Islington Council Leader's message 29 May 2020

A message from Islington Council: Keep going to save lives It’s hard to put into words how proud I am of the way that Islington has responded to the coronavirus outbreak.

As Leader of Islington Council, my top priority is keeping the borough safe and supporting those that need help.

At this extremely difficult time, people across our borough have united to selflessly help others, in particular our most vulnerable residents, through their generous donations of food, money and time.

Our frontline staff are working tirelessly to do just that too, but they need you to keep doing your bit to support them whilst they deliver vital services and protect our most vulnerable residents.

If you do have to go outside, please make sure that you socially distance by remaining at least two metres away from others, avoid using public transport unless you really have to, and please wear a non-medical facemask in enclosed spaces.

The sad reality is that, although our hard work so far has helped to contain this terrible virus, there is still more work to be done.

It’s really important to remember that we will get through this, we will beat this virus by all working together, and doing our bit.

Complacency now will only cost more lives, meaning it’s crucial that we all keep following the rules.

Please keep going. Follow the rules to save lives and protect our NHS.

So many across Islington have made huge sacrifices during this challenging period, by staying at home, by not seeing your loved ones, and by supporting the council’s efforts to get through this. I want to thank each and every one of you for doing your bit to keep Islington safe.

So please, keep staying at home as much as you possibly can. I understand that it’s difficult in

this period of sunny weather, but I urge you to remember that your restraint will save lives.

Cllr Richard Watts, Leader of Islington Council
