FISH NEWS By Ginny Benjamins Dear FISH Volunteers: Neil Miller, 239-218-9867, has taken over as FISH’s Equipment Manager. Thank you to Jim Hinrichs for all his fast responses to delivering any needed equipment to Del Tura’s residents. Senior Friendship Centers has announced the end of the Lee County RSVP project activities as of May 15, 2020. The only way this affects our Del Tura FISH program is that we will no longer have the umbrella insurance policy over our drivers that we have enjoyed for a very long time. However, when FISH was organized in 1989, it was done to assist our residents and that has not changed. We will continue to do what FISH has always done. In the twenty-five years that we have been a part of RSVP no one in Del Tura has ever had to use the umbrella car insurance. If you feel this would change your status as a driver, we will remove you from our driver’s list, but we are hoping that will not be necessary. Our administrator, Betty Scheetz, wants everyone to know that all personal information you may have given (such as your birth date and driver license number) was shredded immediately.
We also at this time feel we should bring Covid-19 into the conversation. If you feel you do not wish to be too close to anyone we certainly understand. It is always your right as a FISH volunteer driver to refuse any requests to drive. You never need to state an excuse. We will just ask you again at a later date. We will continue to collect the hours you volunteer until the end of 2020, and then we will make a final decision. So please turn in your hours.
