To promote the general welfare of the members c. To help provide social, recreational, and civic activities for members d. To coordinate the work of the various committees e. To perform specific duties as assigned to support members ANSWER – all of the above
I hope you had the opportunity to attend our Tara Woods Homeowners first ever outdoor meeting and first official gathering of homeowners since March of 2020. It was a wonderful Florida evening with an assortment of members either sitting in chairs or observing the meeting from their golf carts. Thank you to all who helped make this meeting happen. But most important, thank you to all the members who were there! We covered an array of issues and entertained questions from the membership. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 11th and we will be meeting in the Clubhouse. COVID-19 has affected every single one of us in many ways. I am very proud of your Board of Directors and our many volunteers who continued to work on behalf of our residents throughout this horrific pandemic. Included in this Thank You are all our residents who reached out to help their neighbors. It definitely demonstrates that the “Magic” of Tara Woods is alive and well! Tara Woods has many things; the Pool, the Tennis and Pickleball courts, the Clubhouse, the Shuffleboard and Bocce courts. However, Tara Woods is about people and neighbors. Thank you for being there for your neighbor. Do you want to sell something? Do you want to buy something? Do you want to get accurate up-to-date information? Do you want to review the Homeowners official documents? Do you want to look up other
DID YOU KNOW THAT – Feeding Tara Woods’ wildlife is against the law. We are very fortunate here in Tara Woods to have a large variety of wildlife to view and enjoy. They certainly add to our unique Florida community, and add to our overall enjoyment
of the outdoors. The photos we have seen, taken by residents, are outstanding and breathtaking. Continue to view and photograph the wild animals in our community but refrain from feeding them. This is in their best interest and everyone’s in Tara Woods. Lou Dunning, President loudunning2@gmail.com 239-240-5847

FMO NEWS: TARA WOODS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION NEWS Half of 2021 is almost gone. Where has the time flown. I want to wish safe travels to our snowbirds and look forward to your safe return in the fall. Over the last few months, I’ve written about the importance of being a member of the FMO. It is your voice in Tallahassee as well as your Insurance Agent and many other things you wouldn’t think of. I’ve written about the Roadside Assistance Program, which as an FMO member, for an additional fee, is available to you at significantly lower cost than most other plans around. I’ve glossed over the meetings but did not offer the meat of the meetings. Under normal situations, monthly meetings are held on the second Friday of each month, from November to April. They are held in and around Lee and surrounding counties. Each month it is at a different location. Meetings usually start at 1:00 PM, have a break halfway through, and we are usually out the door by 3:00 PM. I want to thank Belle Berman and Bill Parker for their continued commitment to attend these
meetings. So, what goes on at these meetings. Besides delicious snacks at break time, there are informative guest speakers. Speakers in the past were from various Fire and Police Departments, Insurance Brokers, Physical Fitness folks, and everything in between. Attending the meetings can help you prevent from being scammed, make your home safe from falls, make sure your smoke detectors are working, and everything in between. You can even have your balance checked at some meeting. As you can see, there is much more that goes on behind the scenes. When we get back to inperson meetings, I hope to have the opportunity to meet and greet you. Applications for membership are available on the back bulletin board in the Clubhouse along with mail-in envelopes. Stay well. Stay safe. Have a great summer. Thank you. Stuart Berman

As the new Scheduler for use of the Clubhouse, I am working on re-scheduling events and activities to make sure all requests are scheduled from May 2021 to August 31st, 2022. This is changing things up a bit from our usual procedure of scheduling from September 1st to August 31st. We are hopeful that we will have full use of the Clubhouse by October at the latest, so events are being scheduled now for the fall of this year until August 31, 2022. The use depends on Hometown America guidelines, as we’ve been following for the past fifteen months. Please be aware that use of the Clubhouse for all events, meetings, groups, parties, etc. must go through the Clubhouse Scheduler, who represents the Homeowners Association. The Clubhouse is for use of all residents, and the Scheduler makes sure everyone is accommodated in an organized and congenial manner. It is important that you fill out the form appropriate to your event. There are two Reservation Request Forms in hanging file bins, by the TWHA bulletin board on the back wall of the Clubhouse, by the parking lot entrance. One is for a single day event and the other has a calendar for 2021/2022 on the back to reserve dates for a recurring event, for example: Bingo every Tuesday at 6:45 PM, or state club meetings once/month on different days/dates. Please fill out these forms and drop them at my house. There is a basket on the wall in my screen porch, next to the side door, where they can be left at any time. If you have any questions
about the forms, please call me. These forms are also available on the TWHOA website, twhoa. net under TWHOA Board of Directors/Online Forms. The Electronic Clubhouse Reservation form can be directly emailed to me from the website. The Clubhouse Reservation and Reservation Calendar can be printed out and delivered as above. Reservations will be processed as they are received, with order of importance taken into consideration. Confirmations will be emailed to the requester. Paper copies will be provided on request. Private events that are not for Tara Woods residents must be approved by the front Office, through the Clubhouse Scheduler. Every group using the Clubhouse will be given guidelines for using the Clubhouse and Kitchen. Please read and heed these guidelines to maintain a pleasant experience for everyone using this facility. It is particularly important that the Clubhouse be left in the proper manner when there are two or more events scheduled on the same day or weekend. This often happens from January – April. I hope to make this a smooth transition as we make plans to return to using the Clubhouse once again for parties, meetings and events that we have sorely missed in the past year. Your help and cooperation will be appreciated to make this happen. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Janet Daly, Clubhouse Scheduler janetdaly@yahoo.com 239-567-2285.

