opportunity to compete with other kids his age and experience level, which didn't happen often.
“It’s such a beautiful neighborhood with so much to offer; we were never bored”, recalled Danzig.
Danzig was upset when his family moved out of The Landings in 1995. He promised himself that he would move to the neighborhood as an adult, so he could once again enjoy the beauty and adventure of being a Landings resident.
After The Landings, Danzig moved with his family to a house near Southside School, where he spent the remainder of his childhood.
Those familiar with The Landings have fallen in love with the neighborhood, and Landings resident Evan Danzig is no exception. He fulfilled his childhood promise of returning to The Landings as an adult.
Danzig was born in The Landings and spent the first eight years of his life in the neighborhood.
He attended the Out-of-Door Academy on Siesta Key. His parents were the first owners of 1724 Landings Boulevard.
“I loved growing up in The Landings”, said Danzig.
Danzig recalled the thrilling opportunities the neighborhood provided him and his friends to explore the outdoors. They were constantly in the pool and loved riding bikes on the Nature Trail.
As a child, he found a great community with the other children in the neighborhood. They enjoyed scouting the Eagle Preserve and spending time at the Racquet Club. His favorite memories from his childhood centered around the summer tennis camp at the Racquet Club. He said it was an
Danzig attended college at UCF in Orlando and studied real estate. He moved to New York City immediately after graduation. Danzig pursued real estate in New York City. Since 2011, he has been a residential real estate broker.
He met his wife, Carly, in New York. They married in 2015. Their daughter, Dakota, was born in 2018.
Danzig and his family moved back to The Landings in the Spring of 2021. His childhood influenced his decision, and he wanted a quiet gated community for his daughter to grow up in.
Danzig feels lucky that they found and renovated the perfect house. “The Landings is so unique and, in my opinion, the best location in town”, said Danzig.
Danzig is a local real estate agent with Michael Saunders. However, he still maintains his real estate sales business in New York City. He travels to New York multiple times per month.
Although it has been busy with the recent expansion to Sarasota, he enjoys being able to experience both locations.
Though Danzig and his family didn’t move into his childhood home, he couldn’t be happier to be a resident again.
He loves exploring nature trails and going on walks with his daughter. He enjoys walking up to The Landings Shopping Center for dinner. His daughter recently began taking tennis lessons at the Racquet Club. Danzig is happy and nostalgic that she can experience his favorite part of childhood.
Even though years have passed, Danzig doesn’t think much has changed. There have been beautiful updates to maintain the premises. He noticed the upgrades to the shopping center and believes it is a luxury to have nearby. Besides that, he says it’s the same
neighborhood he fell in love with as a child.
He especially appreciates the consistency throughout the years of the variance in architecture.
He recognizes that many gated communities contain homes that look almost identical. However, the Landings’ variety makes it unique and special.
A significant part of any neighborhood is the people and community. Danzig recounts that everyone he has met has been super friendly. He recalls the large number of young families in
The Landings when he grew up. Danzig notices that there aren’t as many now but sees it may revert to that trend with more
young families moving in. Overall, he believes the neighborhood consists of a great mix of people.
To anyone growing up in The Landings today, Danzig advises you to enjoy it. He says children should take advantage of the great opportunities in the neighborhood. The Landings is a great place to walk, bike, run, and explore. He urges everyone to go outside and appreciate nature.
On the opportunities of The Landings, Evan said, “Very few neighborhoods offer all of that, and in this day and age with so much technology around us, it’s really a luxury to have all of that right outside your door.”

