ISSH Junior College Students The residential IB Diploma Programme at ISSH Junior College is designed for students in the last two years of their secondary education. It caters for young people who want to finish their studies in an English-speaking environment in order to prepare for higher education abroad. ISSH students are open-minded and interested in other cultures with a clear understanding of their own cultural identity. They embrace the core values of ISSH: Be Unique, Take Responsibility, Achieve Potential.

Academics The IB Diploma Programme is an academically challenging curriculum in which students select six courses from 5 subject groups, thus ensuring breadth of experience in languages, social studies, the sciences and mathematics. Three subjects are studied at higher level for a total of 240 teaching hours. The remaining three subjects are studied at standard level at 150 teaching hours. For more info see www.ibo.org Students take written examinations at the end of the programme which are marked by external IB examiners. This procedure ensures that all students are assessed by the same standards.

Residential Life Students study and live together in a group of like-minded international students. In the ISSH residence near the school, or in one of our selected host families, they experience how it is to live in a different culture. House parents and mentors provide learning support and ensure a home-away-from-home for all students. Together with their new friends, they will take part in after-school activities, such as field trips and the CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) Programme, which is one of the core requirements of the IB Diploma Programme. CAS encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports and community service, thus fostering their awareness and appreciation of life outside the academic arena.

Schaffhausen - a Welcoming International Community ISSH Junior College is located in the charming city of Schaffhausen, the capital of one of the smaller cantons of Switzerland, where many international companies have their headquarters. Schaffhausen has a big expatriate community: more than 20% of the Schaffhausen inhabitants are foreign nationals; most of them live here with their families. Zurich airport and the reliable Swiss railway provide opportunities to discover European capitals and international hubs like Geneva and Strasbourg. The natural beauty of the Rhine and the famous waterfalls amongst green pastures offers easy access to sporting activities in nature such as cycling, running and swimming. The comprehensive public transport system and the safety and cosiness of this town contribute to an ideal environment for young people to grow and develop.

Applications Application is open to students (minimum age 16), who have finished the IB Middle Years Programme or equivalent in their current school. All applicants are required to take entrance tests in English and Mathematics. Depending on the outcome of the tests, applicants who not yet have the proficiency in English to embark on the diploma courses, will need to enrol for an intensive summer language course in English or be offered a place in MY Grade 10, in order to acquire the language skills required to undertake the Diploma Programme. Scholarships are available to talented students who can make a positive contribution to the ISSH community.
