LRC EMPLOYEE PROFILE HANS BEHR
Dr. Tomasko to Speak on February 12th
Household Hazardous Waste HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION EVENT
Executive Director of Sarasota Bay Estuary Program
Sarasota County Hazardous Waste and The Landings are hosting a household hazardous waste collection event.
Interested i n lear n i ng about Sarasota Bay, our unique coastal lagoon and how climate change will affect us here at The Landings and what we can do about it? Mark your calendars for a talk on all these topics by Dr. Dave Tomasko, the Executive Director of the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program (SBEP). SBEP’s work since 1989 has been a game-changer for Sarasota Bay in improving water quality and restoring habitat, but there is still much to do. Dr. Tomasko will also offer his perspective on the controversial question “Should Midnight Pass between Siesta Key and Casey Key be reopened?” It’s a hot topic since this would impact the habitat in Little Sarasota Bay, just south of us here at The Landings.
So, mark your calendars for Monday February 12 th at 3:00 pm, Lakeside room at LRC. This is a joint event of the Free College and the LMA and all are welcome! There will a complimentary wine and cheese reception with Dr. Tomasko following the talk.

This is the sixteenth in a series of articles highlighting the special volunteers who help to make The Landings such a special place to live. The Eagle interviewed Neil Goldman for this issue. Academic prodigy, family man, athlete, coach, lawyer, and Landings volunteer all describe Neil Goldman. Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Neil skipped second and ½ of sixth grade in the public schools. He was 12 when he started high school and he graduated and started college at 16. Despite his academic success, and ability to compete athletically with his older classmates, he felt “socially” behind among his classmates growing up. He remembers being with friends, going all over the Chicago on buses and trains. He was always out doing things with his friends. They often went to Wrigley Field to watch the games. He played Little League baseball and continued playing at higher levels as he got older. As one of the better athletes, he played both pitcher and shortstop. His father was a psychologist, and his stay-at-home mother took care of the four children (Neil the oldest, two sisters and a bother). When asked about his early years, he remembered the impact of civil rights, Martin Luther King and the 1968 Chicago riots. He and his father participated in public marches and activities in support of social justice. While in his senior year of high school in 1969, (a year all Cubs fans will remember) at age 16 he was able to get a job as a vendor at Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park, and Soldier Field selling soft drinks, snacks, ice cream and hot dogs. He continued working as a vendor during the summers, on weekends, and for night games while he was in college. By the time he was 21 he was able to sell beer. You must ask him to give you his sales pitch chant when he was a beer salesman in the parks. It is very impressive. His first two years while in college were at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He then transferred to the University of Illinois Urbana-
Champaign. It was in his senior year that he decided that he wanted to be a lawyer. Given a need to earn more money for law school, he took a year off from his academic studies upon graduation and worked at an electronics factory. He was challenged academically, for the first time, when he entered the University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign Law School. There was a lot of pressure in law school and the stress, plus lots of pizza, contributed to a significant weight gain. It’s hard to believe, seeing Neil now, that he weighed 211 pounds upon graduating law school. To his credit, he has since lost 45 pounds. Upon graduating law school, he sought out a position that could provide him the economic security he wanted and the experience he needed. He found a single practice attorney who hired him right out of school. He was with that firm his entire 35-year career. The firm became a significant one, specializing in personal injury. They expanded to two offices, 22 lawyers and 50 employees. In 1979, he met and married Sharon. Ask him or her to tell the story about how they met in a bar. They soon had two sons (Scott and Mark) and now have four grandchildren. Neil prides himself on being a family man. When his kids were young, he coached soccer, Little League, and hockey. Both of his boys were good athletes and were on very competitive travel teams. One of his grandchildren, who is 12 years old, is ranked number 17 nationally in tennis in his age group and travels all over the country to play in tournaments. Neil and Sharon had always wanted a winter and summer home near or on the water. In 1987, they purchased their summer home in New Buffalo, on Lake Michigan. After visiting friends in Sarasota, they decided to find a winter home and in 2004 purchased in The Landings. While still working, Neil and Sharon would travel back and forth during the winter from Chicago to Sarasota. In 2013, Neil retired, and they transitioned from
being “snowflakes” to “snowbirds”. Neil had not played much tennis prior to his retirement so he was attracted to The Landings as a tennis community where he could learn and improve his game. They love the location, the environment and that they have made so many friends with similar interests. They have taken advantage of the many social and tennis activities in the community. Soon after retirement, Neil got involved with the community, serving on the board and then President of Portside Village Landings South 2 Association. He has served on the LMA Board twice, and has been a long-term member of the security committee. He has served on the tennis committee and is an active player on two league teams. He is still captain of the men’s 60’s team. He finds time to play pickleball in The Landings, at public pickleball facilities in Sarasota, and in New Buffalo. He also takes advantage of the area’s cultural events. He enjoys bike riding, boating and kayaking. He was recently elected
to serve on the board of the Landings Racquet Club. When asked what he thought would be needed to make The Landings a better place in the future he said, “I’m concerned about the aging infrastructure. The LRC has old buildings with limited areas for growth. It’s going to take a lot of money to maintain our facilities so that we can be more competitive with the newer communities. Erosion of our lakes and the extreme effects of global warming are issues we need to address. Within 3050 years, it is projected that higher water will cover a large part of The Landings, especially Eagle Point Circle, Heron Way and all of the tennis courts. The nature trail already is frequently covered with water. Flooding is going to be a serious problem and can’t be ignored.” Despite his concerns, Neil loves The Landings and has been a fantastic leader on the boards and associations he serves. We thank Neil for his volunteer service and look forward to his involvement for many years to come.