Compost Update
ByMaralynKaufman-David,Environmental CommitteeChairperson
The first compost station in The Landings has been carefully monitored and adjusted since our last update in the July issue of the Eagle.
Susan Singer and several dedicated Landings resident volunteers have continued to diligently care for the compost bins over the summer months and aided by modifications suggested by Tracie Troxler of Sunshine Community Compost.
As of mid-August, bins 1, 2, and 3 were ready to be sifted and put to good use. As such, Susan and volunteers have been working towards sifting and bagging the mulch (into an earth friendly paper bags).
At the time of this update, ideas for distribution of the mulch include donating to the LMA Landscape Committee and/or distribute to participants who want a first cycle
sample of the compost.
As Susan pointed out, “It would be great to begin anew with a second cycle of our compost bins so we can have another batch ready by the end of the year.” We will begin the second cycle of composting in September. The lessons we learned in our first compost cycle are using fewer ‘browns’ on top of each food scrap deposit, using fewer leaves and more high nitrogen content dense wood twigs, straw, and woodchips as our ‘browns’, and remembering to not add animal products, dairy items, or oils.
Please note that if you have already been signed up for the composting, you will be contacted by email about the opening date of cycle 2 of the compost station. If you have already been signed up and do not receive an email, please let me know at mkaufmanphd@gmail.com.

Introducing the New LMA Website ByEddieGoldstein,ChairDigitalCommunicationsCommittee
A community wide email was sent August 14 th announcing the new LMA Resident Website. By the time you are reading this article, hopefully you will have had the chance to log in, look around, and perhaps provide feedback.
The culmination of many months of work by the LMA Digital Communications Committee and other dedicated community volunteers, we hope that you will find this new communication center to be relevant and easy to use.
Why Did We Create a New Resident Website?
In early 2022, the Landings Management Association (LMA) recognized that The Landings needed a website that would be a useful tool for the entire community. LMA appointed a Website Committee to address issues identified with the former website: e.g., lack of user- friendliness, difficulty navigating and finding information, lack of security, out-of-date information, and lack of centralized website administration. The Committee has worked steadily since then, analyzing needs, developing strategy, identifying resources, and ultimately creating and implementing the newly released resident website.
This past Spring two very important LMA initiatives reinforced the need for a new site: From the Landings Resident Survey results, the following was cited as one of the top two priority areas identified by residents: “Better communication (LMA Comms + Website)” and identified as High Priority in the LMA Five Year Plan: “Upgrade website to improve user interface/user experience + ensure updating and data accuracy”.
Note: you can find both complete documents in the LMA News section of the website: (https://residents. thelandingsofsarasota.com/lma-news/).
The release of the new site is a significant and foundational step towards realizing these goals.
Volunteers and Vendors
The volunteer Committee (now called the Digital Communications Committee) members are Eddie Goldstein (Chair), Dick Bayles, John McFetridge, Elida Ramberger. We appreciate the extremely helpful involvement by many members of the LMA Board, the Governance Committee, several Committee Chairs and Association Presidents, and Kevin Lechlitner and LRC Staff. The vendors we work with are Suncoast Marketing (for the build and hosting) and Pinnacle Property Management, who will be maintaining logins, updates, and the Resident Directory.
How to Access and Log into the Site
To open the login page, go to https:// residents.thelandingsofsarasota.com/.
Click the Login button at the top of the page. Enter the exact same username and password you currently use to access the former resident portion of the website (new credentials not needed), and press LOG IN.
If you do not have, or do not know, your username and password, select the REGISTER button. Complete the registration form, and you will be supplied with the proper credentials within 24-48 hours. See complete instructions with links in the Aug. 14 email.
Tour of The Site
The best way to tour the site is….to go the site! But below is an overview of what you will find:
Home Page: After logging in you will land on the homepage where you will see topical announcements and links (e.g., Roads Restoration Project Updates). The Search Box is in the upper right-hand
corner appears on every page.
Calendar: Updated continually, this interactive calendar displays all Landings events, activities, and business meetings, indicating if they are for all Landings Residents, or for LRC members only; each post includes relevant information about the event. There are also clear instructions on how to schedule an event. We thank the LRC staff for maintaining this very important resource.
Resident Directory: This is sortable by association or keyword. You are invited to check your individual profile and submit any corrections or changes via the form provided.
Landings Management Association (LMA): Board members and contact information, Board minutes, finances, governing docs, committees, and news (president’s reports, the 5 Year Plan, the recent survey results).
Committees: A list of all LMA Committees, with links to individual pages for each committee.
We welcome community involvement, so please reach out to relevant Committee Chairs if you would like to get involved or have suggestions.
Associations: A map of all Landings Associations (there are 21!), with links to individual pages for each Association.
Racquet Club: Information and resources for LRC members.
Resident Resources: Links to Eagle newspaper (current and past issues), and various resources of topical interest, maps, forms, Dwelling Live information.
Emergency Information: Procedures, contact information, links to County resources.
Your Site, Your Input. Success Depends on Feedback The success of the website - its relevance, utility, and user friendliness -
depends on community feedback now and in the future. Perennially a "work in progress” the goal is continuous improvements in response to user interaction and comments. All suggestions and comments will be reviewed and implemented as appropriate and as resources permit. We are looking forward to hearing from you! web@ thelandingsofsarasota.com
On the Horizon for the Digital Communications Committee
As needs were identified, the taskforce that was originally founded to address the website only has now evolved into a group titled the Digital Communications Committee. The recent website release is just one piece of an entire strategy aimed at improving LMA Digital Communications overall.
Other areas being worked on are: development of a revised public facing Landings website; establishment of a single, secure, managed database of resident information integrated with multiple systems that support our community; improving email communications; revising LMA forms so that they are standardized and web based; clarification of new resident processes and procedures (in conjunction with the LMA Governance & Security Committees); collaboration with the Eagle Newspaper Committee, assisting Committee charged with implementing a Landings facility on site that can provide the high-quality audio/visual experience needed for LMA board and other meetings.
How Can You Help?
If you have skills that you think can be helpful, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact me at e.goldstein5@gmail.com.

