LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

W

elcome to Newcastle Days! Today we join with our friends and neighbors to celebrate Newcastle’s 22nd birthday. This year’s emphasis is about continued change. Development continues at a rapid pace with activities at Newcastle Commons, Aegis Gardens, Newcastle Way Apartments, Residences at Lake Boren, Renton Woods Subdivision and the new Vera Risdon Middle School. The city staff is working with the owners and contractors to ensure these developments work well with our existing neighborhoods, while bringing new amenities to our residents. After the success of last year, Newcastle Days will once again include Broadway at Boren on Friday night. Come and listen to your neighbors

“Sing Under the Stars.” Saturday will begin with a parade and the car show. There will still be the pony rides, petting zoo, inflatables, high school City of Newcastle robotics, a Mayor Rich Crispo pickle ball tournament, exhibits by our volunteer organizations (Historical Society, Trails and Weed Warriors), food vendors and a number of non-food vendor tents. Performances begin at 1 p.m. The Beatles tribute band Crème Tangerine at 4 p.m. and our own Alan White and his band at 5:30 are just

two of four highlights. And of course, the Chamber will once again provide the Beer Garden. Waste Management is the prime sponsor for this year’s event. Newcastle Commons, UW/Valley Medical, Aegis Garden, SolTerrra, HomeStreet Bank, the Animal Hospital of Newport Hills and The Golf Club at Newcastle are also supporting Newcastle Days. We are also thrilled to partner with several new local area businesses for sponsorship this year: Scott Donogh Homes, Summit Primary Care, QFC, ATI Physical Therapy, and Julie & Ben Varon – The Cascade Team! Sponsorship from the business community is what enables the city to put on our series of summer events. Stop by and say hello. The Community Activities Commission and the city staff have worked hard to make this year’s Newcastle Days about fun and community. Visit the Newcastle booth and find out about the future plans for your city and how you can be a part of them. Visit the Historical Society and find out how the early residents of Newcastle celebrated holidays when they lived in the second-largest city in the state. This event is about fun. So do your best to enjoy yourself and remember how the past got us to where we are today; the 18th most livable small city in the United States. Rich Crispo Mayor of Newcastle
