

LIBRARY HOURS The Library in the Clubhouse will be open normal days and hours: Monday through Sunday 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM

The following is an article from the FMO Watchdog. Today the Legislature took final action on CS/CS/HB 837 and passed the bill 37-0. Earlier this week the House passed this bill 117-0! The bill extends our Program for 10 years. Our Senate bill sponsor, Senator Ed Hooper (Palm Harbor), filed CS/CS/CS/SB 578 and worked it through all three Committees. After action in the final Committee Monday night, February 28th), there was a small delay while the amendment was incorporated into the body of the bill. The Senate Bill was placed on the Special-Order Calendar for floor action. In the meantime, the House Bill by Representative Matt Willhite (Wellington), had passed through the final Committee last week and was placed on House Special-Order Calendar Tuesday, March 1st. There were no changes, and the HB was considered for House final passage on Wednesday. There were procedural activities which concluded with the Senate vote. At this writing, there is still hope that some

additional, one-time funding will be put in the budget and applied to the more than 44,000 homes on the wait list. The Mobile Home Tie-Down Program will be administered by Gulf Coast State College beginning July 1st. Tallahassee Community College has assured me that the transfer will be as smooth as possible. They want to continue to be supportive of the Program in this way. As soon as possible after the budget is finalized, FMO will reach out to TCC to offer outreach and assistance. The FMO was truly the primary (read that, “only”) push behind this bill to get it through the legislative process. The Program has assisted so many homeowners and will continue to do so. Next stop is the Governor’s desk, and I spoke to his Office of Policy and Budget earlier. FMO President Ron Grove gave the Governor’s Office some feedback. Stay tuned…FMO is working for you! Thank you. ~ Stuart Berman

A MINUTE WITH THE MANAGER Spring is in the air! It is hard to believe that our northern residents will be heading home soon. It has been a great season getting to know so many of you. I’m already excited for your return in the fall and for you to see the continued progress we will be making over the coming months. For those who do not stay all year, please be sure to our Office know that you will be leaving for the season, and provide us with the contact information of who will be tending to your lot and looking over your home site while you are away. A few housekeeping reminders about buttoning up before you depart: • Have your home pressure washed prior to your departure if it is in need – I hate to have to call you up north and for you to have to make these arrangements from a distance. • Let our Office know that you are departing – who will look after your home, who will be tending to your trimming and, most importantly, who we contact in the event of an emergency if we cannot reach you directly. (We have a fillin-the- blank form available in the Office, in the Library, and on the TWHOA website). • Be certain that you have left nothing out that can blow off in a storm. There should be nothing loose left outside of your home – this includes lawn furniture, BBQ grills, etc. All of these things can create immense damage in a

hurricane – and hurricane season will be upon us soon. The Clubhouse will be on complete lockdown from Monday, April 11th, through Friday, April 22nd, for the terrazzo floors to be restored. I realize this may be inconvenient, as no meetings or gatherings may happen at the Clubhouse during this time. We do apologize for the inconvenience; however, I have no doubt you will LOVE the end result! In the meantime, please get with Janet Daly if you need to reserve the pool or the Veranda. Please know – this will also mean that we will not have the music piped to the pool during this time – as we cannot access the area behind the stage to manage the operation of the equipment. We have ordered all new furniture and décor for the Piano Room in the Clubhouse – I’m excited to see this room all come together with a more updated look. I hope you all love it as much as I do – Deb Objartel did a spectacular job of putting this all together for us! Have a great April. For those traveling, we wish you safe travels! Until next time – be kind and love one another! ~ Angi Cummins Community Manager