President’s Report Dear Neighbor, As we enter the new year, your board has two key objectives: the successful completion of the road restoration project and the successful “modernization” of our security apparatus. Improvement on the scale we are discussing does not come without challenges and hard work from our many volunteers who work on your behalf to make our community a better place to live. Please consider this as we all put up with the “inconveniences” that inevitably come with progress. Our year-end unaudited financials are just in, and I want to share these results with you by focusing on committee level performance. A surplus of $175,000 will be achieved. Net interest income (after 30% federal tax leveled on HOA interest and other income) is responsible for 80% of the total. We were fortunate to capture high interest rates just as we experienced an inflow of annual and special assessment income. Our primary bank is Centennial who serves as a network bank for us in the IntraFi system that enables all our funds to be FDIC insured. Centennial was very responsive to our requests for the highest rates achievable within the network. (I am sure it helped that due to the roads project, we had very high

deposits for a typical HOA). The balance of the surplus was due to the hard work by your committee chairs and their respective committees. Here are the results by committee: Grounds: - Ground contract, irrigation repairs, tree trimming and enhancements: on budget. Thank you, Paul Weiner. - Kayak: (together with the nature trail and the Gazebo, kayak is included in the Grounds category). A negative $19,000. The board authorized an expenditure of up to $25,000 for the installation of a kayak launch. The launch was installed ahead of schedule and on budget. At the current level of kayak berths, this subcategory will bring in $10,800 in rack rentals per year, so the pay-back schedule is on track. Thank you to Jackie Massari and her committee. - Maintenance: on budget. Thank you, Judy Greene, and to Teddy Fox who is our independent contractor. - Lakes and Drainage: all initiatives (erosion mitigation, extensive ditch clearance) completed with a 7% surplus resulting. Thank you to Mike Knupp, Richard Greenspan, Frank Pipers as well as the employees at Admiral Environmental for your help. - Security: Year end results show
an 11% surplus. I cannot overstate how much volunteer work goes into this committee and how difficult the situations can become. We are now in a transition to a new system that will add efficiency and convenience to our residents. It will remain a challenge for us until we can implement the new system during the second quarter of this year. I thank Mike Knupp, Judy Greene, Amy Drachman, and Justin Berry (captain) for all your efforts during the year. A sidenote, the surplus would be more than $20,000 greater if it were not for needed repairs to the north and south Gates. These gates have aged out and will be replaced as part of the “modernization.” - Administration: 12% over budget. Bank fees, legal and accounting services were higher. This was necessary and consistent with the higher level of financial activity occasioned by the roads project. Pinnacle Management charges were on budget. Thank you to Heather Hamilton and to Emily Riddle for your help during the year. In closing, thank you to Harvey Greller, our treasurer and to his committee that included Amy Drachman, Louis Goncalves, Hans Hawrysz and John Schmidt.

