Islington Council Leader's message 5 June 2020

A message from Islington Council: Keep staying safe I can’t put into words how proud I am of the way that Islington has responded to the coronavirus outbreak. We’re fortunate to live in such a wonderful borough, where people always pull together in times of crisis and stand united in the face of adversity. I am so grateful to those in our community that have selflessly helped others, particularly our most vulnerable residents, and to the many people in Islington that have made huge sacrifices by staying at home for so long. Although we all want this crisis to be over, I know that many in our borough are concerned that the Government is taking risks, and that the lockdown

is being eased prematurely. In my role as Council Leader, my top priority is the health and safety of everyone in Islington. That is why the Council is taking a safety-first approach to everything we do. We’ll keep enforcing social distancing rules to keep our wonderful parks and greenspaces safe, we will keep supporting local businesses and traders to keep staff and customers safe, and we’re working hard to create people friendly streets all over Islington to make our streets safer and more pleasant for all. But to keep Islington safe, we need you to keep doing your bit too. By sticking to the rules, you’re saving lives. So please, keep staying at home as

much as possible. If you need to go out, stay two metres from anyone from outside your household. Please avoid using public transport, unless you really need to. If you are in an enclosed place, like public transport or a shop, then please wear a non-medical face covering. And do not forget to regularly wash your hands. This crisis is far from over. Please keep yourself, your family, friends, neighbours and the amazing key workers safe. By sticking together and all doing our bit, we will get through this. Thank you for keeping Islington safe. Cllr Richard Watts, Leader of Islington Council