Polynesian Paradise
This summer we were fortunate to spend three weeks in French Polynesia to celebrate my husband Jeff’s 70 th birthday (don’t tell anyone!). I expected a variant of Hawaii, given its proximity. We were stunned by Polynesia’s natural beauty, and enjoyed meeting the friendly locals who embrace their ethnic culture in day- to-day, more so than seen on Hawaii.
The Polynesian islands are often encircled by coral reefs called atolls, creating vibrant turquoise lagoons.
Green-felted Mountain peaks from ancient volcanoes drop precipitously to the sandy shores.
So, where the heck is French Polynesia? It’s in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, due south of Hawaii, below the equator. A mere 8 hours flying time from LAX, not so bad.
They are a French colony, made up of 118 islands that span 1200 miles, yet their landmass fits inside Rhode Island! Tahiti is one of the larger islands, containing the capital Papeete; other popular islands you may have heard of are Bora Bora and Moorea. The 250,000 Polynesians are friendly and warmhearted, taking pride in their distinct culture which includes tribal tattoos, music, and dancing.
After spending a week relaxing in a seaside house on the island of Moorea, we took a cruise with Paul Gaugin to sample some of the other islands. There was a fun mix of passengers, with many from France, Australia, and New Zealand.
We loved the local dishes such as poke tuna bowls, fresh mahi mahi, parrot fish, and tropical fruits like mangos, kiwis, and papayas. Since July is dry season, the weather was delightful, with highs of 78 degrees and lows of 74; way more comfortable than humid hot Florida in July!
Every day brought a new adventure. We e-biked through the mountains to riding wave runners to explore the coastline.
It was energizing to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters, swimming past vibrant coral gardens filled with schools of colorful tropical fish, spotting the occasional moray eel or octopus to keep us on our toes. We spotted humpback whales from the ship, migrating northward from Antarctica and sipped fruity Mai Tais on a catamaran sunset sail. What’s not to like?
One day, we swam in a shallow lagoon with slippery stingrays and supposedly friendly 5-foot Blacktip sharks.
It was nerve wracking to see a school of sharks swim directly at us, encircling us just fingertips away, seriously?? Guess what?
Kevin Lechlitner from LRC told me that we have lots of these Blacktip sharks just off our coast.
The last part of our voyage took us to the remote Tuamotu Islands, each island comprises a circle of narrow coral atolls about a half a mile wide but has no center mainland like the bigger islands. These islands are tight- knit communities with just a few hundred residents; it takes a multi-day ferry ride to get to modern facilities on the capital island of Tahiti. To attend high school, island kids who must go to boarding school on Tahiti; local women go to Tahiti when they are seven months pregnant to deliver their babies. Given no natural water supply, they collect rainwater and occasionally must ship it in. It’s hard to imagine being that far from “civilization”, yet most residents seemed content with their peaceful island existence, happy to avoid the busy traffic and commerce on Tahiti.
French Polynesia surely lived up to its reputation as a tropical paradise, and luckily it isn’t yet over-touristed. It fit the bill as a tranquil getaway, full of adventure, dramatic landscapes, and pristine beaches. I’m ready to return!