Stone Crab Season Starts October 15th. Fresh Catch Market & Grill has the Freshest & Best Stone Crabs in Sarasota Area
This was our second visit, this time with family from Minneapolis near Christmas. WHAT a perfect delicious dinner on all levels! My daughter's family, very discerning food critics, said the Dungeness crab was equal to the best they had in Latin America. They inhaled their supper with gusto! We love the more natural low key atmosphere and the close proximity of the staff to the dining area. This helps them too in observing guest experience, valuable feedback. The fresh fish selection of approximately 8-10 varieties is impressive and well represented with truly delicious options. We had their fresh steamed clams in butter — small super fresh and so sweet. Even saved the broth to make homemade Italian clam marinara later! And their crab cake was amazing.

President’s Report By Beth Cotner January at the Club was bustling once again. Team tennis, trivia, and line dancing took place in January. In addition, lessons in Mahjong and Mat Pilates started. Our first Burns Supper took place on January 25th, celebrating the birthday of poet Robert Burns, with bagpipes, poetry readings and
haggis. The Landings Free College got off to a great start with talks on Turkey, Artificial Intelligence, and restoring Sarasota Bay. The most importa nt event i n January was our election of new officers. Our new officers are Beth Cotner, President, Bob Golicher, Vice
President, Ellen Demos, Secretary, and Norm Olshansky, Treasurer. Other n ew b o a rd me mb e r s a r e Ne i l Goldman, and George Ulrich. The board really appreciated Sue Lewis stepping in to fill the role of Treasurer for the past two months. The club’s finances are in very good

Tennis Clinics are on page 23
By Adrian “Mo” Moghina What you are thinking about and saying to yourself in a pressure match is just as important as your tennis strokes, strategy, and fitness level. You are hitting a tennis ball only about 25% of the time in a tennis match. The other 75% of the time is the “in between” points time. What your mind is focused on in this between time is crucial to your success. Are you staying focused in the present moment? Do you say positive things to yourself and your teammate? Do you know how to relax yourself under pressure? Are you crystal clear on your game plan and targets? Dr. Jim Loehr is a famous high-stress
shape as we had prepared in advance for the insurance rate increases that took place last year. I hope you enjoy all the wonderful activities that are taking place at our club and have a very happy new year!
performance psychologist that developed an emotional training system that helps tennis players deal with pressure during their match. Players such as Monica Seles and Jim Courier used his system to become the best players that they could be. His system has four stages that take about 20 seconds or less to do before and after every point. I simplify it and remember it by the letters P.R.P.R. The first stage is P for POSITIVE physical response. Your body language portrays a very confident look no matter what happened in the last point. And you are only saying positive words to yourself like “It’s okay”, “stay calm”, “watch the ball” or “you got this”.
The second stage is R for RELAX. Try to take a long deep breath and shake off any unnecessary tension in your hands, arms, and shoulders. Have good eye control. Don’t look around too much and risk getting very distracted. Look at your strings, a tennis ball or something that helps to keep you relaxed and focused in the present. The third stage is P for PREPARE and plan for the next point. Are you going to start the next point aggressive or conservative? What patterns and targets will you use to create pressure and achieve your strategy? And the fourth stage is R for RITUALS. Do your rituals before you serve or return your opponent’s serve. For example, bounce the
ball three times before you serve, or jump up and down before you get into your return serve position. This system gives you the best chance to handle the pressure of the match and play as well as you can that given day. If you notice that the best players in the world such as Rafael Nadal and Coco Gauff do just about the same things repeatedly in between points after every point. And it’s very hard to tell whether they are winning or losing unless you see the score on the screen. We will have our Social Round Robin and Pro Exhibition on Friday February 16th from 2-4:30 pm. Sign up in the Pro Shop. See you on the courts.

