Ensuring an inclusive society

At Janssen, we are actively committed to sustainable health for everyone. Our aim is to empower everyone who needs help to develop fully in society. That is why, together with our partners, we create opportunities for the most vulnerable groups close to home by promoting educational opportunities and day care, supporting informal carers and increasing access to healthcare. We also provide practical support for achieving those goals by offering our employees the opportunity to volunteer during working hours.

SOCIETY

VOLUNTEER IN SCHOOL ON A SATURDAY

Together with our partner TADA (ToekomstATALIERdelAvenir) from Brussels, we introduce socially vulnerable young people to the business world. Every Saturday, dozens of young people come to class voluntarily, to get to know the practice of all kinds of different professions in a non-scholastic way.

In our partnership with TADA, many scientists teach vulnerable young people every year.

For example, volunteers from Janssen show them how to perform laboratory research. This approach broadens the horizons of these young people, increases their enthusiasm and ambition and motivates them to enroll in and complete studies later.

GIRLS IN SCIENCE To boost the contribution of women in science and technology, we founded WiSTEM2D (Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Manufacturing and Design). This is a new, large-scale project in which NGOs, multinationals and knowledge institutions work together to interest girls in exact sciences from an early age. We are hoping to use this project to inspire at least 50,000 girls by the end of 2021! From this year on, Janssen is organizing STEM tours for children aged 10 to 14 from local schools on the Beerse campus.

SOCIETY

Social Grow Sessions is a coaching project for social entrepreneurs and social profit organizations that are active in informal care, talent development of vulnerable groups and that are committed to providing access to healthcare. During the sessions, we help the organizations to finetune their business model, we support them with specific bottlenecks within the sector and we put them in contact with stakeholders and potential partners. The sessions have a specific theme every year. The most recent edition is about informal care. SOCIALGROWSESSIONS.NET SAMEN WERKEN AAN JOUW SOCIAL IMPACT

ACCESS TO CARE FOR EVERYONE Together with Special Olympics, we are committed to improving the health of people with intellectual disabilities, and to increasing social awareness about this. We also actively encourage our employees to help out and participate in the various Special Olympics events. This can vary from volunteering during the games to engaging in a sporty duel!

This program is part of our general aim to help everyone who needs it to develop fully in society. Many of the initiatives we participate in as part of the Care Days are for the benefit of people with disabilities. Employees can sign up for a project or can propose a project or organization to support.