Fishing at the Gazebo
BytheFishWhisperer
They sing “summertime….and the living is easy”. Not so fishing at the Gazebo. Both the number and quantity of fish caught on each outing in August has been significant. Mostly mangrove snapper, some of significant size, and for the first time this year, several good size black drum.
Also, an occasional toad fish and silver jenny. Even a sting ray. Recently, the fish whisperer was joined by John Weeks. If you, a family member or guest is interested in learning to fish at the gazebo, contact the Fish Whisperer at nfpconsultingresources@gmail.com He provides free lessons and tackle.

CRITTER OF THE MONTH Bearded Dragon
Our store has many bearded dragons available in all sizes and age.
Perhaps the most popular pet lizard, bearded dragons are originally from the deserts of central Australia. "Bearded" refers to the extendable flap of skin under their chin that turns black when they are stressed, displaying dominance or being territorial. They are usually even-tempered, docile, easy to tame, bond closely with their caretakers and are generally hardy when cared for properly.
Typical bearded dragon appearance & behavior
• Tolerates handling and interaction with humans
• In nature, their skin is tan-colored, but they have been bred for a variety of di erent colors and patterns
• Communicate with each other through gestures such as “arm waving,” in which they lift a front leg and wave it back and forth in submission to another lizard.
• They also bob their head as part of their mating ritual or to display dominance
• Will spend their day in a hiding spot, basking and climbing.

I am a seven-year-old Jack Russell and Corgi mix and as my owners Lou and Amy Grossman say, “And God knows what else!”
I was rescued in Arcadia when I was about four years old. My owners claim everything I am quite the showman and everything I do makes them laugh all day long.
My tail is in constant motion. I patiently wait every night for my chewie that Lou drops on the kitchen floor. I run, grab it, and hightail it to my cage in the spare bedroom. That’s it for the rest of the evening. I’m off duty entertaining.
Mealtime is one of my favorite times of the day. I jump and twirl in the air until the bowl is put on the floor. I am also an acrobat.
Oh, I am quite the ladies’ man, too. I follow Amy everywhere she goes around the house and when female guests arrive, I choose to sit by them. Hey, I am a cool dude.
Lou’s role in this is to take me for walks and give me treats.
I’m fairly popular in The Landings due to my enchanting eyes and winning smile. I know how to get treats. However, Raccoons and feral cats should beware. My German Shepherd side appears, and my bark is ferocious. I’m not fond of speeders either, by the way. Stop sign runners, GRRRRRRR…
Lou and Amy say I give them so much joy. That’s my job, as I see it. I guess I rescued them.

Walking is important because:
It can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years, old to spend an additional 5-months in a nursing home at $7000 per month. I must walk early in the morning before my brain figures out what I’m doing.
If you’re going cross country walking, start with a real small country.
My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he’s 97 years old and we don’t know
where he is.
I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. I haven’t lost a pound. Apparently, you must go there!
My walk in the hills, had its upand-downs.
Try a brisk walk on the Nature Trail and enjoy the outdoors; the natural surroundings clear the mind. Also, another reason to take up walking so that you can hear heavy breathing again!!!

The Landings January bike outing to Myakka Park was a great success. Lots of gators and wildlife seen throughout the park including this limpkin, pictured above. The Bird and Canopy Walk were closed due to Hurricane Ian damage but we were able to identify some great hiking trails to explore on our own and during future visits.
It’s general knowledge, “a grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.” We’re a mixture of those three little bits that make for one of the greatest joys life can gift us. Being a grandparent is different
from being a parent like vanilla and chocolate ice cream. It’s something we never would have shown our sons or daughters- like slipping them a candy bar or allowing staying up later watching TV on the sofa when babysitting.
But, for moms, it’s a job that requires no experience, gives no training, pays nothing, and has no days off! Yet, “home is where your mom is”. (Remember who made you!)
