2 Art of Oceania Cruises

Recognized Worldwide for Excellence

For the new ships Marina and Riviera, Oceania Cruises founders Frank Del Rio and Bob Binder spent years amassing a world-class art collection, the scale of which has never before been seen at sea.  On the cover: Nodo 2, 2010, gold bronze sculpture on black marble base,

onboard Marina and Riviera

THE WORLD IS YOUR PALETTE A spectacular array of diverse and exotic destinations, the world is a palette of colours, brought together by the ships of Oceania Cruises in a collection of brilliantly crafted itineraries. As our ships are comfortably mid-size, they can call on a unique blend of destinations, from iconic cities to charming boutique ports, presenting each in its very best light. As you travel to the next vibrant port of call, relax onboard and savour the finest cuisine at sea, inspired by the renowned Master Chef Jacques PĂŠpin.

MASTERFUL DESIGN From the luxurious furnishings of Regatta and Nautica to the Grand Staircase adorned in Lalique crystal on Marina and Riviera, the onboard ambiance exudes style and artistry. When designing Marina and Riviera, the founders of Oceania Cruises knew that the art collection onboard must do justice to the artful elegance of the ships. Thus, around any given corner you can find a brilliant work by Picasso or a treasure from an exciting new artist. From the itineraries to the cuisine to the ships themselves, a voyage with Oceania Cruises is truly a masterpiece.

Oceania Cruises founders Frank Del Rio and Bob Binder give new meaning to the term “hands-on.” When building the line’s two new ships, Marina and Riviera, they were directly involved in every step of the process, from the initial design to the selection of furnishings to perhaps the grandest undertaking of them all: amassing the entire art collection for both ships. Marina and her sister ship, Riviera, were designed to eschew the common look of a cruise ship. Instead, Del Rio and Binder wanted to create the feel of a luxurious private home. When it came to the artwork, they hoped to assemble a collection such as that which a private collector might acquire over a period of decades. COMING SOON: The Oceania Cruises Collection This beautiful coffee table book features images, as well as artists’ biographies, of Oceania Cruises’ extensive art collection. Due to be released in August, The Oceania Cruises Collection will be available in shipboard boutiques and online on Amazon.com.

2

“We weren’t just looking for background music,” Del Rio says. “We wanted pieces that were bold and interesting, pieces that made a statement, provoked conversation and inspired emotion – evoking the same visceral reaction as the ships themselves.” Del Rio and Binder visited galleries, art shows and auctions across the globe. Some pieces were purchased directly from the artists, and several pieces were commissioned from artists as well. The resulting collection is a diverse assortment of masterpieces from renowned names like Picasso and Miró as well as gems from emerging artists such as Li Dominguez Fong and Carlos Luna. Spanning eras and genres, the works represent an international array of artistic talent, from the 19th century nautical art of Thomas Buttersworth to the modern pop art of Robert Mars. The scale of the collection has never before been seen at sea. At any given moment onboard the ships, guests can be found gazing at a sculpture or discussing the merits of a painting. Binder and Del Rio clearly achieved their goal of creating a collection that would evoke strong reactions and generate conversation. They also succeeded in creating an utterly unique experience: cruises that allow guests to visit a worldclass museum without ever disembarking the ship.

Although this is not included within the listed price, Oceania Cruises can offer assistance with hotel reservations. All charges related to hotel stays, including hotel fares and taxes, meals, transfers, phone charges and incidentals will be at the guests’ own expense. ‘Air Deviation’ requests can only be processed once the cruise booking is under deposit. Any pre-flight arrangements, such as seat assignments, frequent flyer programmes, wheelchair requests, oxygen or special meal requests must be made by the guest directly with the airlines based on their policies and procedures. Oceania Cruises cannot confirm any special airline requests unless otherwise specified. Due to the special nature of fares used, frequent flyer or past traveller discounts might not apply to air tickets issued by Oceania Cruises. These special requests and services should be arranged by you or your Travel Agent directly with the airlines.

Taste the finest cuisine at sea Boldly claiming to serve “the finest cuisine at sea” might seem to be an overstatement. But we wouldn’t make such an immodest assertion if not for the tremendous contribution of the legendary Master Chef Jacques Pépin. As our Executive Culinary Director, he inspires our chefs to perform feats of gastronomic wizardry. Memorable dining begins with open-seating, as it allows you to dine when you are ready and with whomever you choose. Regardless of which of our restaurants you select, there are no additional dining charges.

“ Food, for me, is inseparable from sharing. There is no great meal unless it is shared with family or friends.”

Continental cuisine, savoury Canyon Ranch® selections and Jacques Pépin’s signature dishes are served in an elegant ambiance inspired by Europe’s five-star hotel restaurants.

With all the elements of a classic steakhouse, from filet mignon to New York strip, Polo Grill also has equally appealing options for seafood lovers, such as whole Maine lobster.

Enjoy family recipes handed down through generations. Presented on elegant Versace china, each dish is a masterpiece that exemplifies the essence of Tuscany.

Comfortable and eclectic, the ambiance is pure French, as is the wonderfully embraceable cuisine. Luscious aromas waft from the gleaming show rotisserie, where chicken, duck, pork, rib and veal roasts slowly turn. Each dish is a classic, ingeniously interpreted by Master Chef Pépin.

With a nod to feng shui, Red Ginger radiates harmony and tranquillity. The interior simply glows with ebony woods, a dramatic waterfall wall and striking, modern Asian artworks. Red Ginger’s chefs have created contemporary interpretations of Asian classics. In Red Ginger, the culinary pleasures are as striking as the visual ones.

Designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Robinson Crusoe Island is home to the Magellanic penguin, Juan Fernandez fur seal and the critically endangered Juan Fernandez firecrown hummingbird Gain insight into the culture and history of the Rapa Nui, inhabitants of Easter Island for 1,700 years Admire the ancient Polynesian petroglyphs of Down Rope, a cliff on an isolated sandy beach near Adamstown Enjoy an up-close look at Bora Bora’s world-famous marine life from the comfort of a glass-bottomed boat

South Pacific T H E E X O T I C A N D T H E E XT R A O R D I N A R Y Rarely do you have the chance to experience a unique blend of mystery, natural wonders and pure bliss. The legend of castaway Alexander Selkirk, who was marooned in 1704 for four years on what is now Robinson Crusoe Island, became the inspiration for the classic Daniel Defoe novel. On remote Easter Island, the giant stone statues with unwavering expressions are a testament to a civilization that has long been lost to history. The voice of Fletcher Christian of Mutiny on the Bounty fame still echoes in Adamstown, while stunning lagoons, soaring peaks and the seafaring bravado of the ancient Polynesians all come together in Bora Bora, Fakarava and Papeete.