KITCHEN HELP NEEDED The Kitchen Committee is looking for four to six people to join the Committee as Saturday Morning Coffee hosts for the summer, May thru October. Two people always work together to set up, host, and clean up. This is the current procedure: The Coffee is set up the Friday before. At 7:00 AM Saturday morning one person goes to Publix to pick up the donuts, which are pre-ordered by me. The other person arrives at the Clubhouse about 7:15 AM to make sure all is ready to serve the guests around 7:45 AM. Clean-up starts either when the meeting begins or ends. That’s up to you. Polly Brown is our Cashier/Treasurer. She is there every Saturday morning to be the cashier, so the hosts can give the guests their full attention. With two people serving each week, a committee of ten people is ideal and that means each person would host only one Saturday each
month. A schedule is prepared for the summer, but is flexible if someone has last minute plans. Whether you are new or have lived here for years, this is a great opportunity to greet old friends and get to know your new Tara Woods neighbors, while doing a needed and appreciated service for the community. Some of the current members of the committee enjoy this opportunity so much, they have been serving for a few years. I am only asking for a one-year commitment at this time. If you would like to join us or would like to know more about it, please give us a call. Thank you!

ENTERTAINING NEWS So, Ladies and Gentlemen... heading into the summer months is a good time to be in Tara Woods. Our wonderful “snowbirds” have returned to their nests in the north, awaiting the melting of the last of the snow, while we here are relishing these few weeks of wonderful weather before the humidity and rain return. We have more time in the evening before dark to go out and see our neighbors and enjoy the wildlife. At our last Entertainers meeting for the season, we nominated Eileen Robinson to the position of Vice President. If you see her, give her your congratulations. I look forward to working with Eileen and the other officers, Carol Shields and Polly Brown, on the business of the Entertainers. If anyone would like to become a part of this small but active family, please let any of the officers know and be sure to plan on coming to our meeting on Saturday, October 16th, in the Clubhouse after Saturday Morning Coffee. During the summer months, Janet, our Director, and I (as stage manager), normally plan on the next production,
select the actors, plot out the set, etc. But this year we will be re-looking at the ‘one that got away’ due to COVID (I hate those letters). “She Was Only Marginally Modest” will be the show and this time, by gosh darn, it will go on. For now, you all enjoy this little joke given to me by one of my most favorite actors to ever play an animal, Irene D’Amico. “My uncle just texted me asking what does IDK mean?” I replied, “I don’t know…”, he replied, “Darn, nobody does!”. “You’ll never really be great unless you aim high.” ~ Stella Adler Pat Dunning, President of the Entertainers 239-240-5848, pdunning46@gmail.com

TARA WOODS CERT TEAM IS ON DUTY! Your Tara Woods CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) team has reorganized under the sponsorship of the Tara Woods Homeowners Association. Currently, there are twenty-eight members, eleven who recently completed the twoweek CERT training with the North Fort Myers Fire Department. At our organizational meeting, we planned outreach projects for our community. Some projects include CPR and AED training, Home Safety surveys,
and golf cart checks. This issue, we ask you to review your ALL HAZARDS GUIDE as hurricane season approaches. Now is the time to update your preparations. Begin to think of what you will need (medication, clothing, important documents, food, and water) to take with you. On page 2 of the Guide is a list of online tools. Take the time to download those apps on your phone, tablets, and laptops. On page 6, review the
Hurricane Supply List. On page 8, read the Special Medical Needs Program and be sure to register with Lee County. Also take note of the Evacation Zones for our county on pages 11-12. Your CERT team is making necessary preparations for hurricane season and any emergency situations that could affect our community. For more information or any questions, please contact Dick Resh or Chuck Poveromo.