Please do what you can to avoid driving, walking, or cycling through the newly laid asphalt and then entering our parking lot. The warning that LMA

There is the opportunity for the asphalt to adhere to your tires and mark the pavers in your driveway if you drive on the fresh asphalt. Wave Reviews!
Submitted by Jackie Massari, LMA Kayak Committee Chair Photos by Kim Cooper The reviews are in on the new kayak launch. “What a great addition to the community.” “The new launch made it so easy.” ”I love the new launch!” These are comments from those who have ventured into the Nature Trail waters independently and during the December 9th and January 16 kayak outings. We have planned another outing on February 6. Like the outing last year, interested kayakers can rent a kayak on Turtle Beach and then we will have lunch. Once again, John McFetridge has organized the outing and arranged for us to rent single kayaks for $30 and tandem kayaks for $45. Timing will be tide contingent so final details
will be posted on TeamReach and The Landings website. In the interim, call Tim at 740434-8973, 8900 Blind Pass Road, Sarasota, to reserve your kayak. And when you see John, give him a big round of appreciation for his leadership on these kayak outings. We welcome suggestions for additional destinations and for volunteers to lead future outings. Please remember to check TeamReach for updated information on future kayak events, to buy/sell kayaks, and to borrow/lend kayaks. According to one of Landings’ resident legal authorities, unless you are loaning a kayak
with a hole in it, you would have no liability were the borrower to injure himself/herself while using your kayak! There were few berths that became open for the 2024 year. The berth rental waitlist grows longer, attributable in part by the easy launching now available. Our plans for more than a dozen new berths have been thwarted, hopefully only momentarily, by the county’s new requirement of permitting to remove buttonwoods along the trail where the berths had been planned. We have been working for more than a month with the county to obtain approval to remove these plants and have not given up

