A
s summer draws to a close, we look forward to one of the busiest seasons at Isleworth. Fall is filled with time-honored traditional club events and some of the most popular Member activities on our annual calendar. It is also a special season at the Club with Members and families returning from summer holidays and adventures. The summer maintenance program on the golf course was successful, with Sean Duffy and the entire grounds team doing a terrific job maintaining the golf course this summer with no course closures and a minimum of nine holes always open. The new front and back nine flag system was also popular with the Members and importantly, put the course in a strong position to be in peak form this upcoming fall tournament season.

Throughout the clubhouse, we continue to work on our various improvements, and we are looking forward to the enhanced Windermere formal dining restaurant and Chase Court event space. Both rooms will feature updated furnishings and new dĂŠcor, with bathroom enhancements and new wine storage in Chase Court. Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Members to the annual Mix & Mingle Party, stage the famous Monster Mash Halloween event and host the 2018 Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in October. Over the years, that tournament has brought many now professional players to Isleworth, including Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler and J.B. Holmes. This highlights the strength of this collegiate event and with the Saturday College-Am tournament which debuted last year, we hope that you will join us and play alongside the future stars of the game around your course. We look forward to a busy and exciting fall at Isleworth and hope to see you and your families soon.

H O W T O P L AY CHARGING BULL
HOLE #1 BY SCOTT HOCH
T
he first hole at Isleworth is not your typical starting hole, as so many starting holes tend to be straight. The bunker short of the dog leg punishes poorly struck drives or overly aggressive tee shots into the wind. Short hitters are forced to play down the lefthand side of the fairway, leaving a longer second shot to an elevated green well-protected by bunkers. Longer hitters must be keenly aware of the out of bounds long and left of a pulled drive. The green is structured with four distinct tiers for a variety of hole locations. Even with a well-struck drive, positioning the second shot is critical for a realistic chance at birdie, which is a great way to start a round.

TIPS & SKILLS GR AHAM ALRUTZ , Assistant
Tennis Professional
I
would like to share with you one of my favorite strategies when serving in doubles: serving down the "T." This simple but effective tactic gives your partner the best chance to poach and finish the point from the first ball.
Players usually think the best strategy is to hit out wide and push the opponents out of the court. However, when you place your serve down the “T,” you close the angles for your opponent and this is a big advantage in doubles as the opponents will have a harder time to keep the ball away from you and your partner. Here is another benefit — as the “net player,” you can anticipate the return almost every time. It doesn’t matter if your opponents know your serve is coming down the “T” or not. Finally, as your team executes this strategy for a couple of games, you will see the pressure your opponents will feel, causing unforced errors and bad return choices. Try this strategy in your next match and see how your opponents will dread playing against you. Graham Alrutz recently joined the Isleworth Tennis Staff as a part-time Assistant Tennis Professional. He is currently playing in the professional tour and is excited to share his knowledge with our Members.
