DADA MOVEMENT • A cultural movement that began in
Zürich, Switzerland, during World War I and peaked from 1916 to 1920. • The movement primarily involved
visual arts, literature, theatre, and graphic design. • Concentrated on anti-war politics.
DADA’S PURPOSE • Dada writers and artists were
concerned with shock, protest, and nonsense. • Rebelled against horrors of
war, decadence of European society, shallowness of blind faith in technological progress, & inadequacy of religion and conventional moral codes
