RECTOR’S MESSAGE Dear Students, Since its establishment in 2010, IMU has always been a student-centered and civilization- and research-oriented university aiming to support its students both in their academic development and social lives and bringing together the wealth of different civilizations, where scientific progress and research have precedence over all and everyone feels a sense of belonging in an environment of free speech and intellectual debate. The M in IMU’s name represents Medeniyet, meaning Civilization in Turkish, which is the core concept of how we understand university. IMU is a human- and civilization-oriented, new-generation public university and for us, there are two elements that makes a university possible: students and academic staff. So at all levels of administration, we serve these two main elements, facilitating their activities and give them impetus in their quest for learning, teaching, production, and application. Here at IMU, we are working and will resolutely work toward creating a university that is free in intellectual debates to be held on a platform of liberty and responsibility; original with its generation of values, knowledge, and technology; respectful with equal and fair treatment toward different beliefs and ideas; universal with its interest toward its region and the globe; innovative and accessible by targeting individual peace and social welfare; and social with its student-oriented campus and understanding. Our university is in a continuous process of growth and renovation, and I firmly believe that it will soon become a significant center for knowledge production both on a national and international scale from its campus areas, academic staff, and research centers to its libraries, social facilities, and artistic endeavors. As a student-centered institution that trains students with the ability to meet the needs of the present with its world-class quality education, our University will continue to enhance its dynamism with newly-enrolled students. We wish to see you among us as a member of our Medeniyet Family in our journey towards attaining the highest benefits for humanity… Prof. M. İhsan KARAMAN Rector
