A message from Islington Council: Stay home to save lives Islington’s “clap for carers” has shown our huge gratitude for the incredible work of our NHS staff, and other key workers. This weekend you can truly help them – by staying at home. A huge, huge thanks to the very many of you who are already doing this. We are seeing emptier streets, parks and open spaces. Today is the start of the Easter weekend. It’s due to be a warm one – but the message from the NHS and the Government could not be clearer: unless you are going out for vital trips or to exercise once per day, stay at home.

Even if you don’t care about your own safety, please pause to think about others. You can pass on the virus without realising you have it, and the person who catches it from you may become very seriously ill. They could die. Our parks are open for essential exercise – but not for picnics or sunbathing. We cannot let public health be put at risk and we will again be monitoring parks this weekend. Please help us keep them safe and open. So please, keep doing what you’ve been doing and stay at home – and if you are out for essential reasons or exercise keep a 2 metre distance from other people.

I know this is hard for all of us, and it’s really important we all look after our mental health, especially during such an uncertain time. So, if you are struggling, please talk to somebody about it. There is plenty of support, as well as guidance on helplines, available at www.nhs.uk/ conditions/stress-anxiety-depression. Thank you to everyone continuing to provide vital services over the Easter weekend. The most important way we can help those on the front line is to stay at home. Cllr Richard Watts, Leader of Islington Council

Going to the park?

Help us keep parks open by enjoying your exercise responsibly. These simple rules will help keep you and the people around you stay safe:

2m

Stay at least 2 metres from others at all times Keep your dog on a lead and at a safe distance from others No group sports – the park is for outdoor exercise once a day No sunbathing, picnics or BBQs

If you are jogging... Don’t overtake unless there is room Avoid busy routes

How we’re changing our services The council is focusing on continuing to provide key services to our residents, such as rubbish and recycling collection and social care, and is working hard to support our most vulnerable people. To keep providing these services, and in response to social distancing measures, we’ve made changes to many services. Here are the latest changes: • The cemeteries at Trent Park and Islington & St Pancras are closed to the public.

• Our textile banks are closed. • All street markets are closed until further notice. • Our housing repairs team are focusing on essential maintenance, safety checks and emergency repairs only. Please report emergency repairs by phone only, not online. For more information, see www.islington. gov.uk/contact-us/changes-to-servicestips/

What you need to do to stop the spread You may be used to going out at Easter, but it’s so important we all save lives by staying at home. Remember, egg hunts can be done at home and you can catch up with loved ones on the phone or by video call.

If you do go out, keep your distance by standing at least two metres away from others. Even those without symptoms can spread coronavirus, so act like you’ve got it.

The only circumstances in which you should go outside are to shop for necessities, to take exercise once a day, for a medical need, or to travel to and from work.

If you do have to go out, keep your distance. Stand at least 2m (6ft 6in), roughly the length of two supermarket trolleys, away from others. Remember coronavirus can be spread even by those who do not display symptoms.

Self-isolate for seven days if you start displaying any symptoms, including a new, continuous cough and/or a high temperature. Anyone you live with should self-isolate for 14 days from the day you developed symptoms.