FROM THE SCHEDULER As most of you have heard by now, the Clubhouse will be closed from Monday, April 11th, thru Friday, April 22nd. This is a total shutdown of the entire Clubhouse, including the Kitchen – no ice will be available. The calendar in this issue of The Columns reflects this, so all Clubhouse use is suspended during those two weeks. If all remains on schedule, it will reopen for Saturday Morning Coffee on April 23rd, with a shiny, refurbished floor to greet us! As we start preparing for the fall/winter season, it is time to get your Clubhouse reservations filled out and given to me, if you haven’t done so already. This includes reservations from September 1st, 2022 to August 31st, 2023. Reservations include the use of all venues available for community use, i.e. picnic area, parking lots, etc. There is an added sheet to the reservation form that you must sign for Hometown America. This Clubhouse Rules and Regulations Request form is attached to the single use request form and to the multiple use request form. This form is also available as a separate sheet if you’ve already turned in your Clubhouse Request form to me. The form can be returned to me along with your Clubhouse Reservation Request. Every time you fill out a Clubhouse Reservation Request form, you must sign this additional form. This form will also be on the website and sent to me along with your reservation request. The Tara Woods Office is required to have these forms on file to show that those using the Clubhouse are aware of Hometown’s Rules and Regulations. Please join me in cooperating with this request from Angi. Thank you. ~ Janet Daly, Scheduler

TARA WOODS CERT, INC BY-LAWS Article I. Name of Organization The legal name of the organization shall be known as Tara Woods CERT, Inc. CERT is an acronym for Community Emergency Response Team. Article II. Purpose The purpose of the organization shall be: 1. To respond and assist after an emergency or disaster affecting the Tara Woods community or other communities in the North Fort Myers area or other areas as requested by North Fort Myers Fire District (NFMFD), 2. To conduct outreach which increases community awareness of disaster preparedness, 3. To educate residents of Tara Woods in disaster preparedness and response and related subjects. Article III: Organization Tara Woods CERT, Inc. has been incorporated as a Non-Profit Corporation with the State of Florida. Tara Woods CERT, Inc. exists solely under the auspices and sponsorship of NFMFD or its successor organization and may be activated in an emergency or disaster by NFMFD or its successor organization. The members of Tara Woods CERT, Inc. shall adopt this set of By-Laws to assist in carrying out the purpose of the organization. Any member may request revisions to these By-Laws by petitioning in writing to the Officers in accordance with Article VIII: Amendments. Any net earnings or remainder of dues or donations shall be used for the benefit of the organization and not any member, officer, or other private person. Tara Woods CERT, Inc. will be overseen by officers to be elected at a member meeting to be held in January of each year. Article IV: Membership There shall be three (3) categories of membership: 1. Full Members – These are Tara Woods residents who have achieved CERT certification by completing basic CERT training, both face-to-face and online courses, as required by NFMFD, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), their successor organizations, or comparable organizations in other regions of the U.S. Proof of completion of all requirements must be submitted to the Vice President of Training before Full Membership is granted by the Officers. Full Members will be entitled to vote at meetings of Tara Woods CERT, Inc., with each Full Member having one (1) vote, and can serve as officers. 2. Inactive Members – These are Full Members who have not satisfied the activity requirements specified in the second paragraph in this Article during the previous official year. The Secretary shall report on any Full Members who have not satisfied the activity requirements at a January meeting of the officers. The officers shall consider the status of each Full Member included in the Secretary’s report. Approval by the majority of the officers shall be required to change the status of a Full Member to Inactive Member. The Inactive Member shall have no privileges of a Full Member, including voting rights. Once the Secretary has certified that the Inactive Member has satisfied the activity requirements, the officers shall consider restoring the Inactive Member to Full Member status at the next meeting of officers. 