So I walk in the forest at night and early morning, and look for a sign of the memory these trees hold within. Their roots go down three times their height and, after what they have witnessed, they are bound to protect it forever. W 4

About
ISSP
ISSP About ISSP Association ISSP is a non-commercial education and networking platform that works to offer high-quality education for young and emerging photographers in Latvia and internationally, and to encourage the cross-border exchange of ideas in photography. Since its establishment in 2006, ISSP has yearly run the International Summer School of Photography, initiated various international education and exchange projects, curated several exhibitions, produced a number of publications, established a contemporary photography education programme in Latvia, and, most importantly, gathered a thriving community of emerging photographers in Latvia and abroad. The International Summer School of Photography Designed for young professionals, students of photography and art, and artists working with photography, the International Summer School of Photography (ISSP) takes place in Latvia every August since 2006. The ISSP offers six advanced masterclasses by renowned international photography masters in a wonderful setting that makes close interaction between the participants an integral part of the event. Each of the students produces a photography project under the guidance of their workshop mentor. The final works are presented at the ISSP exhibition, which opens in Kuldīga on the last day of the school, web galleries, and this publication. The ISSP supports the advancement of talented photographers by broadening their artistic vision and creating a strong international support network. ISSP 2014 took place from 2 to 10 August 2014, in Pelči, Kuldīga district, hosting 71 participants from 26 countries. For the first time, a special workshop No.7 was organized for 12 young people from the village of Pelči and surrounding area, introducing them to the art of photography. For information on ISSP 2014 workshops, see the next page. This planner features a small selection of the ISSP 2014 final works. The complete collection of participants’ projects is available on Vimeo: www.vimeo.com/issp/issp-2014-final-works and at www.issp.lv ISSP 2015 will take place on 1-9 August 2015 in the same location. Applications are usually announced at the end of March, open until early May.

Kuld朝ga Artists' Residence
Kuld朝ga
Kuldīga Kuldīga and its Arts Scene Located 150 km from the capital Riga, Kuldīga is an ancient town, and many visitors also believe it to be Latvia’s most charming. The magic of Kuldīga’s medieval architecture, wild nature, regular art and culture events provide an excellent opportunity to escape the haste and routine of the big city, and find a place of inspiration and creativity. Kuldīga has always attracted artists, filmmakers, designers and photographers as a location for their creative work. The presence of art and culture activities is appreciated by the Municipality as a crucial impulse for the town’s social and economic development and as a way of presenting Kuldiga to an international audience. The modern library with its Art House exhibition space, an open-air cinema, Children’s Art School, Kuldīga Artists’ Residence, and the International Summer School of Photography are just a few of the arts and culture initiatives supported by the local government. The Department of Creative Industries of the Art Academy of Latvia is also on its way, and will be established in Kuldīga by 2018.
Kuldīga Artists' Residence Artist-in-residence programs started in Kuldīga in 2013 with the mission of providing a support platform for projects in the visual arts and creative industries. Since its establishment in 2013, the Residence has already hosted about 50 international artists and over 100 art students for longer or shorter placements. The Residence works in close cooperation with the Art Academy of Latvia and international partners, hosting invited artists and regular workshops and masterclasses for students of artistic disciplines. Creative industry projects are also important for the Kuldīga Artists' Residence. Curated design events in the town aim at bringing together artists with local craftsmen or manufacturers to come up with unique design prototypes, combining a social design concept and hand-made quality. We welcome activities aimed at the exchange of experience and building up local skills and knowledge – please feel free to contact us. We look forward to cooperation with university level schools of art and creative industries in organizing workshops and field activities for students under the guidance of professional artists.