Profile of LRC Employee
Hans Behr, A life following the Law of Harvest By Em Becker
While recognized by Landings residents for his contributions at the Racquet Club, Hans Behr’s journey has extended far beyond familiar courts. From living in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Behr’s rich experiences have shaped him into the person the local community knows and loves. Behr grew up in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the country’s largest city and main port. He lived in Guayaquil for almost forty years. During his time in Guayaquil, he was introduced to the world of shortwave radio. Behr was fascinated by the global reach of shortwave radio. He strived to learn everything he could about shortwave radio. Through shortwave radio, he was able to listen to a diverse range of music which included rock bands. Behr tuned into the classic songs of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Pink Floyd. In his free time, he found himself researching bands he listened to learn more about them. Behr’s passion for radio showed him the importance of music. He realized that music held the power to prompt people to reflect on their individual experiences and discover their true selves. In 1987, Behr decided he wanted a change of pace. He enrolled in a naturalist guide course in Puerto Ayora, a town in Santa Cruz Island, which is part of central Galapagos.
He was drawn to the Galapagos because of the snorkeling opportunities into the Devil’s Crown, located off Floreana Island. Ages ago, the Devil’s Crown was a volcanic crater. It is a premier snorkeling spot, attracting people from around the world. Behr was interested in the job of a guide because of its roots in passion and the opportunity to study the island’s nature. He loved the idea of sharing exciting knowledge with others to enhance their own experience. The guide course was difficult for Behr, as it was in English, which was not his native language. He spent hours studying for the exam and improving his English. When he passed the exam, he was officially able to guide tourists around the island. “A guide is an interpreter of nature and must explain, in simple words, the interactions that are observed between species, between the living and geology”, Behr stated. Though he enjoyed giving tours and exploring nature’s beauty, the consistent use of English on tours was a struggle in the beginning. To overcome this issue, Behr worked hard to ensure his tour received the best experience possible. He wrote basic English phrases on note cards, dedicating countless hours to memorizing them. He would read and repeat the information in the training books. Behr also carried an English dictionary on his tours to optimize his ability to answer any questions. Living in the Galapagos Islands allowed Behr to become familiar with the local animals. Frequently, he would check on the Galapagos Giant Tortoises. “They are beautiful”, Behr said of the tortoises. Sometimes he was called to dig a hole in the ground to make a chamber for the tortoises to lay their eggs. Behr was a naturalist in the Galapagos from 1987-1989. In October of 1989, he then moved
to Sarasota, Florida to join his brother. He settled in and became familiar with the area through his travels via public transportation. This led him to obtain his driver’s license. In 2001, he returned to the Galapagos to continue his journey as a guide. A company called Buccaneer knew about his previous experience with guiding and reached out to him to come work for them. He worked in the Galapagos again from 2001-2003. Outside of tours, he studied marine iguanas and learned how they lived. “Wow, it was incredible”, Behr reflected. He also learned how to dive and take crews diving. In that role, he explained the dangers of currents and need of diver safety. He enjoyed exploring the reef in the North Island where schools of hammerhead sharks could be spotted. Following his time in the Galapagos, he returned to the United States. In 2009, he began working at the Landings Racquet Club in the day-court maintenance position. Working for the Racquet Club is a rewarding experience for him because there is no monotony, and there is always something
new to do. Throughout his many adventures, Behr never forgot the influence of music from his time in shortwave radio. Now, he appreciates the calming nature of classical music. He loves Mozart and listens to his wonderful melodies at least once per day. He credits Mozart with helping him to develop into the best version of himself. Behr mentioned that his diverse experiences have led him to appreciate the law of the harvest. “The law of the harvest says that in life, we will reap what we sow”, Behr said. Behr encourages others to immerse themselves in their pursuits and invest effort into their endeavors, unlocking endless potential.

Lichens: Living Together for 500 million By Hans Hawrysz
Lichens, the patchy green growths on tree trunks that thrive in the background of The Landing landscape and our consciousness, are very unusual and some say bizarre organisms. They represent a vastly different model for how a life form can survive and thrive. Lichen’s life model is not based on being an individual organism but a relationship between two different life forms or symbiosis. In 1879, scientist Heinrich Anton de Bary defined Symbiosis as "the living together of unlike organisms”. Lichens are a partnership between a fungus and
an algae. Other species follow this model – most trees depend on fungi in their roots to convert chemicals to usable sugars. Clownfish live with an anemone’s poison to the benefit of both. Lichens are one of the most successful practitioners of the symbiosis model. Beyond their historical success, global range, diversity of shapes and colors, their ability to withstand extreme conditions is a constant source of interest for scientists. What is a Lichen? Lichens are an ancient species built to survive in many incredibly challenging environments. They are low energy and can turn on/off their metabolism for lengthy periods to deal with difficult periods. In the Lichen partnership, the fungus is the dominant partner and responsible for the basic structure. It creates exposure to the sun, protects from radiation and adheres the structure to a highly specialized surface. In the structure lives the algae that converts sunlight into the energy that sustains both the algae and fungus and their associated
bacteria helpers. The fungus also provides the algae with water and chemicals necessary for its survival. The bottom layer of the lichen is specialized to adhere to the specific surface of whatever the lichen lives on. – tree bark and branches, boulders, rocks, fences etc. The bottom layer does not conduct any water or food to the lichen. Unlike higher plants, lichens have no roots, stems, or leaves. All the lichen needs is a receptive surface, light, and rain/humidity. The Lichen’s flexibility and minimal requirement’s structure provides