FERAL CATS IN TARA WOODS UPDATE #1 It’s been over a month since I reported on Feral Cats in Tara Woods, and a lot has happened. Two four-week-old kittens, both under a pound, were found on Tara Lakes Circle. Since these kittens could eat on their own, I took them in temporarily. They had a complete checkup at my veterinarian the next day and they passed with flying colors. They needed to be weighed every day to see that they were gaining weight on a regular basis. I applied to the Animal Rescue Center on Old Bayshore Road to accept them and I agreed to foster them until they are old enough and weigh enough to be spayed/ neutered and put up for adoption. Big mistake! I’m attached. My application was approved, and all of their vaccines and deworming have been done at ARC. The biggest problem with this situation is Momma Kitty is still on the loose. Probably getting pregnant again! WE NEED TO FIND HER! She’s a small tiger cat (also called a tabby) and she is very feral. She was last seen in the Kara Circle/Darwin Street area. With all the snowbirds gone, the rest of us need to keep our eyes wide open! With the help of Linda Faust on Charleston Circle, two cats were trapped and brought to Gulf Coast Humane Society to be spayed and vaccinated. Linda worked very hard to feed and monitor the cat’s behavior, until I could schedule appointments for the spay/neuters. She helped me with the traps, and we were successful the first night. We trapped a large black male that was clearly feral! He was released the next day and it would be wonderful if someone that sees him regularly would volunteer to feed him daily. I have been putting food and water out where he was trapped but I’m not sure if I’m feeding him, or possibly a raccoon or worse, so it would be better if someone that sees him would feed him. Please let me know if you’re interested.
The very next day Linda had the other cat on her lanai! She could pet her and was able to put her in the trap! I told Gulf Coast that I thought she was just dumped or left behind at Tara Woods and that she was just scared, and not feral. They checked to see if she was chipped or had been spayed. Unfortunately, neither was the case, but they agreed that she was not a feral cat, and they decided to keep her and put her up for adoption after she was spayed and vaccinated. Good luck, little girl! Thank you, Linda, for all your help! If you see a stray cat in your area or if you see one while on a walk or bike ride, please report it to me as soon as possible - especially if it’s a Momma Kitty! Thanks in advance! What to Expect from a Financial Review
The COVID-19 pandemic may have unsettled many aspects of your life – including your financial situation. Even if your employment and earnings were not directly affected, you might have concerns about whether you’ve been making the right investment moves in such a stressful environment. The pandemic is, hopefully, just a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, but different events can rattle financial markets. And changes in your own life also can affect your plans. To prepare yourself for whatever tomorrow may hold, you may want to get some professional help – but what, really, can you expect from a financial advisor? A financial advisor will look holistically at your life – your family composition, your career, your hopes and dreams, your instincts about saving and spending money, your risk tolerance and other factors. So, during your initial meeting, and at subsequent reviews afterward, here are some of the key areas you’ll discuss: • Feelings about your financial situation – Numbers are important to financial advisors, but what’s most meaningful to them is understanding what’s important to their clients. Are you confident about your overall financial outlook? Are you worried about your cash flow? Are you distressed over volatility in the financial markets? Do you have concerns about your career? By getting at the answers to these and similar questions, a financial advisor can gain a clear sense of who you are and what matters to you. You can then follow an established process to build your personalized strategies and take the specific actions needed to achieve your goals. • Progress toward your goals – It takes patience and discipline to achieve long-term goals, such as helping send your kids to college or enjoying the retirement lifestyle you’ve envisioned for yourself. As you save and invest for these goals over the years, you’ll want to ….measure your progress regularly. If you seem to be falling behind, your financial advisor can suggest moves such as increasing your investments or adjusting your investment mix. • Changes in your family situation – Marriage or remarriage, the arrival of new children, the departure of children for college, caregiving responsibilities for older parents – any and all of these events can make a big difference in your goals and, as a result, your investment plans. During your reviews, your financial advisor will consider these changes when making suggestions or recommendations. (Changes in your family’s status may affect your estate plans, so you’ll also need to work with your legal advisor or other estate-planning professional.) • Changes in your retirement plans – As you near retirement, you might decide that your original plans for this time of your life no longer suit you. For example, you might have once thought that, when you retired, you would stay close to home, volunteering and pursuing your hobbies. But now you’ve been thinking how much you would enjoy traveling, or perhaps even living abroad for a while. To accommodate your change in plans, a financial professional may recommend certain moves, such as working a couple of years longer or adjusting the amount you eventually withdraw from your 401(k), IRA and other retirement accounts. As you work toward your goals, you may find it challenging to navigate the financial markets and respond to the changes in your life – but you don’t have to go it alone. And knowing what to expect from a financial advisor can help smooth your journey.