3. Associate Members – These are Tara Woods residents who have not completed CERT training but agree to do so within one (1) year of becoming an Associate Member. Associate Membership is limited to one (1) year. The Officers may extend Associate Membership if training is delayed due to actions by NFMFD or FEMA, a disaster, or for other reasons deemed acceptable to all of the Officers. Associate Members may not vote at meetings of Tara Woods CERT, Inc or serve as officers. Every Member is expected to actively participate in a minimum of six (6) activities or meetings within an official year. These activities may consist of attendance at Membership Meetings, successful completion of training classes or exercises, or other activities deemed appropriate by the officers, and may include activities with other CERT organizations which are certified by that organization. Failure to achieve the minimum number of activities during an official year will be referred to the officers by the Secretary. The officers will consider placing the Full Member on Inactive Member status. The decision of the officers may be reversed by the officers once they determine the Member has satisfied the requirement of a minimum number of activities. If the Member continues not to satisfy the minimum number of activities during the next official year, the officers may consider expulsion of the Member from Tara Woods CERT, Inc. Annual dues, if any, may be imposed on members at the discretion of the officers. Initial imposition of annual dues and the due date for payment requires notification in writing to all members in advance of the meeting at which it is to be proposed. Acceptance requires approval by a simple majority of Full Members present at that meeting. Dues for Associate Members, if imposed, can be no more than half of the amount of annual dues imposed on Full Members. After the initial imposition of dues, subsequent dues amounts and the due date for payment are to be set annually by the officers. Any increase in annual dues which exceeds 25% requires approval of a simple majority of the Full Members. A Member may resign from Tara Woods CERT, Inc. by sending written notice to the Vice President of Training and the Secretary. A membership will lapse and be automatically terminated if 1. the member no longer resides in the Tara Woods community, or 2. the member fails to comply with training requirements as determined by the officers, or 3. in the case of an Associate Member, training certification is not completed as set forth in Article IV, paragraph 1, #2, or 4. the member’s dues, if any, are not paid within 90 days of the due date set by the officers. Suspension or expulsion of a member may occur if the member has engaged in inappropriate behavior which endangers others or reflects negatively on Tara Woods CERT, Inc. Either action requires unanimous approval by the officers at a meeting where the member has been presented the opportunity to speak on their own behalf. Suspension can be for no more than 30 days in a 3 month period. Article V: Meetings To increase communication and collaboration, meetings of the membership shall be held at least quarterly throughout the year. These are open to Full Members, Inactive Members, Associate Members, and those considering membership. These meetings may be conducted electronically. A quorum for any membership meeting shall be 20% of the Full Members. Meetings of the officers shall be held as needed. Officers shall be elected for a one (1) year term at the annual meeting of the membership held in January. Nominations shall be made by the second Tuesday in December of each year and from the floor at the Membership Meeting in January. Officers shall be elected by a plurality of the Full Members present at the January Membership Meeting where a quorum is present. Minutes of all meetings shall be made available to all Members. YOUR NEW AND IMPROVED NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH A look into our mission statement and expectations: Your Neighborhood Watch Group is charged with helping to create a crime free environment within Tara Woods. The group is headed by Donna Tribeck and Stu Berman. This is not a “resident policing resident” group. It is a group of volunteers who you will see riding through Tara Woods neighborhoods looking for safety issues such as lamp post lights out and possible criminal activities. They can be identified by the orange “Neighborhood Watch” signs on their golf carts or cars.