Years and Going Strong many colonization opportunities and a unique ability to survive in harsh conditions. The Success and Toughness of Lichens The symbiotic model that lichens have pioneered has proven to be extremely successful. Lichenologists believe that lichens have been around for 400+ million years since plants first began to cover the earth. Current estimates are that there are an estimated 20,000 species of lichens in the world with tremendous diversity. There are an estimated 1,000 species of lichen in Florida. They are found from the poles to the tropics, from the intertidal zones to the peaks of mountains and on every kind of surface from soil, rocks, tree bark, abandoned cars to the backs of living insects. Estimates are that lichens cover about 7% of the global land mass, especially in the tundra regions where they are the primary food for caribou and reindeer. Lichens can survive the hottest spots on earth, can be frozen to the temperature of liquid nitrogen (-196 C) and resume photosynthesis when brought back to room temperature, and they can
even live inside solid rock. In 2005, The European Space Agency sealed two species of lichen into a capsule and launched it into space to test the limits of lichens ability to survive. Once in orbit the capsules were opened, and the lichens were directly exposed to the vacuum of space with its widely fluctuating temperatures and cosmic radiation. After 15 days the lichens were brought back to earth and were found to be in full health with no discernible damage from their time in orbit. Lichens also have a high tolerance for radioactivity and can be the first organisms to colonize, or the longest to survive in areas of high radioactive contamination. These capabilities have made lichens a poster child for Panspermia theories – the idea that life came to earth via meteorites or extraterrestrial objects. And finally, lichens are extremely long lived. It is quite common for a lichen to have a lifespan of several centuries; in fact, some arctic specimens are estimated to be about 9,000 years old!
Lichens in the Landings There are lichens everywhere in The Landings, but they are not easy to spot. Look for crusty splotches on the bark of the oaks, bushes, palms, walls, and mangrove branches along the nature trail. Like the Resurrection Ferns, which cover many of our oak trees, they become more visible when it rains, and they swell up to capture moisture to store. Lichens demonstrate that living together can work to the benefit of the partners!

Wellen Park and Warm Mineral Springs By Betty Greenspan
It seems like every time I open the Herald there was some article about Wellen Park. So, I decided that a visit was in order. I also wanted to see what was happening in Warm Mineral Springs, a place I promised myself to visit years ago. As a fan of farmers markets, we went on a Sunday so we could also experience the Wellen Park farmers market. The Fresh Harvest Farmers Market, as it is called, is in downtown Wellen Park and open from 9:00 am to 1:00 p.m. I had a deja Ja vu moment as the area is set up exactly like Lakewood Ranch with a huge lake minus all the new construction. The buildings and shops surrounding the farmers market look exactly like the buildings at Lakewood Ranch. I found that it was fashioned after it so that explained everything.
I must admit that it was a great market with different offerings than I had seen at the other markets I reported on. There was cheesecake, homemade peanut butter, bagels, Paella and more. The owner of a new Mediterranean restaurant in Gulf Gate was even offering samples. Wonderful eggplant! The Great Lawn created for community festivals, markets, celebrations and events features a lakefront fountain, splash pad, outdoor stage and large patio. A 3-mile lakefront trail with on- site bicycles, e-bike, kayak, and paddle board rentals at Kind Vibes Outfitters is right there. While in the area, you can also catch a baseball game at the Cool Today Park, which is the spring training and player development home for the Atlanta Braves. The ballpark features an 8,000-seat stadium.
Warm Mineral Springs is a unique natural warm spring with an average temperature of 85 degrees year-round. The spring is known for its high mineral content and therapeutic properties, attracting over 150,000 visitors annually. You can relax and soak in the waters, which are rumored to have healing qualities. The weather was a bit chilly when we visited Mineral Springs as the morning air temperature was 56 degrees. I wondered why I waited so long after reading so much about it with its unique history. Accordi ng to “authent ic h istorical documents” the spring is the Fountain of Youth sought by Ponce De Leon who was mortally injured by a Native American raiding party. It is now known that for centuries Native Americans and others journeyed for many miles in search of their
health and wellbeing by bathing in and drinking the waters. Supposedly, after many years of research and studying documents, Jonas E. Miller of Washington D.C. was able to establish in February 1942 that the springs, were indeed the original Fountain of Youth. Maybe I’ll just come here once a week now!! Too bad the surrounding buildings which once housed a visitors’ center, display cases and gift shop were destroyed by hurricanes the last several years. The county now owns the facility and plans to construct new buildings. However plans are not yet complete. Stay tuned! Note there is a $15 Florida resident entrance fee. It’s definitely worth the visit!