Hope Everyone is well. We are still monitoring the virus situation, and do not believe we will be hosting any events in 2021. The events involved are the Craft Fair and The Fashion Show. Of course, we will keep you updated. The following letter is being sent out to our wonderful vendors for the yearly craft fair. CRAFT FAIR TARA WOODS Dear Vendors, May 1st, 2021 Never did I think I would be writing this letter, but here it is. Once again, we have decided to cancel our Craft Fair scheduled for November 6th, 2021. Again, we did not make this decision lightly, but there is so much uncertainty as to what the fall will bring. The last thing we would want to happen is get to October and then have to cancel. Enclosed is a check refunding your registration fee. I sincerely hope that come next spring, you will be receiving in the mail a registration for the November 2022 Craft Fair. Thank you for your understanding. Carol Shields Don’t forget to go by the beautiful Butterfly Garden, and if you see Diane say “Hi”. She has taken over from Linda Hoos and is doing an amazing job. Thank you, Diane. Hopefully 2022 will begin to be much more normal.
Florida Gardening Here is Wonderful, but Different Whether you are an experienced or casual gardener, Florida gardening brings new challenges and rewards. Here are some tips to help you in your new adventure: Our soil is sandy which Caption: A parrot landed on Diane’s shoulder means it drains quickly, while she was in the Butterfly Garden. taking nutrients plants And it doesn’t belong to her! need away with the water. Therefore, fertilizer is necessary. Granular is best so that it will release slowly. Water-based fertilizers will move right by the roots with little benefit to the plant. Even pots are better served with granular fertilizers. Everything needs fertilizer, including your palms. Follow the label instructions on when and how much to use. Most plants grow quickly here with only modest help from you. When planting, check information on the growth rate and “mature” size. You will be amazed how quickly that little pot becomes a large plant. You need to plan ahead so that plants have room to grow. That means space between plants, and also away from your foundation. Because of the humidity, airflow between plants is important to prevent mildew and fungus. Don’t plant too tightly and make sure you have a good pruner to cut back enthusiastic growers. If you intend to plant a tree, look overhead for wires and plant far enough in front or back of the wires so that your tree will not have to be topped as it reaches its mature size. Remember, most plants grow quickly here. Frost is rare but dry conditions are the norm from October to March. Average rainfall during those months is less than .5 inches per month. With the cooler temperatures and drier conditions, many plants go into dormancy, and some will actually lose their leaves. Not to worry, most will be back with the spring rains. When selecting new plants check to see what they do during the dry season, so you are not surprised/disappointed with your winter landscape. In the north, summer is the time to plant vegetables. NOT in Florida. The heat and humidity are too much for most vegetables. Tomatoes, for example, need cool evenings to set, fruit and zucchini mildew with too much water. Vegetable gardens and farmer’s markets return in September. Summer is flower time here. Flowers bloom with abandon over an extended period. Sites like: www.floridagardening.org and www.floridayards.org will help you understand the requirements of the plants that are already in your landscape and assist you in selecting new ones that will thrive in your location. There are a huge number of beautiful, low maintenance plants that will do well here. No need to select a challenging one unless you want to. If you choose to do some pot gardening, invest in clay or ceramic pots. Plastic pots are cheaper and lighter weight but they will crack and fade under the Florida sun. Over time they are more expensive and more hassle. Without freezing temperatures clay pots will not crack as they would in colder climates. Because they are heavy when empty and even heavier filled with dirt and plants, try to place large clay/ceramic pots in their “permanent” location. Don’t plant things considered by the state of Florida to be “invasive”. It is not just to protect Florida. The first place they will “invade” is your landscape, taking over areas you had allocated to other plants. A good source of information on invasive plants is at www.floridasnature.com. Florida means citrus, so your first thought may be to plant a citrus tree. Beware, citrus greening disease is destroying commercial groves and private garden trees. At the moment, there is no effective control treatment. Until a solution can be found
you would be better served to plant another type of tree. Some popular northern “annuals” will thrive and add color during Florida winters. Geraniums are a familiar example. They get leggy here in summer with few flowers but thrive with cooler temperatures and drier conditions. Since winter here is very dry, they will need to be watered regularly. Stay safe. Rachelle DellaRocca, 239-322-6386
June What to Plant • Annuals/Bedding Plants: Annuals that can take full sun during the increasingly hot summer months include celosia, portulaca, vinca, and some coleus. • Palms: Summer’s warm, rainy months are the perfect time to plant palms. Make sure not to cover the trunk with soil. • Herbs: Plant heat-loving herbs, including basil, ginger, summer savory, cumin, Mexican tarragon, and rosemary. • Vegetables: Plant tropical vegetables, such as boniato, calabaza, and chayote.
