A message from Islington Council: You can make a difference I want to thank every person in our borough who has made sacrifices in recent weeks to help contain the spread of coronavirus.

get complacent. Keep saving lives by staying at home and social distancing when using our parks and open spaces for exercise.

You will be able to discuss your options and be given online training as part of the application process.

By staying at home and continuing to follow the Government’s guidance on social distancing, you are saving lives. Many of us had very different Easter weekends to usual, and we’re grateful to you.

And there’s another way to step up and make a difference at this challenging time: The care sector needs support to provide essential care to some of our most vulnerable residents, and help ease pressure on the NHS as it tackles coronavirus.

Caring for others is enormously fulfilling, and makes a real difference to people in the local community here in Islington. So if you want to get involved I urge you to register your interest now, by completing the short online survey at www.proudtocarelondon.org.uk or you can speak to our iWork team on 020 7527 2706.

I know that it’s hard to stay at home, especially with the warmer weather, but it’s also vital. Our incredible NHS staff are working day and night to treat those affected by this virus, and we owe it to them to all do our bit. So please, don’t

Councils across London have launched the Proud to Care portal to help recruit local people to a range of short-term, paid roles, providing invaluable support to adults in their own homes or in residential settings.

Thanks again – by working together and supporting each other, we will get through this. Cllr Richard Watts, Leader of Islington Council

What you need to do It’s so important that we all save lives by staying at home. Doing so is challenging, but remember that you can catch up with loved ones on the phone or by video call. The only circumstances in which you should go outside are to shop for necessities, to take exercise once a day, for a medical need, or to travel to and from work if you can’t work from home. Self-isolate for seven days if you start displaying any symptoms, including a new, continuous cough and/or a high temperature. Anyone you live with should self-isolate for 14 days from the day you developed symptoms. Even if you’ve not left home for a while, wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds. If you do have to go out, keep your distance. Stand at least 2m (6ft 6in), roughly the length of two supermarket trolleys, away from others. Remember coronavirus can be spread even by those who do not display symptoms.

How we’re changing our services The council is focusing on providing key services to our residents, such as recycling and refuse collection, child safeguarding and housing support. To effectively provide these services, and in response to social distancing measures, we’ve made changes to some of our other services. Here are the latest alterations: • Our housing repairs team are focussing on essential maintenance, safety checks and emergency repairs only. Please report emergency repairs by phone only, not online.

The care sector needs you more than ever… to provide essential care and support to elderly and vulnerable people. During the Covid-19 crisis social care, alongside the NHS, is vital to helping people recover. We’re actively recruiting, for temporary and permanent sta.

• The cemeteries at Trent Park and East Finchley are closed to the public. • We remain committed to tackling anti-social behaviour. If you’re experiencing excess noise from a neighbour, you can report this online. We will not be visiting people in their homes to assess noise complaints, but will make an external assessment.