We encourage anyone walking at night to have a flashlight on them and wear bright colored clothing. We don’t want to assume that everyone walking at night could be suspicious. We love that we have so many walkers in the community. We just want to be able to determine the difference between someone out for a walk and potential crime issues. Again, we are not policing residents, but looking out for crime safety. If you have a lamp post that is out, you may get a call from the Office indicating that the bulb needs

replacement. Look for “Tips of the Month” in The Columns regarding crime prevention and for announcements about a variety of crime prevention speakers that will be hosted by the committee. We need four more volunteers to help with a biweekly evening drive within the community. Please contact Donna Tribeck at 239-357-3333 or Stu Berman at 239-220-2369 if you would like to join us. Thank you in advance for your support. ~ Peter Krilivsky

Many, Many Thanks Many thanks to all of the guys and gals who volunteered their time and talent to build the Tara Woods pirate ship. • David Leeth • Joe (Snapper) Kasdorf • Greg Renaud • Gary Sponseller • Rich Dykstra • Ed Pollitt • Alice Loveday • Sue Clark

It could not have been done without all of their help. And thank you to Hometown America for purchasing the trailer. It took a good bit of work to get the trailer into shape, but it provided a great base for the ship. Thank you to everyone who provided materials.

And a big thank you to Ace Screen Repair and More LLC for the donation of screening used for the sails. Thank you to the crew who manned the cannons during the parade – Martin D’Cruze, Greg Renaud, Rich Dykstra, Ed Pollitt and the Rices (Vera Day’s son and daughter-in-law). Let’s plan to have another, bigger, better pirate parade next year. The ship will be ready. ~ Bob Clark

RESIDENT APPRECIATION DAY Resident Appreciation Day – what a day it was. Saturday morning, February 19th, started off with coffee, Danish and bagels, provided by Hometown America. It was a time to meet and greet our neighbors and have a good time. After Saturday Morning Coffee and meeting we headed to our golf carts for the parade around the three lakes. A special THANK YOU to BOB CLARK and his team who built a pirate ship with cannons that actually work. We started out from the Clubhouse, turning left, cannons roaring, and proceeded around the three lakes and back to the Clubhouse. The parade route was lined by residents, sitting on the side, waving, and cheering. THANK YOU, BOB, FOR BRINGING THE MAGIC BACK TO TARA WOODS. Lunch was followed by a Scavenger Hunt. THANK YOU, PAT Dunning and CLAIRE Schwinn, for running it. After the Scavenger Hunt there was Bingo. THANK YOU, FRED Puhlfuerst, and POLLY Brown, from Pancake Breakfast and Bingo, for your financial support: $300.00 in prize money to the lucky residents who called out “Bingo”. The highlight of the event was the introduction of Carol Shields who was presented to all who attended the dance Saturday night as our Resident

Appreciation Person of the Year. Planning for Resident Appreciation Day starts in October and the committee made plans based on CDC and Hometown America COVID guidelines. This made planning extremely difficult and hence we had to rethink the playing of games. By the time the event came about some restrictions were eased but the difficulty was getting enough volunteers to host the games. It takes months of planning and there are a lot of people who worked very hard behind the scenes, and I would like to take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge them and THANK THEM for all their help. No one person can do this by themself. THANK YOU, Belle Berman, Pat Dunning, Judy Girty, JoAnne Glandorf and Claire Schwinn. You went above and beyond, and it was truly appreciated. Although it was already mentioned, it deserves repeating. THANK YOU to Bob Clark and your team who built the Pirate Ship. You and your team went above and beyond the call of duty. ~ Stuart Berman

DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH TENNIS IN TARA WOODS? CHECK THE TENNIS BULLETIN BOARD ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR UPDATED INFORMATION ON WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH ALL TENNIS ACTIVITIES.

TENNIS ASSOCIATION I can’t believe that it’s April already and the Round Robins, TWIT, and both the White and Blue Tennis Leagues are finished for the year. It was a pleasant surprise to see the new faces playing tennis this season, and I hope everyone had a good time. For all those who will be heading back home shortly, have a safe trip. I hope to see everyone next season. ~ Ed Sandre OPEN TENNIS The mixed doubles “Open Tennis” is played every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 9:00 – 10:30 AM. Even when all 4 courts are filled with enthusiastic tennis players, we always make room for everyone who wants to play; we continually rotate players in, so everyone gets to play. Note: On the first Saturday in March, we had 21 players show up to play; that means we had 5 players rotating in on the four courts – there was a constant change of players on all the courts. All skill levels are welcome to join us on the courts. There is no need to sign up to play on those “Open Tennis” days – just show up at the tennis courts with a racquet and a desire to have some fun. As the “tennis season” winds down, there will be less people showing up for “Open Tennis”, but it is still available during the summer months. If you have an interest in playing tennis, stop by the courts and check us out. TENNIS LEAGUES Men’s League White Team March was the last month of tennis for the men’s league this season. As of March 2nd, the White Team finished its 14th week of play. We had four weeks of play in March – two at home and two away. As of March 1st, we were still in first place in the league. When you read this article, we will have finished playing for the season and you will be able to check the bulletin board at the tennis courts to see how we finished the season. I hope we will still be out front; however, you will have to check the Tennis Bulletin Board to find out. God bless you all. Continue to get out on the court and have fun. We will see you there. ~ Fred Puhlfuerst TENNIS CON’T Blue Team As of this writing (March 6th), the Tara Woods Mustangs tennis team has two more matches left, as