What to Do • Pests: Monitor the landscape and garden weekly for harmful insects. Knowing which insects attack a plant can aid in identification and treatment. • Irrigation: Watch for drought stress and water as needed if rainfall has been spotty. Focus on new plantings and follow watering restrictions. When rains begin, shut down the irrigation system. • Propagation: Produce more plants by air layering, grafting, division, or cuttings. • Palms and cycads: Watch for nutrient deficiencies or other problems and use an appropriate treatment. • Pruning: Lightly prune summer-flowering shrubs, like hibiscus, oleander, and ixora, during the warmer months to increase blooming. • Fertilizer Bans: Numerous municipalities in south Florida prohibit the application of fertilizer to lawns and/or landscape plants during the summer rainy season (June – September). See if such an ordinance exists in your area. • Lawns: Check frequently for damaged areas and keep insects in check with early treatment. Determine whether yellow and brown lawn patches are caused by chinch bugs, disease, or lack of water. Take time to determine the cause so your remedy is effective. Rejuvenate areas where grass does not grow well by replacing it with versatile groundcovers. • Soil solarization: Clean up your vegetable garden and solarize the soil for 4 – 6 weeks to kill pests and disease. • Lightning safety: Be safe outdoors during storm season.
July What to Plant • Annuals/Bedding plants: Summer annuals to plant now include celosia, coleus, torenia, and ornamental pepper. • Bulbs: Butterfly lily and gladiolus are bulbs that can be planted during the middle of summer. • Herbs: While summer is too hot to start herbs from seeds, many, such as oregano and mint, do well if started from small plants. • Vegetables: Plant tropical vegetables, such as boniato, calabaza, and chayote this month. • Palms: Continue planting palms while the rainy season is in full swing. Support large palms with braces for 6 – 8 months after planting. Do not drive nails directly into a palm trunk.
What to Do • Trees: Prepare for hurricane season by checking trees for damaged or weak branches and pruning if needed. Hire an ISA-certified arborist. • Lawns: Determine the cause of any lawn problems before taking action. If an insect is the culprit, treat only the affected area. Rule out disease or sprinkler malfunction. • Fertilizer Bans: Numerous municipalities in south Florida prohibit the application of fertilizer to lawns and/or landscape plants during the summer rainy season (June–September). See if such an ordinance exists in your area. • Vegetable garden: Use summer heat to solarize the vegetable garden for fall planting. It takes 4–6 weeks to kill weeds, disease, and nematodes, so start now. • Irrigation: Install an inexpensive rain shutoff device to save money by overriding an irrigation system when it rains. If one is already installed, check that it is operating properly. • Pests on ornamental plants: Inspect the leaves of ornamental plants for small white dots that may indicate lace bugs at work. Spray forcefully with water to help control this pest. • Tropical fruit trees: Check for damage to fruit or leaves and take action to minimize the effect of insects and/or disease on developing fruit or the overall health of the tree.

