HOME SERVICES

In the last quarter of 2022 mother nature brought some tough challenges; most notably Hurricane Ian in late September and Nicole in early November. With the inundation of rainfall from both storms coupled with the heavy rains we received over the summer, it has taken its toll on most our landscapes. As quickly as the storms passed, the effects of the storms are just now starting to be seen. Some palm species such as canary island date palms and bismarkia palms are showing signs of stress from the persistent heavy winds sustained from both storms. Both palm species are treated quarterly with an inoculant to help prevent the spread of disease, however, the constant wind blowing can have an adverse effect on the terminal bud of all palm species and will need to be monitored closely in the coming months. Over the Christmas holidays mother nature brought us some unseasonably cold temperatures resulting in some burn of some of our tender plant species. Hibiscus, crotons, ixora, and arbicola trinnetts did receive tip burn in some areas. These plant species will be cut back in the coming months to prepare for our spring flush.

As we move forward into late winter/early spring, we eagerly anticipate our last potential frost date which typically is mid-February. Once we reach that time frame our focus will be on plant cutbacks, turf/shrub fertilizations and spring flower installations. Please keep in mind that we still are under mandatory water restrictions of one (1) day a week. With our up and down temperature pattern, this becomes a challenge as we turn irrigation systems off when temperatures dip into the 30’s, which has been the case during a few weekends so far this season, resulting in a missed watering time frame. Our team continues to monitor all landscapes closely and will spot water as needed.