the season is coming to a close. The team’s record is 43 wins and 5 losses. We are currently in first place, with a comfortable lead on the second-place team. Our hope is to win our next two matches and finish in first place; the team feels confident we can do that. I want to thank the players; it was an honor to compete alongside them this season. Thanks also to our fans who came out and supported us; it wouldn’t be near as much fun playing without them cheering us on. Members of the team are: Cliff Baugher, John Burke, Tom Cooney, John Darpino, Andy Hardy, Tim Hoch, Roger Rafferty and Bill Taylor. Gene Dickie, an original member of the team, couldn’t compete for health reasons. ~ Roger Rafferty Women’s League Even though Tara Woods did not have a women’s team in the SWIFT League this season, there is an interest in trying to put together a women’s team for the 2022-23 tennis season. There is a sign-up sheet posted on the Tennis Bulletin Board for all women who may be interested in playing on the Tara Woods women’s team next season. If we do manage to put together a team, here is some information from past years that you might want

to know. The league season usually started on the first Thursday in November. All matches are played on Thursday mornings. We played our home matches on Thursdays at 10:00 AM. Away match times varied, with start times as early as 9:00 AM and as late as 11:00 AM, depending on the community where we played. In prior years, our Tara Woods team practiced on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM. If you have any questions, just ask any of the women tennis players who you see out on the courts. If you have an interest in playing on the women’s team next season, be sure to sign up. ~ Linda Engel TWIT (Tara Woods Inter-Community Tennis) TWIT is slowly coming to an end. Dick Heffron and I want to thank everyone who participated. Look for the sign-up sheet in early October for next year’s TWIT. Talk it up so we can add more courts next year. ~ Mike Renzulli ROUND ROBINS No report this month. ~ Submitted by Linda Engel

Will your money last as long as you do?

We all hope for long, healthy lives. But there’s a serious “side effect” of longevity – the possibility of outliving our money. How can you help prevent this? It’s useful to know the seriousness of the threat. Consider this: About 41% of all U.S. homes in which the head of the household is between 35 and 64 are projected to run short of money in retirement, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute. While this statistic indicates a cause for concern, it certainly doesn’t mean that you are necessarily headed for trouble – because there’s a lot you can do to help build and manage enough resources to last a lifetime. Here are a few suggestions: • Consider your estimated longevity. On average, a 65-year-old man can expect to live another 17 years, while a 65-year-old woman can anticipate about 20 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Of course, you’ll want to take into account your health and family history of longevity to arrive at a reasonable estimate. You can then use this figure to help determine how much money you’ll eventually need. To play it safe, you might even want to try to build an income stream that can last beyond your estimated lifespan, possibly up to age 90. • Don’t overlook health care costs. When budgeting for retirement, allow enough for your health care expenses, which can be considerable. Even with Medicare, you can expect to spend anywhere from $4,500 to $6,500 per year, per person, for traditional medical costs. Also, you may want to prepare for two to three years of long-term care expenses, which currently range from about $50,000 per year for home health care to over $100,000 per year for a private room in a nursing home. • Keep building assets for retirement. While you’re working, constantly try to put away as much money as possible for your retirement years. Each year your salary goes up, increase your contributions to your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan. You may also want to contribute to an IRA, depending on your goals. And within your retirement savings, make sure you devote a reasonable percentage of your investment dollars to growth-oriented vehicles that align with your goals and risk tolerance. • Seek out sources of guaranteed income. As a retiree, you will receive Social Security benefits – and the longer you wait before claiming them, the bigger your monthly checks will be. But you might also consider investments that can provide a source of income you can’t outlive, such as annuities. • Revisit your strategy before you retire. As you near retirement, you may want to review your investment strategy, possibly adjusting your risk level so that your portfolio would be somewhat less susceptible to market volatility. This is also a good time to review your spending needs in retirement. • Maintain a reasonable withdrawal rate. Once you are retired, you’ll likely need to start withdrawing from your 401(k), IRA and other investment accounts. To avoid taking out too much money too early in your retirement, you’ll need to set a reasonable, sustainable withdrawal rate based on your assets, age and retirement lifestyle. A financial advisor can help you determine an appropriate rate. It will take dedication and determination to help ensure your money doesn’t run out during your lifetime. But you’d probably agree that it’s well worth the effort.