SPORTS, EXERCISE, and ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES, ACTIVITIES Summer in southwest Florida means hot, humid and lots of rain. Though uncomfortable for us, it turns our community into a lush, green, beautiful paradise. We turn into early morning or evening creatures to enjoy being outside, if the mosquitoes are in check. All these conditions don’t stop us from continuing our fun activities, whatever the time of day or night. We’re hoping the pandemic guidelines will be lifted even more, and we’ll have full use of our Clubhouse very soon. Thank you to Bill Black and the Dog Park Club for making Memorial Day a special day for everyone. The food was wonderful, and the hundreds of flags placed down Tara Blvd. and in front of the Clubhouse were a fitting memorial to all those who gave their lives in service to our country. Thank you to all who
contributed in any way to make this a memorable Memorial Day. I don’t know if there will be a July 4th party, but there will be something different! We will have a Fourth of July Golf Cart Parade, similar to the Appreciation Day Parades of the past. Details will be forthcoming, but it’s an opportunity to decorate your golf cart, bike or motorcycle with all things Americana. As the pandemic guidelines relax and the Clubhouse opens up a little more, watch for more groups to start meeting again. The TWHOA website will post new activities when notified. Word of mouth and phone calls work well, also. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions regarding the events at this time or in the future. TAI CHI When are classes? Tai Chi classes are FREE in the Tara Woods Clubhouse. Classes meet year-round Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Who is teaching classes? Our instructor is Tony Fettig. Tony has twenty years martial arts experience (Tai Chi is a form of martial art) and ten years experience in Tai Chi, five of those years as an instructor. He is a full-time resident at Pine Lakes for the past ten years, where he teaches Tai Chi classes twice a week. How do I sign up for classes or contact with questions? Contact Barbara Werner-Lubich, Tara Woods resident. Phone: 410-409-5874 Email: barbara.wernerlubich@gmail.com What is Tai Chi? Originating in ancient China, Tai Chi is one of the most effective exercises for mind and body health. Tai Chi is a mind-body practice that involves a series of slow, gentle, flowing exercises that combine movement, meditation, and rhythmic breathing. Who is Tai Chi for? Everyone!! Men and women, any age. Like starting any exercise, it is important to ask your physician any questions you may have about whether Tai Chi is right for you. What are the health benefits of Tai Chi? Tai Chi has been shown to improve one’s flexibility, coordination, relaxation, balance, stamina, and blood oxygenation. It has also been shown to help relieve stress and reduce blood pressure and heart rate. All are particularly important as we age. With the mind and body united in movement, seniors find they feel good and can bring this feeling into their everyday lives, making them more resilient physically and emotionally. What are classes like? Tony teaches the Taoist forms of Master Moy Lin Shin. First 20 minutes: Foundation exercises, slowly and gently working all muscle groups
and joints with an emphasis on deep breathing and relaxation. Second 20 minutes: From the beginning, step by step learning the forms of Master Moy Lin Shin. Demonstrating and practicing each movement in order, emphasizing stance, direction, hand and foot position, all in order to achieve the most physical benefit. Last 20 minutes: Connecting the learned movements into the relaxed, continuous, flowing form of Tai Chi. What should I bring to class? Tony recommends comfortable clothes and flat shoes that allow the foot to glide and pivot. One of the best shoes for Tai Chi is FitKicks available on Amazon for $20-$23. Ballet style slippers like those sold by Isotoner (any brand will do) are also acceptable. Just want to try out Tai Chi before buying shoes? You can wear socks for the short term. Not allowed: bare feet or sneakers. Not sure if shoes you already have are acceptable? Bring them to class to show Tony along with socks just in case. Bring a water bottle. It’s important to stay well hydrated and we will take a brief water break part way through class.

ATTENTION VETERANS!! Many of you are not aware of USAA Auto and Home Insurance specifically designed for veterans AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS: spouses, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren etc. I can attest to the fact that the savings are substantial (for myself and my family) since becoming a member several years ago. You just need to call: 1-800-531-8722 to enroll. YOU SERVED – NOW YOU CAN SAVE! Sam Topping, U.S. Army

RECYCLING 101 When in Doubt – Throw it out! No Styrofoam! Especially NO plastic bags! They can be deposited at Publix in the green bins outside as well as Styrofoam egg cartons. Did you know soda cans can be picked up on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month by volunteers? They are sold and the money helps fund OUR Homeowners Association. Did you know, that if you include an unrecyclable item in your bin, the recyclers must go through it by hand and pull them out, otherwise the entire load goes in the trash! Approved recyclables include: • Paper - (excluding shredded, waxed, metallic or soiled). • Cardboard - (excluding those with a waxed coating). • Plastic - (excludes plastic bags, styrofoam, hazardous materials). • Glass - green, brown and clear are all acceptable. • Cans - Aluminum or steel (tin) - Homeowners Association will also pick up your aluminum cans on the 1st and 3rd, Saturday of the month curbside. For additional information, go to: http://leegov.com/solidwaste/residential/recycling