Community Message By Jeff Smith, LMA President There are so many things to enjoy in our community, the Nature Trail, Dick Bayles Park, and the beauty of the mature landscape surrounding us just to name a few. We all take pleasure in enjoying the outside with our family, friends, neighbors, and pets. Speaking of pets, The Landings seems to be home to more and more dogs of every different shape and size.
That is a good thing. What is not, is that a very small minority of dog owners are not picking up after their dog. Please don’t detract from the beauty of our community by not removing dog waste. Thank you, all your neighbors will appreciate your diligence in this matter. The Landings Management Association.

The LMA Social Committee, which intends to serve as the umbrella for several committees, is working to develop more activities, while enhancing and increasing the “advertising” of current offerings. room for more and LMA’s Social Committee hopes to support current and future events in ways that will be most helpful to their success and fun. We need to hear from you! In January, the LMA Social Committee sponsored refreshments to the Presidents’ Circle social g at h e r i n g. W h o k e e p s t h i s community humming better than Association Presidents whose jobs have become more difficult with recent insurance and legislation? Currently, we are working with LMA Communications chair, Eddie Goldstein, to get all the various activities described and highlighted on the newly emerging website. We want a place where residents view “What’s Happening”, while providing a vehicle for volunteers and “idea folks” to contribute. How about an event to honor all the volunteers who contribute enormously? How about establishing a book club? Wha’s your idea?

LMA Security Report
By Beverly Leidel
We sailed away to the Greek Islands on a real clipper ship by a Swede to mirror the ones that sailed 100 years ago. There are three Star Clippers and they sail from ports around our globe. Ten of our family met in Athens at the end of June to sail the Aegean to Kusadasi, Turkey and then northern

Greek islands including Patmos The Eagle Has Landed where the Apostle John wrote the last book of the Bible. We sailed under prevailing winds, traveled ship to shore in tenders, and three of us climbed the 33-rung rope rigging to the crow’s nest. It was a trip long planned by Michael who left us one year ago.

CRITTER OF THE MONTH Cockatiel
Welcome to Seascape Aquarium & Pet Center. We have:
• 10,000 feet of showrooms • 25,000 gallons of freshwater, salt water and coral.
Nymphicus hollandicus
Cockatiels are the perfect pet small/medium sized bird. Cockatiels aare smart enough to stay friendly, small enough to not need an oversized cage, and quiet enough to keep the neighbors happy too! While difficult to get these birds to "talk" like some of their larger parrot relatives, cockatiels are fantastic at whistling tunes. It doesn't take long to teach all of your favorite jingles to your bird buddy! Cockatiels typically live an average of 15-20 years, so a cockatiel is a friend that will be around for quite a long time. If you're looking for a friendly bird buddy to hang out on your shoulder and whistle along to your favorite songs with you, a cockatiel might just be for you! Typical appearance and behavior • Cockatiels come in many different varieties. Some are grey, white, or yellow, and some are combinations of each! • While both males and females can learn sounds and tunes, males tend to be more vocal. • Cockatiels are social birds and love interaction. They are fantastic pets for anyone who spends a lot of time at home. • Cockatiels can learn tricks just like a dog! They can learn to step up, roll over, jump through hoops, and even solve simple puzzles for the right reward!