their treasures and then purchased them back. We are, also, extremely grateful to Bill Black for his help. Our next meeting is Saturday, October 8th, at 9:00 AM, after Saturday Morning Coffee, and if you are interested in growing friendships, please join us. All are welcome. Yearly dues are only $5.00. MID-ATLANTIC SOCIAL CLUB NEWS We welcome Tara Woods residents from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and friends from all over the country. Check out our postings on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse for contact information and upcoming events. If you have any questions about our Club, please contact one of the officers (names are posted on each newsletter). Our Irish Pub meeting in March was great fun. Gerri Linder and her committee did a bang-up job and we learned a bit about Irish cuisine. This month will be hosted by Bonnie Dixon. “Taco” us to Mexico, Bonnie. Bet you can guess that we are having a Taco party! As always, bring your own table settings and beverage of choice to the April meeting at the Clubhouse. ~ Sue Clark

This segment of Shiloh Speaks includes some interesting facts about the month of April. April is named after the Roman month Aprillis used as the name for the fourth month in the Roman calendar. Aprillis is related to the Latin apperire meaning “to open” or bloom. April is known for beautiful spring weather. April is recognized as the fourth month of the year but that’s only by the Gregorian calendar that we adhere to now. It was previously the fifth month in the earlier Julian calendar. April is the best month of the year to look up in the skies and watch meteor showers which appear April 16th through April 26th. The smaller animals that hibernate for the winter in the Northern Hemisphere usually start coming out of their burrows in April. Abracadabra – Here comes the Easter Bunny hopping down the Bunny Trail with his colorful eggs to hunt for. Too bad April 1st (April Fool’s Day) and Easter Sunday, April 17th, didn’t fall on the same day of the week, and then you could tell the kids to hunt for the eggs you didn’t hide. (Hee-hee). Remember, no chocolate of any kind for us. It’s very toxic!! If you are a car enthusiast, FORD unveiled their first Mustang on April 17th, 1964, costing $2,365.00. Who can forget April Fool’s Day the first day of the month? (Thought I’d fool you all by not mentioning that day). Although, that is one of the most fun days of the month. In conclusion, I’m giving you a few fun dog funnies. April Fool’s chuckles – to end this month of Shiloh Speaks. As a reminder, be sure to pick up after us – after all, it is your Tara Woods!! KEEP IT CLEAN!! What did the hungry Dalmation say after he finishes his dinner? *That hits the spot* Why are Dalmations not good at playing Hide and Seek? *They are always spotted*

MIDWEST CLUB Happy Bunny Day, Easter, and Passover to all the Midwest members. Our next Midwest meeting will be held Thursday, April 7th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. We have reserved the Veranda and Tiki Hut for happy hour starting at 5:00 PM. This will be a Hawaiian/Tropical theme party, so bring out your Hawaiian shirts and dress accordingly. Dinner will consist of pineapple chicken, and two themed rice dishes. Our members with last names of A - H please bring a tropical salad, last name I - P a tropical side, and last name Q - Z a tropical dessert. We will also be playing some fun games. Please start checking the Tara Woods Homeowners Association Groups and Clubs page for any updates on information and check the bulletin board the week of March 15th, for the sign-up sheets, set-up and clean-up sheets, and costs. The New England Club was both shocked and saddened to hear of the death of our longtime member and friend, Frank Millette. He will be dearly missed. TAI CHI When are classes? Tai Chi classes are FREE in the Tara Woods Clubhouse. Classes meet year-round Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Who is teaching classes? Our instructor is Tony Fettig. Tony has 20 years martial arts experience (Tai Chi is a form of martial art) and ten years’ experience in Tai Chi, five of those years as an instructor. He is a full- time resident at Pine Lakes for the past ten years where he teaches Tai Chi classes twice a week. How do I sign up for classes or contact with questions? Contact Barbara Werner-Lubich, Tara Woods resident. Phone: 410 409-5874 Email: barbara. wernerlubich@gmail.com What is Tai Chi? Originating in ancient China, Tai Chi is one of the most effective exercises for mind and body health. Tai Chi is a mind and body practice that involves a series of slow, gentle, flowing exercises that combine movement, meditation, and rhythmic breathing. Who is Tai Chi for? Everyone!! Men and women, any age. Like starting any exercise, it is important to ask your physician any questions you may have about whether Tai Chi is right for you. What are the health benefits of Tai Chi? Tai Chi has been shown to improve one’s flexibility, coordination, relaxation, balance, stamina, and blood oxygenation. It has also been shown to help relieve stress, reduce blood pressure and heart rate. All are particularly important as we age. With the mind and body united in movement, seniors find they feel good and can bring this feeling into their everyday lives, making them more resilient physically and emotionally. What are classes like? Tony teaches the Taoist forms of Master Moy Lin Shin. First 20 minutes: Foundation exercises, slowly and gently working all muscle groups and joints with an emphasis on deep breathing and relaxation. Second 20 minutes: From the beginning, step by step learning the forms of Master Moy Lin Shin. Demonstrating and practicing each movement in order, emphasizing stance, direction, hand and foot position, all in order to achieve the most physical benefit. Last 20 minutes: Connecting the learned movements into the relaxed, continuous, flowing form of Tai Chi.

What should I bring to class? Tony recommends comfortable clothes and flat shoes that allow the foot to glide and pivot. One of the best shoes for Tai Chi is FitKicks available on Amazon for $20-$23. Ballet style slippers like those sold by Isotoner (any brand will do) are also acceptable. Just want to try Tai Chi out before buying shoes? You can wear socks for the short term. Not allowed: bare feet or sneakers. Not sure if shoes you already have are acceptable? Bring them to class to show Tony along with socks just in case. Bring a water bottle. It’s important to stay well hydrated and we will take a brief water break part way through class.

EXERCISE FOR SENIORS CURTIS IS BACK & HE IS LOOKING FOR YOU!! Now is the time to get up and get going again. This is a total body workout that can be done standing or sitting down. It includes stretching, balance, cardio and light weights. Give it a try - nothing to lose and may even gain some muscle.

Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays in the clubhouse at 8:00 AM. Any questions, please contact Barb Simonson at 541-840-4430. Additional classes are held Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:00 AM. Any questions, please contact Celia Blotkamp 703-863-2873.

ENTERTAINING NEWS So, Ladies and Gentlemen… I hope you took the opportunity to see our show last month, “She Was Only Marginally Modest.” Our actors and off-stage crew did a wonderful job to create the show for you – our friends and fellow community members. The show was funny, touching, and well performed by the Entertainers. Thank you to those who took the time and effort to attend; we very much appreciate your support. We are looking ahead to the next production; Janet and I are searching for the next material and will be casting over the summer. If you are interested in being involved, please let me know

SHUFFLEBOARD If anyone is interested in playing Horse Collar on Mondays at 10:00 AM, the cost is $1.00 per player (to be given away as prizes). Anyone can play. The Tuesday and Friday leagues began in January 2021. Call Ken Atkinson at 815-9700467 if you have any questions.

and I will let Janet know to contact you. As for now, our whole group of Entertainers and support teams are taking time off to rest and re-coop our energies. Happy summer to you all. “You need three things in the theatre; the play, the actors, and the audience; each must give something.” Kenneth Haigh Pat Dunning, Stage Manager Entertainers 239-240-5848 padunning46@gmail.com

TARA WOODS COMPUTER CLUB The Tara Woods Computer Club has resumed free computer classes for the owners, renters, and guests of Tara Woods. These are held at 10:30 AM every Thursday in the Card Room at the Clubhouse. They are open to everyone, and there is no membership fee. All of the members this season have been beginners, so we have started with Computer Basics. This is a complete course on how to use your computer and will be entirely covered before we move on to more advanced topics. We have already discussed Windows 11, and additional subjects will be selected as we go along. We spend as much time as we need to on each topic, and the next topic to be covered is always posted on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse. Attend only those classes that appeal to you. Bring something to take notes with, and your laptop computer if you want to follow along on it. I give private lessons and set up or repair computers in your home. I’ve been designing, programming, repairing, teaching, and working with computers since 1968, and can help you

with all of your computer needs. Please call me with any questions or comments at 239-652-0488. I’m looking forward to seeing you. Dave St. Laurent, The Computer Tutor
